Hey there! I really appreciated your review and your playing is top notch. I just have a question as someone new to recording. When you're recording and playing your music back, are you listening to your bass through monitors or through a bass amp? I'm trying to decide if I should use my bass amp cab as my monitor or if I should invest in some KRK or Yamaha monitors to listen and do light practice with...I sincerely appreciate any advice. Thanks!
@eggobass When you record you're always listening back through monitors. I have a sub in my system so the bass is well taken care of. I doubt that a bass amp would suffice as a monitor because many of the higher frequencies that you need to hear won't be there (as a bass guitar doesn't really need anything in the 5-10khz range). Depends on your budget but those cheap KRKs will do the trick for now. I like Dynaudio BM15A's but I don't know what your budget is. Enjoy :)
@himynameisjayme Thanks so much for the response, I really appreciate it. If I could get two of those Dynaudio's for the price of one then I'd be set, but that's not realistic. Perhaps it's best for me to save up a bit for something really great (like those) instead of having to re-sell some crappy KRK's after a year. May I ask what sub you are using with it? My budget right now is about 2k inclusive. Thanks so much!!!
Great demo. I've owned the REDDI for a few years now. It adds a sizzle around 2k which is very subtle. If your a fan of solid state sounds you might not love this. Like Jayme said, solid state electronics react a bit faster. The API is giving this demonstration its badass compression and mids. APIs are magical. I always reach for my REDDI if I know I won't be using a bass amp as a source.
Ya, YouTube does this funky bit rate compression thing to the low end. I like using it in combination with a solid state amp. Call up Peter at A Designs and see how you can try one for yourself.
I just listened to your video over very high quality headphones and found the difference between the two sources extremely subtle. Do you know if this is because of the signal processing endemic to YouTube?
@himynameisjayme Have you ever run a guitar through it before. I'm wondering how it would sound as a front end when using my eleven rack processor (from Avid). Since it's tube, I'd think it add a little character. Just curious if you've used it for anything else other than bass. Thanks man.
That low end is sick. I can hear the difference with my dynaudio monitors and they're just 6.5 cones!
How is it on vocals?

I saw this from the Dylan Dresdow interview. The Reddi makes my molars rattle deeper.

I'm glad someone posted this...it might be fine for recording, I kinda doubt I would purchase this for live?

@martyman5000 it's actually great for live, especially when you're not using an amp and just going DI.

@martyman5000 It's my DI of choice when I play without an amp. I haven't found a DI to give me the character of an amp besides this one.

@jaycroft97 I've never run a guitar through it, but I'll give it a try and let you know what I think... you never know!
