It DID have good music. Maybe some people were just too stupid to know how to look for it. Most of the good music wasn't on the top 100 lists. A lot of the songs I listened to in the 2000s were from foreign countries. My favorite songs from the 2000s aren't on any of the lists. I'm proud I had good music as a teen because I knew how to defy the mainstream. I even created my own fashion. I also watched great movies that hardly got any attention in the mainstream media.

I personally think hipsters are pretentious douche bags with no taste at all (mainly because they have no personal thoughts, therefore have no ability to have taste) but one could argue that the mainstream kid and the hipster kid are two sides of the same coin.
