  • love the old stuff this is true talent!!!!

  • good singer never heard him before

  • One of them died with patsy..

  • @martinmary555 Both Hawkshaw Hawkins and Cowboy Copas died withy Patsy.

  • I love real country music like this! It's a shame that the radio stations won't play it anymore because there is still a large audience for it. Thank god for satellite radio. Check out my channel and let me know what you think.

  • It's a shame his life and career was cut short because I think he could have given Hank Sr a run for his money.

  • I never heard of this guy before Youtube. I'm a Hank Sr. fan but I'll have to say this guy is awesome!!! Thanks for sharing.

  • man i love this tune

  • Excellent video clip! Great performance by one the MOST UNDER RATED of all.

Hawkshaw had a superb voice and talent. And married to Jean Shepard...(the greatest female vocalist ever). Everyone should check out their work, you won't be disappointed. And yes, Jean was widowed by that plane crash with Patsy Cline and Cowboy Copas. (March '63).

  • My Aunt Joanne Rucker ( singer/ guitarist) sang on a regular show at WTND in Orangeburg, SC (years 1945-1950..she & Hawk entertained on the air the day of his show in Irmo, SC. They exchanged guitars and had a great time..she opened for him that night at the football stadium from a flat trailor as was common in the old days. I have her guitar now.. two great musicians played it for sure.

  • Wow, great to hear this song - which was written by the late Tennessee Ernie Ford - sung by the great Hawkshaw Hawkins.

  • I think he died with Patsy Cline!!! martinmary555 catch my video

  • Hawkshaw is my 2nd generation cousin, my moms first cousin. We loved him so very much. My family sings and plays guitars carrying on the family tradition...Brandy

  • This is country music....love it!!

  • I remember when we lost Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas and Patsy Cline in the same plane crash.

  • @richardcwood yep that was country's "Day the Music Died"

  • the hawk was the man. great version

  • I'll second that on the steel solo. This is real country music here.

  • nice Quad

  • Jack "Curly Evans's" steel break is awesome.

  • Growing up in Washington, DC in the 50s, I used to listen to him late a night from WWVA in Wheeling, West Virginia. After about 6 PM, there was no other country music on the radio except WWVA.

  • Hawk was born and raised on Camp Creek Road, just south of Huntington, WV. He was friends with my Grandpa.

  • He has them all beat!!When he sang a song, it came from deep inside, and you could feel his music. It's so sad he's gone.

  • Great stuff! Not too familiar with Hawk except knowing he died in the plane crash with Patsy Cline. I love Rockabilly and this is some of the best I've heard! To Hawk's daughter Marlene, I just want to say hi and I hope you are doing well.

  • I met Hawk YEARS ago in Wheeling at the Jamboree; real gentleman, I must have been all of 10 years of age.

  • Hawk's wife was Jean Shepard,One of my favorite country singers ever.

  • @jdj32433 Daddy and Jean married in 1960. He was first married to Reva Barbour, also from Huntington, WV. They were married for 18 years.

  • Hawk was from Camp Creek Road - 8 miles south of Huntington,WV

  • He was agreat singer.

Also recorded on King Records in cininatti.

WE NEED MORE KING RECORDS MUSICIANS ON YOUTUBE like

    Delmore Brothers

    Wayne Raney

    Cowboy Copas

    Hawkshaw Hawkins

    Jimmie Osborne

    Moon Mullican

    and more!

  • Don't forget the York Brothers. They recorded several sides for King in the 40's---good stuff!!

  • Hawk was a gteat singer, and guy. He will be missed forever. Sweet Thing

  • Great stuff! Much better version than Tennessee Ernie Ford. Thx a lot for this!

  • He was great. Didnt Hank Snow also record this song?

  • Hawkshaw Was a Awesome Entertainer, and singer, and so often people forget that not just Pasty Cline was killed that day. Cowboy Copas was a great Singer also.

  • Yes, sadly Cowboy evaded the Hangman's Boogie, just to find it in a plane crash..terible, we have all lost...

  • I just love to listen to Hawk,,,, Now today they say Eddie Arnold has died. My kind of Country Music is fast losing its founders.

I make sure i grab everything from the real Country Singers i can. Because thsi stuff they try to pass off as Country I don't want any part of.

  • This is a great video of hawkshaw, he was a great singer. So bad we had to lose him like we did.
