I'm guessing they know French but they don't speak it among themselves. Unless they just happened to be nervous, they didn't seem to be very fluent when I heard them speak it, except maybe for Chiren's mom.

But I guess they start learning French early in Belgium, so they probably all know it at least a little. According to the French Wikipedia, Dutch is the official language in Antwerp, but French is spoken in some neighbourhoods (and it is one of the country's three official languages).
