If you took the Garand action and put it in a psudo-M16 body (Raised sights, stock aligned to barrel, lightweight composite furniture, etc) I'm certain you would have a weapon close to perfection.
Small mistake! the Garand was not the first SLR given to infantry. Rather, it is was the first general issue SLR (rifle issued to the majority of troops). As early as 1900, there were select regiments of troops armed with SLRs but they were ceremonial as their weapons were too fragile for field use. The real important feature of the Garand is that it is the first reliable combat SLR.
I have a Mosin Nagant, German Mauser K98, M1 Carbine, and M1 Garand. The M1 Garand is superior to all of them. The 30-06 is a better bullet than the 8mm. The M1 carbine with a 30 round magizine is a joy to shoot and a good weapon at a short distance; in my opinion 200 meters or less. So, I would choose the M1 carbine for shorter distance targets and the M1 Garand for anything over 200 meters. I can hit man sized targers at 500 meters with my Garand all day long.
Errrr... No, the first model SVT-38 was designed in taken in massprodustion in 1939, and the first prototype was made in the early 1930´s. German G41 didnt have anything same as the SVTs And it was designed in 1941, years after the SVTs. But the German G43 DID have a lot in common with the SVT series, its gas system was copyed from SVT.
Well I also think that Garand was better, but cant really call Tokarevs poor, in trained hands they were decent weapons. And they were issued to the Red Army in vast numbers way before Garand, and the AVS-36 was in use years before WWII.
First semi-automatic rifle given to infantry in the world? What about Soviet Simonov AVS-36 and Tokarev SVT-38? But still a great rifle, I´m getting one in a few weeks :)
Hey Comrad Thokarev , the first semi Auto file was designed by the french in WW1 , but although very intresting rifle , like the tokarev40, both guns were poor example semi auto guns
its the m1 i was reading a book about a guy who wnt into the marines that said that when he passed sniper school he got an m1 with a scope calles the m1-e8
Thanks so much! In reality, this was done rather quickly but seeing the end result..hell, I think next time around I'm going to actually make something really educational.

.30 is one of the most common rifle calibers to date. It's a big chunk of lead that works.

i thought it shot a 30-06 not a .30 thats the m1 carbine caliber
warmachine4799 2 years ago 3
both cartridges fire a 30 caliber bullet.
7.62x33mm = .30 carbine
7.62 x 63 mm = 30-06
Also .30 caliber.
7.62x54mmR (R for rimmed) = Russian Mosin cartridge
7.62x51mm = .308 NATO
7.62x39mm = Kalashnikov bullet.

And just to make it clear, I have both Garand and SVT-40, Garand is more accurate and reliable than the SVT, but as I said SVT is a decent rifle.
