  • that was so cool

  • It does exist. It was part of a TV programme about Bearsville records and I also remember Foghat being on it. I saw this in @ 1975 or 76 in the UK on the BBC. It was fantastic. I'm pretty sure this is the show. I tried to trade it with my audio master tapes of the 2 Utopia Knebworth shows they did with Led Zeppelin with a collector in the US, but he was having none of it.

  • Is there any footage that you know of showing the drum solo with the water fountain trigger devices.Singring gave the whole band a chance to show off their individual creativity.Utopia(in all of it's incarnations) has been and wiill always be my favorite band .

  • Would you have or know anything on Willie's solo and waterfall and/or Kasim's wind solo. Someone told me about it.. so I was wondering if there was a video on it.. Thanks, Rose

  • Tap on Todd!

  • I never thought in my entire life I would see this. Thanks for the upload TRFan

  • Todd's "guitar God" phase. This is what I loved most about Todd, but more and more it seems to have gone the way of the Laserdisc.

  • Don't forget

  • here's the rockingest.,..funkiest....soulfulest.....liberating ..brainiac.....lyricist...and human being on the planet !

  • Absolutely amazing! He loves to entertain the audience, wish there were more Todd

    Rundgren's in the world, he's a genius!

  • Saw this show at the old Civic Center in Philly in 76. Still the best concert I've seen to this day!

  • what a wonderful rock extravanganza. great solo from Todd - as always!

  • That might just be the bravest act I've ever seen performed on stage by a rock musician. climbing that skinny staircase is scary-looking enough, but while playing guitar??? Rundgren must have been out of his mind.

  • I saw the Ra tour at Radio City Music Hall in NYC in the 70's ! Todd was AMAZING and still is ! The glass guitar , NEVER saw a better performance !

  • is the middle cut off or something?

  • @InvaderOfYourHeart This is exactly as it was on the tape that I got from the record company.

  • I can remember being at this concert, and I loved the Singring then, and still do,

as seen on this video.....Todd is the Man!....I so respect his abilities, musically, and

also in production and song writing....He is, and always will be an inspiration in

my musical endeavors.......Way "Ahead" of his Time...always! :)

  • I saw this live at Radio City Music Hall and was completely blown away. I've seen Todd do outdoor gigs here in NYC (for those who remember the Schaeffer Music Festivals $2.50 a ticket). But, the Ra tour was his best. I wish Singring wasn't broken up here on YouTube. It takes away from the entire experience. Todd is a genius.

  • Thanks for posting..I remember this tour 1975, certainly he isn't afraid of heights, and he was amazing on the guitar!

  • My dad just showed this to me, damn.

  • @lesaubergines Amazing, isn't it?

  • ok did he have a deathwish at the time came up with this concept? I know my ass would've fallen right off that thing and I would've landed head first blood everywhrere. The end.

  • The vanity of worldly power!

  • Yeah, he is one of these guys who clearly influenced people who were much more successful. That guitar sound was very much ripped by Eddie Van Halen, with its heavy use of the then-new Eventide Harmonizer. I think what stopped Todd from being really huge was a brilliant creativity married to an unremarkable baritone voice, such that the brilliant songs often were brought to life more so by other performers. One sees a lot of "This is Spinal Tap" in this too. It is a self-parody to be sure.

  • Really?

You think his voice is "unremarkable"? I mean, I can show you any number of interviews with other singers, like Hall & Oates, who consistently praise Todd's voice.

As for the Spinal Tap thing, Harry Shearer is a big Todd fan, and this tour has been cited, by him, as an inspiration for some bits of that movie.

Honestly, Todd's relative lack of commercial success is usually his own fault. If he wanted to crank out easy pop tunes all day long, he could have had Elton John's career.

  • I agree with you, toddrundgrenfan -- Todd had one of the best, most flexible voices in pop music, with a huge range, a killer falsetto that he could pull out of nowhere, artistic phrasing, great breath control, AND when he felt like it, he could scream like nobody's business. Of course, the screaming wrecked his voice and he now sounds like a "baritone" because he lost his high notes. But he still sings great.

And your reasoning re: his relative lack of commercial success is accurate.

  • @caraphyllis I just saw him performing "A Wizard/A True Star" a couple of months ago and his voice is incredibly strong. Search AWATS and Akron and you'll see just how strong his voice remains.

  • Wow, you saw AWATS. I'm jealous. You're right -- he still sounds strong. His last CD Arena is incredibly strong, and his New Cars stuff too. I just don't hear the falsetto anymore, I'll listen to those AWATS/Akron clips you mention.

  • There will be a mini-tour (6 shows) this fall where Todd and a large band will be performing two of his classic albums IN FULL!

    "Todd" and "Healing".

    It will be amazing.

  • @toddrundgrenfan - do you know in what cities he'll be playing this fall?

  • They have not been announced yet, other than Akron, OH on Labor Day. In all likelihood, they will be in the Midwest and East coast.

  • wait, AND TODD? I thought it was just Healing!

Oh man, this is one not to miss.

  • Probably Healing in full, a break, then Todd in full.

  • @utopianmindset: I'll be at the Sept. 11 "Todd-Healing" show in Indy. I caught the AWATS show on Sept. 6, 09 in Akron ... awesome, awesome, awesome. Cannot WAIT for my second trip back!

  • AWESOME!!!

    Thanks for posting!

  • He is really awesome but a bit "stupid risking his arms, fingers and life" doing this little ditty. I can't play guitar like this, but I am alive. : -))))) Truly exciteing for the show, An OMG moment. : -))))

  • Man's got guts.

  • ...which he was lucky didn't get spilled all over the stage.

  • Or Nuts???? : -))))))))) I wan't sure which was wow-ing me the Guitar or the fright I got watching him do this stunt. Truly Brave but I still think "Stupid." : -)))))) Said lovingly of course : -)))))

  • on a "classic albums" video about Bat Out of Hell, when they introduce Todd, who produced this masterpiece, there is a 10 second clip of high quality RA stage with Todd's glass guitar gleaming atop the apex. There is hope this whole vid is somewhere?

  • I saw this concert in Tulsa. OK.(1977) It was a benefit concert to save the "Old Lady on Grady " Opera House. We sat front center on the balcony and felt like we could touch the stage. One of THE most awesome concert experiences I can remember. Wish someone had a copy of the Drum Solo with the water jets circling the Drummer. The Back flip was breathtaking. thanks to Rundgrenfan for posting.

  • This is one of my favs. Somewhere the full video exists. I wish more people would stop being so selfish with Todd Rundgen's utopia videos and let the world see how fantastic these performances were.

  • This was off an official Warner Brothers VHS tape. But as Todd's no longer on one of their labels, they don't have any interest in making any of this footage available. So I'm sure it's sitting on some shelf on some film storage facility.

  • hey imharpo

where you at the uptown back in 1977 to see this todd and utopia spectacle?

    peace,

    rich

  • Lets see.... Hmmmm.... I wish I was. I don't remember much about what I did during the 70's, but I know I wasnt there. It's a great clip though. We need more.

  • Hey Kidderminsterbro, The Uptown in Chicago ~ 1977! Was that you who let me take toke? ? ? Thanks dude !

  • hey crabshaw

    guilty as charged

  • I'm in total agreement...best performance rock I have ever seen. State Theater in Minneapolis. Each musician had their spot center stage...drum solo with water fountains was visually stunning, Roger fighting the fire breathing dragon, and Kasim bass solo reverberated the entire house. I would imagine someone in Todd's camp has the entire show on video. I'd buy a DVD if they released it.

  • AJJJAJAJAJ ta re locooo!!!

  • Some where, there has got to be video, at least more complete vid than this (which is great nonetheless) incorporating Todd's complete pyramid segment. Where is it cliphounds??? go fetch!!

  • I saw this concert back in 1977 when Todd and Utopia headlined New Years eve at the Richfield Coliseum in Cleveland. It was freakin AWESOME!!!

  • saw this in indy, dont remember when . really good.

  • I saw this show @ The Calderone Theater - Hempstead NY - amazing show Todd/W Utopia pulling out all the stops.

  • Saw the 'Ra' show without the pyramid in 76 and then the 'Oops' streetwear/'Ra' show in 77 with Starcastle opening in Utica NY and to this day...there will never be a more entertaining and truely fascinating show than this .Second row and up against the fence for this one.Just jaw-droppin' awesome. The musicianship between them, the theatrics, nothing will ever compare. The closest would be The Tubes/Utopia show in 84 in Utica for 'Love Bomb' the Tubes went crazy.Fan since '70,I'm 45 now & ToddIsGod

  • I saw a show on the ' 77 tour and got to meet Todd and shake his hand after the show outside the backstage door of the venue ( FOX Theatre in St. Louis ) . I gave kudos to him on a job well done and he patted me on the shoulder and said " Thanx man, we appreciate that, really, we do ". What a nice and humble guy that Todd is. If you notice in this video he drops down with only one arm in the harness ( ouch ) . When I saw him do it they lowered the guitar first, then he dropped using both arms.

  • i saw this at the Santa Monica Civic auditorium...what a great show

  • i saw in 1977 in cleveland..

  • how did he not blow his shoulder out at the end

of the bit ?? ... good god

great stuff though man ..wonderful talent

  • got to see todd and utopia at the uptown theatre in chicago march 18,1977. i was sitting in the front row of the balcony on the left side. i can still remember feeling the heat from the giant flashpots that would soar 25 feet in the air.

    thanks for posting this toddrundgrenfan.

    peace,

    rich

  • I saw this concert at the Palladium NYC in 1977.

  • So DId my then girl friend and now wife

We cauld never forget this show!

    those were the daze....

  • that is insane but pretty sweet too! wish i would have been alive back then to see it in person.

  • where is the rest of this video? This is part of their stage production not performed on the Singring television appearance.

  • As I said in the text, this is the only bit of this video I have. It was "B-Roll" on a videotape distributed by Warner Brothers. As near as I can tell, this footage was shot by the BBC for a profile of Todd. So either the whole show exists on a shelf somewhere or (more likely) this is the only footage they shot. It was shot on film, and that was a LOT more expensive to shoot than video. Doing an entire concert was a major expense, and if you just need a bit of colorful footage, shoot just that.

  • I am taking my teenage sons to see Todd's Arena show in NYC next month. I showed the Kasim and Todd solos from these videos just to give them a taste of what they are in (sans pyramid climbing, of course). Should be an interesting night out.

  • I love todd's music, but this is almost sorta spinal tapish. if you know what i mean?

  • Harry Shearer of Spinal Tap is a bit Todd fan, and I've always suspected that he based some of the movie on this stage show. So yeah, there is a connection...just the other way than you might think.

  • I was also at the Auditorium show in Chicago in 1977. I had never seen anything like this concert before ever... it was life changing for me at the time. When he finally found the "glass" guitar (formed ice at that show...) and he smashed it, we were blown away. Sounds silly now, but you have to think of the time.

  • I was wondering how he was gonna get down from the apex.... he's a braver man than me to climb those steps too...

  • sound sucks!!!xD

  • I love Todd, but this is right out of Spinal Tap.

  • Actually, it's the other way around. Harry Shearer is a big Todd fan, and some of the jokes about stage props were inspired by this tour.

  • NO!! The other way 'round!!!! Who thought Spinal Tap in the SEVENTIES????

  • My first Utopia show was the Auditorium th. in Chicago 1977. I thought the first half was cool, but I was totally blown away by the RA set. The show is available on Nippon Crown "OOP's Wrong Planet tour" I am the teenager saying "BRAVO! BRAVO!" The show was magical. I wish we could get some video of the RA tour. The pyramid set was incredible.

I would settle for some quality soundboard of the RA and/or OOP's show. Hint hint "Chris Anderson" Free the spirit of Harmony!!!!!

  • Well, I saw them in 77 when they toured The Rha Album which this video is part of. It's a shame you can't get the entire show,'cause it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen.Starcastle was supposed to open but cancelled,so Todd came out w/ Utopia in street clothes and did a Todd's greatest hits w/a black curtain behind them. Then a movie screen came down,a trippy movie for 10 minutes then the curtain went up, and they did the album. It was great. Toledo, Ohio Sports Arena.ya had 2 be there

  • Didnt the Mournful Dead do this?

  • it was not that bad

  • Well, obviously you've never seen ME onstage. Makes Todd look like Houdini.

  • They sure don't do shows like that anymore. default funny post about the drill.

  • Sheeze, I fall off my ladder just holding a drill, Todd is balanced, thats for sure.

  • The Stage is the cover of "Opps wrong Planet" Nice, trapped in a world that he never made, a world that he never made. ROCKS

  • Hi Guys, Many thanks for this - is there more? I saw this in the late 70s (before I had a VCR) on the Old Grey Whistle Test BBC. The concert featured the whole of RA, with this as the finale. I've been searching for it since that time.

  • OLD BRO and the Ancestors says turn back the hands of time todd bring back UTOPIA and the bitchen pyramid right up there with Rockmannoff Carso Pagginni a synthezied off shoot support TODD 2008 and crew

  • I saw Todd do this many moons ago. He was doing a summer tour with (fairly new) Utopia. He had the magic crystal guitar, made of ice, which he nightly destroyed by throwing it to the stage and then jumping on it. I saw him jump, land on slippery ice, and land on his rump. Love that guitar work! When he's not being too dark/angry (composers have to brood) he's pretty wonderful.

    Hey, .

  • great stage prop! i like how the apex of the pyramid is right in todd's crotch

  • OHMYGOD, the riff he's playing in the intro is from "A Treatise on Cosmic Fire" prior to the "Singring" bit. Awesome.

  • saw him @ PSU on this tour. It was "Homecoming"; Starcastle opened; Utopia did, like, 4 encores. And it was cooler still because, the story at the time was that Todd had been thrown out of the PSU Music curiculercer(sic) for having no talent. A great memory!

  • I knew he was a brilliant musician & producer but I never realised he had such a good head for heights - really good - thanks for posting.

  • Saw Todd do this live at Radio City Music Hall NYC it had to be way back in the early 70's AWESOME ! He is beyond compare !

  • This album rocked as did oop's wrong planet

  • yea he went to my high school, actually my homeroom 2

  • BonzoFreak48, I'm studying up on Todd. Just reading "A Dream Goes on Forever" Part 1. Can you tell me anything interesting about Todd from the time when you knew him in high school?

    Many thanks!

  • I still after all of these years..never miss a Todd show..never a dull moment :)

  • why did the solo end so abruptly?

     Did he die?

  • Nope, still very much alive. This is from an "Electronic Press Kit"...video footage sent out to TV stations in hopes that it will be used as a feature story. I put this footage up from a tour that should have yielded a concert film, but supposedly no full show was ever filmed.

  • Just kidding.

I feel that people wielding film cameras should not be allow to film anything other than what the guitarist's playing during a solo. No singer's looking off stage, or obscure shots from behind the drum kit... and no turning off untill the end. thank you

  • Saw the RA show at The FABULOUS FOX THEATER in Atlanta. The frozen guitar that was smashed added to the PYRAMID FALL..He was also at the AGORA BALLROOM across the street.TODD<PLEASE DO IT AGAIN!!!!

  • Todd's nearly 60. I doubt he's up to doing any more pyramid diving anytime soon.

  • I want him to return with the original UTOPIA crew for a tour.I saw The New Cars in Atlanta in Sept 06,great show! But they did not include us this fall.HE IS GREAT!!!

  • I also saw this concert at the Fox theater in Atlanta Ga. 1977 one of the greatest shows ever. Todd came through Atlanta with his tour's regularly,I saw him a lot at Alex Cooleys Electric Ballroom before it became the Agora.

  • Saw this show in 1977 at Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio. Third row. Great show. Great memories. Two years later, I caught Utopia at Legend Valley in central Ohio. Roadmaster, Cheap Trick and the Cars opened. Talk about your ultimate late 1970s show.

  • Still looking for video of the rest of the solo from atop the pyramid. That was sure a great show!

  • seen that show twice alpine valley and madison Wi. Alpine was the best sho for brad ever!

  • we need this full concert.

  • My first Todd show was the Utopia RA performance at Winterland in SF in '77. I've seen many dozens since then but I always looked back at the RA show as the peak. Some of Utopia's shows at the Old Waldordf in SF in '79 were pretty epic and in those days Todd could blow the room away with a solo show. I heard that his next album is going to be a return to arena rock...

  • That GUITAR ×--þ spells a four letter word.

    No points for guessing whot.

  • Crazy Lady Blue..(sigh)

  • They did a punk rock type thing the first part of the show wearing blue jeans, tennis shoes and a white t-shirts.The second part of the show they were all wearing flowing robes. The show was quite the spectacle.

  • Actually, they toured "Ra" twice. The first was a full concert devoted to it, the second was the

punk" opening with songs from "Opps, Wrong Planet", followed by an shortened "Ra" show.

  • Saw Utopia on this tour at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis.Great show!!Met all the members outside the backstage door. They were all great to the fans.Todd was exceptionally gracious. What a guy that Runt.

  • JC how did he not kill himself at the end

or tear that shoulder joint apart. good god

  • He did this on every date on the tour!

  • Pure genius! This is as cool as much as it is comedy. I love TR. He's one of my many influences.

  • I think RA is one exceptional piece of work.

  • difficult up to upstairs hahaha....I can`t to do this--.....tengo una entrada firmada por Todd, cuando vino a Madrid.estuve en su camerino comiedo pizza, jajajaja Santy

  • I couldn't climb up that fuckin thing without falling on my head at the halfway point. lol

  • my all time fave todd tune

    brilliant

  • I saw this tour w/my little bro and he became a giant Todd freak like me

  • Dangerous shite Toddy.

    No foolin'till "Hermit"Todd ruled.

He could'nt keep it up though ,producing every shite artiste that came up with the"bread" .tanx anyway .

  • Wanted to add...still got respect for

    the (Real)man .

  • I really like Todd's early stuff-his more soulful ballads and Philadelphia-esque sound, but this shit...this is laughable...70's cliched stadium rock. Man, WTF is he trying to prove.

TR was a great talent who went off in different directions, took a lot of risks (good), and in most of them, failed (bad). My post mortem of his career: he should have stuck to his singer/songwriter stuff...he could only have gotten better. Utopia? Blah!

  • What you don't appreciate is the zeitgeist. You're looking BACK at this and laughing. If you'd been there back then you'd have loved it. The 80s and 90s and 00s hadn't happened yet so you have no reference point. Duh!

  • (Sorry, misread your comment. You were there for the early stuff. Doh! Anyhow, I like it all. Times change, but his talent and creativity remain.)

  • Oops!! Todd doesn't play every instrument on "Ra", but I did see his "Ra" tour go thru Atlanta, GA March 25th, 1977, and his pyramid segment was absolutely breathtaking!!

  • hey tubemonkey or whatever...havent you ever had one of those days when you just said f-ck it???

  • Caught the "RA" tour at World Series of Rock, Cleveland Muni Stadium, summer, '77.Aerosmith was s'posed to headline, had an acident, Utopia was moved up to lead spot. Partial show, no pyramid, no "Singring", but STILL fantastic!

  • This funny and quintessential 1970's concert stuff. Endless noodling on the guitar, pyrotechnics, a lot of sound....heck, I thought this was Ace Frehley from KISS for second playing his solo during his signature song Shock Me......

  • I also saw this back in 75 and saw Todd a couple years ago, to were he couldnt hardly speak, and when he did, couldnt understand a goddam word. At over 30 a ticket, screw him. What a waste, poeple were going nuts, wanting thier money back. The show sucked, Todd sucked, the band sucked. WILL never spend any money on this loser again. You know, folks, he flat out sucked!! Sober up for fans that pay GD good money to see thier childhood hero. Hero, NO MORE!!

  • My general rule is: NEVER see Todd solo anymore. See him only when there are other musicians on the stage with him who will get on his case if he doesn't perform. The "Power Trio" tour was amazing, as was the "Liars" tour. But Todd solo with a guitar just phones in in these days - and it's an embarrassing, drunken phone call.

  • Saw this tour several times. Got stoned w/ TR just before the show. As the band went on he shouted to his road manager "get him a seat now!". We both ran into the Armadillo World Headquarters from opposite sides of the venue. They kicked ass. Have heard nearly all footage of the tour was destroyed in a fire years ago and am thrilled to see this segment. This highlight is nearly impossible to convey if you weren't there.

  • 30 years on and this is still in my top 5 concerts. My brother & I were on the second row balcony and were just about eye level with the two strobes that flashed from behind Todd through the majority of this solo You can see them on this video and perhaps there were some issues with the filming when they came on. That may be why it cuts to the end. No one has mentioned the fountains during the drum solo, wind/fog during the bass solo & the insane amount of flashpots during the keyboard solo.

  • There's also a chinese dragon which appears in the keyboard solo, isn't there?

  • I believe so. It was many, many years. Roger had a laser mounted on the "Powell Probe", a custom built, pre-MIDI, keyboard. He battled the dragon with it.

To paraphrase a much earlier Todd song "It may be stupid, but it sure was fun".

  • How about the amazing lasers coming out of the Sphinx head throughout the show.

  • Wow I thought Superman was cool but even HE couldn't do what this talented musician can.

  • Oops, that would be Ankh, not Ahnk. For some reason that word is quite the bugger for me. ;]

  • Well, technically it came from UTOPIA's "RA" album. :]

Todd plays all of the intruments in his solo albums, but this was obviously joint with the other members of Utopia. (Kasim Sulton, John "Willie" Wilcox, and Roger Powell) Utopia is Todd's brainchild but all four members provided for the album, ESPECIALLY Singring and the Glass Guitar. Man I wish I was alive to see this concert, my dad did though! And I wish I could hold Todd's custom Veleno Ahnk guitar...amazing.

  • I saw this concert tour (the "Ra" album) years ago, and to this day it is my favorite performance. Todd was at the apex of the pyramid, lasers beams shooting off the reflection of his chrome-edged guitar...

  • now thats a real preformance!

  • it sure would be great to see all the surviving video of this tour...

  • You know what really takes balls, look at weird-all on a swing pole, on circus of the stars (late 80s, early 90s). Weird Al is insane.. But I'm sure Todd was nervous up there..

  • Perhaps my favorite rundgren/utopia tune. BRILLIANT !

  • i'm rediscovering him again, turning on my young friends to Todd...what a vocal range he has!

  • Yes I would love to see the whole thing as well. It was shown once on The Old Grey Whistle test many moons ago. Magic

  • I have a vhs of it. If I can get it put on dvd, I'll post it. It's from the "Ra" tour which was fantastic. The only thing I've seen that was as good was "The Wall" by Pnk Floyd, and "O" by Cirque du Soiles...I haven't seen"Love" yet.

  • Please please me oh yeah... Put it out here so I can see it

  • GOOD GOD! Somebody PLEASE find the full version of this concert. I'll pay 50 bucks for a DVD easily.

  • I saw this show in Norman Oklahoma..1977 I believe..and got to meet Todd backstage afterwards..a friend had made a blown glass guitar for Todd..one of those great memories..thanks for putting on this clip!!

  • Hey read my reply to toddrundgrenfan. Sounds like you and I saw the same tour. I can't remember if they played in Norman a few days before or after Dallas but definitely same tour. What a phenominal performance by ALL 4 Great musicians! I played in a band in Dallas back then. We played in Norman Tulsa and Ok city as well. Hell, you may have seen me play YOU CRIED WOLF {:>0} if you went bar-hopping back then!! good memories

  • Hey! This looks like Spinal Tap!

  • Harry Shearer (Derek Smalls of Spinal Tap) is a big Todd fan, and supposedly this tour was one of the inspirations for Spinal Tap. But this was back when rock stars used to work hard to entertain their audience - no shoe-gazers here.

  • One of the best shows I've ever seen Dallas'Macfarlane Auditorium late 70's. I've tried to describe to people but you had to be there. We were about 5 rows back left-center stage. We could feel the heat from the dragon the winds on Kasim the water around Willie etc. Todd doing a front-flip off the sphynx WHILE doing a one-handed run down the neck!! I've seen WHO twice, Floyd twice, ELP once, Yes a gazilion times, Rush, Santana etc. and this show ranks right up there!!

  • by the way, does anybody out there have a version of Cliche'? It's one of my favorites to play but he plays it different every time. I've tried regular and open tuning (seems to work much better) and although it sounds good, if I could just see his fingers i could tell what he's doing a little better.

  • Todd is Godd!

  • look out Todd !!! your going to fall

  • Another great thing about viewing all these Todd clips: it's wonderful to read comments written eloquently and in "real" English, not some minimalist, shaved down argot; all spleen and venom, favoured by what would appear to be the majority of YouTubers. Kids, I guess. I suspect most of you, like myself, are over 40 and come from an age when we were taught how to write.

  • I'm 18 and I'm one of the biggest Todd fans you'll ever find.

  • An older fan who loves to see younger fans recognize the talent of Todd. keep up your research. The results will astound you!

  • Im 28 and Todd is my favorite artist of all time.

  • A friend of mine saw the Ra show in the UK and told me all about it, and I recall being really envious at the time. This finally brings his description to life. Fantastic. It would be great to see more, particularly the bit where Todd smashes an ice guitar. (?)

  • I saw the show March 25th, 1977 @ The Fox Theater. Todd climbing the pyramid with only his feet scared the crap out of me. old videotape doesn't capture a lot of details. His guitar reflected the stage lights sending beams of light into the audience. Fantastic show for $9.50 a head.

  • He not only took chances with his music, he took chances with his life! Those "stairs" don't look very sturdy, and to climb them when playing guitar..wow!

  • As cool now as it was in '77. Even better because I didn't have to sit through Starcastle.

The guitar playing is astonishing. Who else EVER played with that mix of melodicism and virtuosity? Nobody, that's who.

  • todd is godd!

  • Sadly, this is all I have. The tape was an "electronic press kit" for "Nearly Human", and the bit I posted was all there was. So, if there is additional footage, it's in the archives at Warner Brothers. And they probably consider it "not commercially viable".

  • Good lord!!! Anyone have anymore RA era footage? Just freakin' incredible!

  • Do you have the rest of the solo performed from the top of the pyramid?

  • I saw this live in '77 and it is still fresh in my mind. Thanks for sharing.

  • Rather you than me climbing those steps Todd !! lol

  • I saw Todd do this this live in NYC at Radio City Music hall ! Simply incredible. This clip doesn't do the show justice but so good to see someone has it & posted it here ! Check out Liars Live on DVD ! Youll be glad you did ! Also Live in San Francisco !

  • That kid is insane!

    Brilliant...

  • that is the most outrageous stage prop I've eve seen!!

    An incredible performer!!!

  • The sphinx had lasers in it's eyes, a water show between it's paws around the drum kit, and flames at the front of the stage.

  • INCREDIBLE!
