  • dude, i click on this video becaue of the screenshot, you have quite an image with the diablo beard and the dave stewart hair. cool..

  • @seifukusha ,,, thanks

  • OMG Fuck, first I thought it was Albert Einstein. Nice presentation Sir. I am looking for a pocket cam for high speed train videos. HD cams suck in sound quality.Hope within a year we see some breakthroughs from Kodak and others.

  • I use an AT Pro24CM with my Zi8. It's an $80 mic but it's cheaper than buying the Zoom for audio. I've done 4 vids with it so far on my page. The Black and White vid was done with Panasonic cameras.

  • you remind me of me with those ending credits.... lol

  • have you tried the zoome q3 hd already i have both the q3 and the q3hd and it`s wonderfull cam much better tahn the q3 much better video and better sound ...

  • @Petrasilchen ,,,,,,,,,,,,yep,,, I bought two of the Zoom Q3HD's,, very happy with them.

    Cheers

  • the problem with plugging the zoom into the kodak is that the kodak compresses the audio and adjusts the gain up and down a lot.

  • I have the Zoom Q3 HD. Not that impressed with the HD 1080p video. It's okay but my Kodak Playsport takes it for video quality hands down. It is a more crisper clarity on the playsport. I am guessing this is due to different codecs between the 2 cameras. I am unfamiliar with how that entire process works exactly but i have some Q3 HD videos posted and will be shooting the same video with the playsport and then theQ3HD for a comparing video. The sounds destroys as always like Curlupndyesalon says

  • As a mic, the H2 is better than The Q3 because there are more (and better sounding) auto compression options. I do better a LITTLE bit of mush on the Q3 audio but none on the H2. Another way to work is to record directly from the desk and mix it in with the camera audio later.

  • An update from me (the poster of this video)

I just purchased the new Zoom Q3HD,,,,, I highly recomend it !!!!!!

    Cheers

  • @Curlupndyesalon I just got a Q3hd and am pretty unimpressed. What is your lighting like? Have you had good luck in low lighting?

  • The Zoom H1 is $100, so that might be a good option if you can't afford the Q3. I heard some clips, one with a Cannon video cam, and it sounded pretty nice.

  • i have been using Zoom h2 with Aiptek 720 and getting good results

  • attention coming soon THE ZOOM Q3 HD IT'S NEW YOU CAN PRE ORDER IT IT'S ON SAM ASH .COM the housing is gray it look a whole lot better than the q 3 upgraded sound video is amazing I guess we complained enough they finally here'd us!!

  • @MrBlewis01 ,,,Wow,, cool,, thanks much for posting that info,,, I will pre-order one tonight !!!!

    Cheers

  • why not use a zoom h4n like I have, then you can get the sound, record it to the camera as well as make real high quality audio only tracks

  • Do you think "stealing" the sound directly from the mixing console into the Zi8's microphone input work as well, better or worse?

  • Thanx - GREAT idea dude !!

....I just wait for the Alesis Video Track - and then I'll decide which one's the best playa for the team

    Peace ~ Harry

  • @DavidCoverday I just watched a few Alesis videotrack videos, and the Zoom beats it by a long shot.

  • dont u have to press record on the q3 though...because of the auto-power off?

  • Have you tried the firmware update for the Zoom Q3?

I have read that it resolves the indoor lighting issue.

  • Great post here man. Thinking about doing the same thing, I already have the Zi8.

But did you try the Rode Stereo VideoMic with the Zi8?

  • So according to your test; my Zoom H2 connected to the Kodak should be slightly better than the Q3(as I have researched that the H2 audio is better than the Q3 audio) Only drawback is that you need 2 hands to operate the duo; and when you're being crushed in a concert crowd, this can be a problem; especially for someone tiny as myself...

I can't believe there isn't 1 machine that can do both well (video and audio)I'm assuming that's what the new Zoom cam will accomplish?

  • thats one of the greatest ideas

  • Great review man, this is exactly what I was looking to do with the Zi8. Was also checking out Tascam DR-08 or Olympus LS-11 to do the same thing.

  • What about the f**** automatic gain on the Zi8 with the Q3 plugged in ? Did you change the input mic settings on the Zi8 ?

  • I had the Q3 for a while now but just got a Zi8 yesterday and planned on doing this with it.

  • That is a drastic improvement!

  • Is the extension cable shielded? Or is it a headphone extension cable? If it's a headphone cable, that could be what's causing the noise.

  • Or just get a good stereo mic for the Kodak.

  • @Juda0326 ,,,, did that,,, all the stereo mics I got for the Zi8 didint even compare to using the Zoom Q3.

    Cheers

  • whitch camcorder would you recomend the Kodak ZI8, or the Flip Ultra HD

  • @fillopygeesi The Zi8 is my favorite over the Flip Ultra.

    Cheers

    Davyo

  • Holy shit thanks for the volume warning

  • @YuneShik ,,,, You are most welcome.

    Cheers

    Davyo

  • how about the Zoom H2?

  • I have never owned or tried the Zoom H2 but I have checked it out online,,,, Im sure it would work just the same as the Q3 when hooking it up to an HD video camera.

    Cheers

    Davyo

  • @CRAZYCRADER no point. the q3 is cheaper and records the same quality sound

  • INTERESTING...HMMM

  • What would really be good would be a 720p 30/60 fps widescreen Zoom camcorder with variable recording volume control plus auto volume rather than the low, high, auto modes on the Q3, an optional stereo line-in would seem an obvious addition too. Most of all it would be great to have less compression when processed by Youtube. The Kodak Zi8's audio raw recordings don't sound too bad but are killed by Youtube.
