Apparently they were using better steel over there. I've been enjoying the car for 2 and a half years now (at the time of this comment) and no rust has appeared :-)

i have a 3dr 1.3 popular as a daily runabout in the same red, its a nice little car and stands out from all the modern crap on the roads, these lower spec cars are rare nowadays not like the common as muck rs turbos.
I've just turned 17 and got a mk4 escort 1.4 as a first car and mine is pretty much the same condition as yours, never been out of a garage, elderly owner and basically mine is completely brand new. These are great cars and yours looks stuning!!
@CHRISYBEANS Nice ! I got mine when I was 18.....I think these are great as a first car (good to gain experience in something with semi old attributes)
Still a bit of a novelty to have my first car, not sure if I'll sell it any time soon as its been 100% reliable and fun at the same time.

@CHRISYBEANS I want on of these when I'm older too. It may look a little frumpy but it's a piece of 80s stuff...priceless. shame about the rusting problems, my uncle had a 1993 escort 1.3lx and it rusted all around the wheel arches.
Very nice. These things are also mechanically bomb proof and so easy to mend. My first car was a 1.4LX Orion - H reg, same generation as this Escort. The joys of a manual choke too :-)
Wow thats in great shape for a 1988! I remember seeing these everywhere in like 2000 to 2004 then they all vanished. Now I only see the occasional G-reg one that looks like a bombs hit it.
Just bought myself a 1.3 1988 it's in top condition just like yours with 1 owner since new except mine is silver. It really is fun to drive even for such a small engine. Happy days :)

Hey you should see my '88 F reg Escort, yours is much cleaner, mine looks a heap now its lost its hub caps but its a 3dr 1.4L!
