  • Where the hell is Harvey Pekar He had a film and was nominated for an Oscar

  • Glad Gloria Stuart was included. She was my favourite in Titanic.

  • RIP Leslie Nielsen, You were always able to bring a smile to my face even in the darkest and saddest moments.

  • I'm SO glad they put Jill Clayburgh in there! She deserved to be! RIP amazing Jill. :)

  • who is Edward Limato?

  • Leslie Nielsen :'(

  • I can't believe Corey Haim wasn't included :'(

  • I had no idea Leslie Nielsen had passed. </3 I'm crying so hard right now.

I always cry during these; so many beautiful and talented people have been lost...

  • anyone know who wrote this song? It was Charlie Chaplain, it was when he was producing one of his silent movies. It is such a beautiful song almost makes a person weep.

  • Luz taylor died after the Oscars

  • Hey, what about great Liz Taylor??????????

  • @cesarrasec33 Liz Taylor is expected to be featured in the upcoming Oscars 'In Memoriam' on 26th Feb 2012

  • @88narayandivya Thank you. I failed to remember she died after that ceremony. Sorry.

  • tony curtis is a douche rest in peices

  • I don't care who is singing, I think it is time to pay respect to those who are gone. An insturmental would have been better suited, and the focus would have been on the people the entertainment world has lost.

  • Where is Dan O'Bannon?!?!? How disrespectful the academy has gotten!!!

  • edward limato died? no way...

  • Beautiful tribute and wonderful rendition of smile from Celine.

  • gosh....poor vanessa richardson...to lose your daughter and then your sister....

  • Watching the memoriams are sad but seeing them reminds us how great and hardworking performers these people became, those we admire, those we know and those we have only just learned who they were. Through these memoriams can we learn more about these people and their accomplishments. I think they should perform "I'm Going To Go Back Ther Someday" for the next memoriam(s); it's a lovely song.

  • Dorothy Provine ??????

  • RIP Leslie Nielsen

  • Michael Sarrazin (1940–2011)

  • @scrollandkey yes, god, I hope they don't leave him out forthcoming oscar night, he's one of Canada's great youthful actors.

  • I love the part of Susannah York and Jill Clayburgh... so adorable.. :D

  • Hollywood is something else, let me tell you. They left Pernell Roberts(our beloved Adam Cartwright) out. Shame on them. Pernell Roberts passed away on January 24, 2010.

  • Why is Horne on this list and not Peter Graves.

  • Had the pleasure of working with Joseph Strick right up until his death last year.

A genuine kind and generous man, not a day goes by where I don't treasure his words of wisdom. May he rest in peace :'(

  • Often found the most moving part of the Oscar Ceremony was the spontaneous applause that would break out during this piece, real tears in the eyes stuff!!

  • RIP Sally Menke

Tarantino's later films won't be the same without you.

  • I feel so sorry for and sympathetic to Vanessa Redgrave....she lost her sister, her brother AND her daughter in the space of just over a year ;( RIP xx

  • gloria!!!

  • Forever...forever in our hearts...

  • Its amazing how a 'smile' can make you feel both happy and sad at the same time. RIP.

  • okay I can COVER this, yes, it was (once again) very hurtful when neither Corey Haim, Betty Garrett or Peter Graves didn't make the cut, but according to research, NONE of the inclusions died within very shortly before, before last year, or in first ten days after it (which these 3 died in), seems like they simply forgot because of calender changes. hopefully the people far behind the oscars will get it RIGHT one of these years, and they HAVE before

  • Sally Menke :(

  • Many dead Jew

  • I'll say what I think, the second it ended my father shouted out, "Peter Graves they should've included!". Because he was popular and although tv's "mission impossible" star, but EVEN if they went against "airplane" and few B-films, he starred opposite William Holden in "stalag 17", whom WON the award for best actor for the film and even comic Robert strauss got nominated.

  • wow! I didnt know kevin mccarthy died. I know him, I saw him in movie "Innerspace". man, thats sad.

  • @fearmonster13 even his "invasion" co-star dana wynter died as well currently

  • @ashcarl116 really? man thats sad.

  • Why do people keep mentioning TV star and wondering why they are not in a tribute to movie stars? Gary Colman was famous for TV work etc etc etc.

For one fantastic moment I thought Celine Dion was dead though when they showed her. Maybe next year.

  • @WillShakespeare2007 Maybe your be next and we won't have to see your stupid comments.

  • @adamps16 - "You'll" not "your" - fucking moron.

  • @WillShakespeare2007 Who cares this isn't an English essay this is youtube. Who do you think you are the real fucking Shakespeare. Become a better individual and stop wishing people dead before you go around correcting what nobody else cares about.

  • @adamps16 - Who cares? Well I do and I was the one who you decided to communicate with you semi literate imbecile. If you're too stupid to communicate in your own language I cannot help but wonder why you think you are qualified to go around telling others what to do. I can only assume that your ego is taking up so much of your brain there is not room for basic literacy skills. If you don't your stupidity corrected by me, then don't communicate with me, even you should be able to process that.

  • @WillShakespeare2007 Why would anyone process or wan't to hear anything from you. You can be as pretentious as you like with your language, but it's worthless if you have nothing decent to say. So before you lecture others, I suggest you look at yourself before you start preaching. As for my ego, there seems only one ego that needs bringing down, and it's quite obviously yours. So correct and say all you wan't, it's worthless until you have anything decent to say.

  • @adamps16 - Again with the "why would anyone" speech, thanks giant ego, I'm so glad I was here to hear your edict to the world. Please share more of your wisdom with us mortals. You do understand you are not writing for the ages but are communicating with another person. I just left a gag, you're the one that felt the needed to comment to me because you are such a supercilious self important jackass. Then you tun that on me! Just go boil your ass.

  • No Satoshi Kon??!! I know he's Japanese, but he was one of the world's truly great animation directors. He deserves the Academy's recognition.

  • Ciao Mario...

  • Gee we lost many great actors, directors etc in show business last year, but the person I lost closest to my heart was my Mum, to me she's the best Mum in the world

  • Oh, Pete Postlethwaite! Now that was a great man.

  • @45T0N

I was shocked when he died, I never really knew how ill he was during the filming of his last two films Inception and The Town.

  • no credit for lena horne. so unfair

  • Thoughtless bastards they are for leaving out people like Corey Haim. He did a lot of good work in his time and should have been given the respect of a spot in the "memorium". Especially when you think about it, it's "Hollywood" that killed him. Now they disrespect him too, the rotten pricks.

  • Yes, they have over the years cut a lot of actors who were great Character and bit players. Who gives a poo about producers and those guys. We go to see movies to see the actors perform their craft and really could"nt give a rats butt about most of the others,Its the one part of the show taht tears me up. Especialy when they flash someone like Leslie Nelson.

  • Would've been nice to show Leslie Nielsen and Ann Francis together in a scene from Forbidden Planet, their best film

  • @blader45bc

I remember that quote from the song science fiction double feature in the rocky horror picture show: "Anne Francis stars in Forbidden Planet." :)

  • Bad version of the song. Even worse they always leave out names, had they not been so obsessed as usual with showing the singer (this ought to be instrumental anyway) they'd gotten more in there deserving of inclusion. Such as Peter Haskell, Per Oscarsson, John Crawford, Harold Gould, Bruno Cremer, Christopher Cazenove, Gary Coleman, Ingrid Pitt, George DiCenzo, Maury Chaykin, Simon MacCorkindale, Tom Bosley, James Gammon, Lisa Blount, James MacArthur, Jill Haworth, Rue McClanahan, Bruce Gordon.

  • I will forever miss Leslie Neisen. I remember reading about his death and I was sad at first but soon after I was smiling so much. He was always making us smile somehow. RIP Lt. Drebin lol.

  • Just about all the award shows have gone downhill truthfully.

  • I'm sick and tired of that Oscars show. The shows are getting more boring each year and the very least they can do is pay respects abundantly. There's absolutely no reason why Corey Haim and Rue C. were left out. That goes for last year and any other year too. They can add the appropriate time to get people in the memoriam they just don't wanna do it. I'm not watching the Oscars anymore.

  • rest in peace leslie nielsen, irven kershner, gloria stuart; we will all miss you

  • Comment removed

  • @pianomanmaestro Please explain to me how you think Jack Lalannane deserves to be in a video of dead MOVIE stars/directors/writers??

  • Comment removed

  • @pianomanmaestro ... No.. he doesn't. he did nothing for film AT ALL.

Therefore, his ancient ass doesn't deserve to be in this tribute.

  • Why don’t we call the Oscars out on their blatant disrespect to Corey Haim? We can post our comments on their website (email address below). It most likely won’t change anything, but after a stunt like that, they should hear what we have to say. contact@oscars.org.

  • I can't believe... they forgot GARY COLEMAN & PETER GRAVES!

  • Didn't know Jill Clayburgh had died. And there will never be someone like Tony Curtis or Dennis Hopper again.

  • @nadian24 I remember reading a magazine article a little while back with behind the scenes stuff for the Oscars and one of the things they mentioned was this, that they ask people not to applaud anymore until the end. The applause used to be led by the seat fillers and because most of them are younger they don't recognize most of the names. So rather than odd smatterings of applause the Academy just decided to tell everyone to hold their applause until the end.

  • COREY HAIM SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED!!!

  • WHAT THE FUCK LESLIE NIELSEN DIED.

    Holy shit... people die.

  • Pete Postlethwhite was a great actor.

Nunca olvidaré su actuación en In the name of the father

  • Actually got a little misty eyed when Leslie Nielsen's name came up. Such a tremendous actor :(

  • Where is John Forsythe?

  • They bumped Tom Bosley, Peter Graves & John to make time for Lena.... wrong choice :0(

  • How was this recorded? Why do we not here any applause?

  • @GQguy24 WHERE'S THE APPLAUSE FROM THE AUDIENCE FOR CERTAIN STARS, it felt dead...the applause is like a final adieu to some big stars who have moved on....what happened?

  • @djingle777 I agree. I wonder if the academy asked them not to, bc I know some years there are those offended by stars receiving louder ovations than others, but I like to hear it as well. This should be the most theatrical part of the show, celebrating entire careers of those gone. I prefer a little momentum with bigger names near the end.

  • @GQguy24 That's my question as well!

  • @GQguy24 you really have a mental problem. People don't applaud during the memoriam.

  • @GQguy24

I taped this using a HD camcorder in front of an LCD screen (have no dvd-r), that's why there's a big "echo" sound (although I tweaked the sound a bit when I re encoded the clip). There wasn't any applause during the segment, only after it finished.

  • @ecatalan98 Yeah, a few years ago, the brilliant producers of the show started cutting off the sound of any applause during the "In Memoriam" segment because they thought it wasn't fair to the people who didn't get any applause.

  • @ecatalan98 What's the name of the song? Thanks !

  • @laksa72

I have no clue what's the song's name! All I know is that the last person to appear on the segment, it's her song.

  • @ecatalan98 The song is called "Smile" composed by Charlie Chaplin, there's tons of covers of it everywhere.

  • @ecatalan98 The last person on the segment is Lena Horne and she also recorded the song "Smile."

  • @ecatalan98 It's called "Smile" by Charlie Chaplin

  • @laksa72 I think the songs name is "Smile"

  • @laksa72 The name of the song is "Smile", co-written by Charlie Chaplin (yes, the slap actor), along with John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons.

  • @laksa72 THE NAME OFTHE SONG IS 'SMILE', BY CHARLIE CHAPLIN, BELIEVE IT OR NOT. A WONDERFUL SONG. EVER.

  • @laksa72 It's called "Smile".

  • @laksa72 The song is just called "Smile". It was originally based on an instrumental theme written by Charlie Chaplin with lyrics by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons. Nat King Cole sung it in 1954, though it's also been performed by Michael Jackson

  • @laksa72 The name of the song is "Smile" and has been recorded by many, many singers: Judy Garland, Dean Martin, Jimmy Durante, literally a hundred or more.

  • @laksa72 ...the name of the song...Smile...a 60's hit...youtube it and see which singer you like

  • @ecatalan98 Will you please upload the generous and gorgeous tribute to Miss Lena Horne right at the end

  • @GQguy24 They finally did it tastefully this year and had people hold their applause until the end. Nothing to do with the recording.

  • You can imagine my sadness when I learned Pete Postlethwaite passed away. I loved his roles in Romoe+Juliet, Dragon Heart, Jurassic Park II etc.

And Gloria Stuart. Did anyone notice she was old as her character Elderly Rose when she went?

  • @TatsuraJ Yeah... it was weird. Her character in Titanic was 100... and she died in her sleep.. same goes for what happened to her in real life.

    strange.

  • gary coleman's missing!

  • Where is EMMY winner Rue McClanahan? She been in movies too....but not just her they missed a lot of people...

  • 3 years ago they also forgot to mention Brad Renfro.

  • I DID not watch the oscars this year after Douglas how could anyone, please tell me this is not the mess that they actualy showed ..Patricia Neal two seconds?

  • Over the years others who left out Dorothy McGuire (A Summer Place, Enchanted Cottage), Troy Donohue (A Summer Place, Parrish, Palm springs), Jack Lord---I know he was more know for Hawaii 5-0 but he was the original Felix Leitner in the James Bond movies; Re the in memoriam sometimes I think they should just drop it because the show is already long and someone is going to be mad when their loved one is left out. I usually prefer TCM's memoriam.

  • @emerybayblues I read a lot of list of people included and not included, in fact they completely failed to recognize Dorothy Mcguire's passing possibly due to 9/11 confusion. however veteran actresses like Ruth Hussey, Anna Lee, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Ruth Warrick and Martha Scott have not been included despite being nominated or having very long worhthy careers. that may explain why. I DIDN'T think this I READ this.

  • Thumbs up if you thought Celine Dion was dead after they showed her face

  • Where exactly was Kathryn Grayson? Betty Garrett?

  • @myrnaloysboy Kathryn Grayson was in last year's tribute, as was Jean Simmons

  • @brickbcn Sorry did I mention Jean Simmons in my comment? Thanks for the info though on Kathryn. Where was Betty?

  • @myrnaloysboy You didn't mention Jean Simmons, but other people asked about it. I suppose (and hope) that Betty Garrett will appear in next year's in memoriam.

  • Where is John Forsythe? Corey Haim? Farah Fawcett?

  • This sort of shit happens every year at the Oscars.

  • Where the hell is Corey Haim? Zelda Rubenstein? (Carolanne come to the light sweetie Poltergeist) You have got to be kidding what a bunch of snobby rude assholes!

  • i got excited i thought celion dieon died lol damn it theres aways next year

  • Too many important celebs omitted: Farah Fawcett, John Barry, John Forsythe; others, of course.

  • @jslasher1 John Barry was the first name, watch the video again.

  • @PestigeKelpone

When Celine Dion started to sing, I had a hunch that it was the "In Memoriam" segment, so I grabbed my camcorder (sorry, I do not have a DVD-R) and barely caught John Barry. Mr. Barry was one of my top 3 soundtrack composers, along Mr. Williams and the late great, Jerry Goldsmith. May he rest in peace!

  • @jslasher1

Well Farah died in 2009, but even then, she was not included in the "In Memoriam" segment at the 2010 Academy Awards. The Academy argued that she was more of a "TV" star, which is a load of horseshit. Sure, she wasn't a Mrs. Streep, but she DID have movies like Cannonball Run, Saturn 3 and Extremeties.

  • @jslasher1 Fawcett was almost exclusively a TV star, and she died in `09.

  • @jslasher1 Are you retarded? Farrah Fawcett died TWO fucking years ago.

  • ... hopefully when some of these bastards die, someone will ALSO forget them!

  • The academy always manages to "miss" some celebrities every year. How could they forget Dan O'Bannon?!?! Corey Heim?!? They were rude towards Farah Fawcett, arguing that she was "better known for her TV work'. What about Logan's Run? Saturn 3? Extremities? Yet they found a right spot for Michael Jackson! They did the same to Roy Scheider, arguing that he died too close to the broadcast. Bullshit! Jill Claybourgh died mere weeks before the ceremony and was included...

  • @ecatalan98 or, you could just stop caring what a whole bunch of other people think and what there opinions are about an entire industry we invented are

  • @ecatalan98 my guess is because corey heim was a horrible actor turned drug loser and he never came close to getting an academy award

  • doesn't make him any less an actor. everyone knows who he is.

  • @ecatalan98

Roy Scheider was included the following year.

  • I just watched last years In Memoriam on here and sure enough Jean Simmons was included. No way would they leave her out!

They have left out some pretty important people though. I remember when Yvonne DeCarlo was left out a few years ago. Probably because everyone thinks of her as Lilly Munster which is TV. Meanwhile the woman made like 30 movies which was the bulk of her career, and she should've been up there.

  • Wasn't Jean Simmons in last years? How could they leave her out? She's one of the great stars of Hollywood's Golden Age...

  • LESLIE NIELSEN♥

  • @lachise05 why leslie nielsen...why!!!....T^T

  • Thanks for posting this up, I wanted to go back & see if maybe I was wrong.. I'm really not happy about all they left out, mostly, Corey.. He deserves better!

  • Many of those people not shown but mentioned in the comments are more from TV and should be mentioned on the Emmys.

  • Well there's another one to add to next years list Jane Russell just died today...sad

  • They left out:

Corey Allen, Barbara Billingsley, Tom Bosley, Solomon Burke, Dixie Carter, Maury Chakin, Stephen J. Cannell, Gary Coleman, Jimmy Dean, Ronny James Dio, Doris Eaton, John Forsythe, James Gammon, Peter Graves, Corey Haim, Andrew Koenig, Steve Landesberg, James MacArthur, Simon MacCorkindale, Adele Mara, Rue McClanahan, Vince O'Brien, Harvey Pekar, Zelda Rubinstein, Tura Satana, Furio Scarpelli, Maria Schneider, Jean Simmons, Joseph Stein, Andreas Voutsinas, Ilene Woods & James Wall

  • @ralphvds Corey Haim- Dud, Gary Coleman - Dud, Ronny James Dio - Musician, not actor

  • @ralphvds How COULD they forget John Forsythe,Peter Graves,Corey Haim,Jean Simmons, and Zelda Rubenstein?! The other people you mentioned were mostly involved in music or tv.

  • still actors aren't / weren't they?

  • @nichole5281 so if lyndsay lohan, mariah, carey, or britney spears died they should be honored at the oscars as well? after all they're famous and were in movies....oscars are for the elite talented actors that move us with their performances....sorry but license to drive and lost boys didnt get corey haim honored at the oscars and neither did being a lazy drug addict living with mom either

  • @Bizarronumber4 Still worth mentioning, though...

  • It's a damn shame they left Corey Haim out ! I'm sick of the people that put this together they need to be fired !

  • Nothing personal against Lena Horne, but outside of Stormy Weather, what else did she do that justified the Schmoozing at the end by Halle Berry ? There was plenty of others totally ignored last night. Peter Graves, Farra Fawcett, Betty Garrett and Norman Wisdom !

  • @Johnnyboy792 Farrah died in 2009. I do agree Peter Graves as well as others should of also been included.

  • @Johnnyboy792 -- most of Horne's other movies had her singing a special number. She always looked beautiful but it was carefully done. Her appearances had nothing to do with the plot and it could be edited out without causing continuity issues when the movie played in certain areas ie the south. Also she played the role of "Jenny in " 'Till the Clouds Roll By" but when it came to doing the movie musical "Showboat", they casted Ava Gardner (who was a good friend) as Jenny.

  • Ya corey haim.. thats a shame he had no mention.. last year it was dan o'bannon ( creater of " alien " ) was snubbed also.

  • they missed a shitload of ppl

  • also that girl from golden girls

  • @16royta RUE McClanahan.

  • Corey Haim?

  • The last one is Lena Horne.
