If you had them tyres at 12 PSI You need a new guage and road tires are best on the beach I never had any trouble running HTs on the beach every weekend and used to always end up towing other guys out!
Yeah man they were at 12 PSI. and my guage is good. was just a really soft patch that the softy rover couldnt get through. The Mitsubishi had no troubles, probably because of the wider tyres and higher clearance though
Usually what i would do is go a little back instead of going way at the back like the guy in the video did and move my steering left n right n try to get it out.
A Freelander with good off-road tires is great off-road. Awesome chassis, suspension, and a shity engine( i heard the diesel is good). My is 152,000 miles and still running. 2.5l yes it is super expensive and tends to self destruct. It can start at extreme temps and has an advance unibody design.
everyone will tell u something different... some say HTs are the best for sand, others say ATs are the best. i say screw it and just use what u got and see how far u go! Its never any fun if the recovery gear stays in the back of your truck!
Try driving out of the ruts... Rule no.1 dont go in deep ruts... you only make them worse and you risk getting stuck...
Go to some pay+play days, learn the technique, learn how to ground read. But most importantly, know your vehicle... A freelander wont go rock crawling, but a defender wont accelerate to 60 as fast... thats because a defender is built for mainly off road, the freelander is made for mostly on road.. Dont rely on the TC, Why do you think they ended up put CDL back on the D2??
did you try to use HDC? I know it is not its purpose, but I wonder if that would help. I own freelander, but I live in central europe, so I never had a chance to try it out on the beach.
you nob!! why would the hdc work!! thats for hill decent not traction controll. when i kept getting stuck what i found best to do was buy a defender! that did the trick and now im only stuck when times are bad. got a winch on that aswell so dont have a toyota pulling you out!
I dunno. i been to a few beach days out and well. it seems all you need is power and inflated all terrains. mud terraints dig to deep and road tyres aint got any grip.
i had my 1.8 freelander most places tht people in disovery get stuck at.
60% = tires
30% = person
10% = everything else
also when it comes to sand the longer the vechial the better as the wight is better distubuted.
sand is fun. and even more fun when your flat out.
When driving on sand this is the most commonly overlooked item and yet I see it all the time (as you so kindly mentioned) The over-inflated tires!
I believe the over-inflated egos might have a little something to do with getting stuck too! ; ) Friendly advice on this one just seem to fall on deaf ears.

Actually, this mark of the Freelander started production in 1997, whereas the Ford Escape wasn't produced until 2001.
And they still make the Freelander, now called the Freelander2, or LR2 in America.

But looks like tyres are too inflated for sand, drop 10psi to spread more tread may help in future :)
