I'd love to get my hands on at least one of those 2 GM Sniper II conversion kits, and maybe that WaD/Armadillo from Turn A (1:06, to the left of the Gelgoog, under the Gouf).
That representation of Aina Sahalin is simply gorgeous.
In my opinion, she's the best girl in all of Gundam, in one of the best of all Gundam series...
A sweet girl with depth and an open mind, but strong and fierce, too. Caught in a battle (literally and metaphorically) that tears her heart in two, and she still stays strong.
I usually get their manipulators for Gundam and recently for Kaimen Rider because they're easy (for resin) to build. But I just acquired the 1/144 scale Kyshatrya Binders and have to say the fit for resin is great. I've built alot of garage resin kits, but these are some of the best. Only thing I'm going to have an issue is if the supports for the binders that came with the plastic kit will support them. They weigh I'd say 2x or more what the plastic ones do.
Experiences, eh? Well, normally I'm a fairly casual model builder like yourself- but the absence of an RGM-79sp GM Sniper II finally drove me off the deep end, and I purchased a conversion kit for the GM Command.
Like you said it was a lot of resin yellow parts, and a LOT of sanding, gluing (the really small pieces were brittle), and painting was required to make it look good.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the final result. but I still want an HGUC or MG if they ever decide to release one.
I don't get why B-Club's stuff is so darn overpriced. Yeah, resin casting obviously doesn't have the economics of scale of injection molding, but given the price point, you'd figure B-Club could put in the effort to make each kit as detailed as possible - but from what I've seen, most of them don't really look better than a normal injection-molded kit. Heck, unlicensed kits from studios like G-System or Neograde positively blow them out of the water.
@MopsMopsMopsMops Resin's really expensive to make. It's also dangerous. Just like when you sand it.Tthe fumes can be fatal as you have to mix it a certain way. Also they usually make them with rubber molds to get the detail and because resin can't be make with a dye. The molds also have to have to be recast constantly from the original masters.
@gunplanut I am aware of that. My point is: Seeing as how costly the process of casting resin is, wouldn't you want the original mold to be as intricately detailed as possible? After all, casting a single non-detailed part takes the same amount of work as an ultra-detailed one. When Neograde et. al. produce a conversion kit, you can be sure it is chock full of panel lines, vents and other details, while B-Club's stuff rarely looks better than an injection kit.
@MopsMopsMopsMops Actually some of the newer stuff they make is pretty good. At least what I've gotten over the past year or so. For example my Kyshatrya binders are really well cast and detailed. They also are able to open up midway like in the anime in three sections. The price should be less, but you figure everything in Japan's expensive.
@rrobbert184 I love these store-tour videos. =D Anyway, resin kits aren't something I'd buy. It's too much work as you have to sand, prime, sand, paint, and then glue all the parts, sand, and paint again. And wow... Resin kits are that expensive? o_O
i've always wanted a complete hguc 8th ms team and im going to eventually going to kitbash my own ez8 if they dont release a better one based on the 2007 ground gundam, anyway i saw that rx-75 there and i just though "holy crap we need one of those!"
@soldier4670 because they are produced in a really low number comparing with Bandai models, and they are resin kits, and the quality of resin is superior and stuff...
if you want to try out a resin kit get something cheap like a weapon or manipulator set to see what its like. you can get those at places like Tatsuhobby for like $20.
resin kits are custom made models or conversions for existing models made of resin, a harder, more brittle material. rather than mass produced, injection molded kits on runners most resin kits are produced in small batches out of hand-made molds, with all of the colors molded in plain tan. they are usually quite rare and require a great deal of effort to look good compared to plastic kits.
Well those old ones are full kits, not conversion sets for the newer MG. even then B-Club is very expensive, a conversion kit for the X-2 or X-3 would still run around 7000 yen.
thankfully the resin reproduction community is growing quickly, including the introduction of colored resins, so you can now get resin kits for very reasonable prices that wont cost you a first born child.

I've really enjoyed some of the kits from B-Club, because in my experience they've been easier to work with than your average resin kit.

resin kits are custom made models or conversions for existing models made of resin, a harder, more brittle material. rather than mass produced, injection molded kits on runners most resin kits are produced in small batches out of hand-made molds, with all of the colors molded in plain tan. they are usually quite rare and require a great deal of effort to look good compared to plastic kits.
