Hickok has too much fun. Not fair. Best reason to own alot of property to shoot on. Just in passing, I went out and bought a Mav 88 18.5" security pump (cant beat the price) and its pretty good but to upgrade you have to spend another 146 bucks to get a longer 28" (with the 3 choke system) Mossberg barrel especially if you get into trap, skeet or even hunting. Better to get the Mossberg 500 28" for $78 more and then buy the 18.5" barrel for $75. You get 2 shotguns for the price of one.IMHO
True story: I was squirrel hunting with my 20 ga single shot and i saw this squirrel about 25 yds away. I shot at it and I didn't hit it (very wide spread) and it ran to bout 35 yards. I reload my shotgun while keeping my eyes on the squirrel. Pulled back the hammer, aim and BOOM! had a bit more kick than usual. Found the squirrel and the damn thing had a hole through its neck & the head hung on by two strands of skin. Checked the casing & a damn slug got into my bird shot LOL!
so answer me this. WHY spend 800 to 1200 on a pump benelli or beretta or any pump for that fact? they shoot the same shells as any 870 or even maverick 88. I just can't justify spending that on a tube with a firing mechanism on it, unless it has somtething i dont understand... pump and shoot right?
How good are you ear buds for shooting because when i shot my gun with regular not good ear buds my hearing was not great for a couple of days but how good do your ear buds work

@Jonbomar715, I shoot basic shotguns a lot in my videos, but I haven't done a tutorial on them. Any plain old Remington 870 or Mossberg will do just fine. There are some other pump guns out there, too, that I"m not as familiar with.

I use have a Mossberg 500 that came stock with a nice rifled barrel and rifle sites. It is impressively accurate with the stock sites; so much so that I haven't even attempted to put a scope on it (or I'm just too cheap). I generally just shoot cheap slugs through it, though I'll put at least a box of Remington Copper Solids (from Walmart) through it if I'm going to take it hunting.
I also have an 18.5" smooth barrel for around the house.
Can i shoot rifled slugs out of a smoothe bore barrel with an improved cylinder choke? its a mossberg 535 ive been told you can but not sure dont want to damge my gun.
@dtrip09 that's not true, I shoot slugs out of my smooth bore regularly. I've heard you shouldn't fire sabot slugs through a smooth bore because they are optimized for rifling. As for choke, you can use them, but you shouldn't use anything tighter than a mod choke. With cheap federal 2 3/4 in slugs, a reflex sight and a skeet choke I can shoot a 7 inch group at one hundred yards.
have you ever seen a change in acceracy between rifled slug guns and smoothbore slugs guns i hunt with a rifled mosbergg 500 thinking about buying a benelli nova smoothbore bore to replace it. shoud i buy a new gun or stay with the 500.
@thegermanPFAU depends bro. Nagant cheap/ cheap ammo and good out to 600 to 900 yards and the mossie 500 awsome up to 100 yards and nothing stops a Big buck like a big ole slug! My first was a 30-30 and it served me well untill age 14 when I shot a huge wall hanger buck at 250 yards and I had to unload on him. That year I bought a 300 win mag that is good out to 1200 yards and I have never had to fire more than one shot at any deer since. If I could do over I would go with .308 cheaper ammo!GodB

Hi, I have a Charles Daly 12g pump shotgun and the I can rotate the barrel slightly (but I can't pull it out of the reciever) if I hold it by the stock and grip the barrel. The magazine cap is hand tight. Is it safe to fire?

@cheesepufff ya your shoulder will be sore the next morning if you shoot a few boxes of full power slugs. but i love the knock down power. we set up a wooden palet and one slug made the whole thing just fall apart.
@vascurten , We usually repaint them before we do a video. That way, you sometimes get a visual on the hit, or a "nonvisual" on the miss. We especially try ot repaint the closer targets before doing a video.

All of your videos are great! What do you think about these new Winchester PDX-12 defensive rounds for shotguns? They have (3) 00 rounds and a slug in one shot. Maybe it would be a good video idea, testing them against your creative targets!

I llike those Winchester foster slugs. They work very well in my Win 1300. Only down side is that availability is pretty poor and price is terrible, 1,20 euro/pc. Cant really shoot them just for fun as often as I would like.

@dreamz20091 , Whatever you prefer. The pistol grips might give more control when you're firing the thing, but I don't like how it makes the gun less handy, which is why after about ten years, I replaced the stock on my Benelli Super 90 with a straight stock. It's a wonderful pistol grip, but it just gets in the way, too.
@dreamz20091 Propably pistol grip helps, if you have a need to reload, while keeping your shotgun pointed at target direction. Many action shooters prefer pistolgrip, but hunters dont. If possible, you should try how it feels and handels for you.

In Finland, we have very little limits for hunting shotguns. Only magazine larger than 2+1 is not allowed in semi-automatic hunting shotguns. Also if shotgun is shorter than 34" in total, it would be difficult to get license for it.
@jpenna1976 i live in Arizona and mine holded 3+1 and after taking out the piece that was keepin it from holdin more shells it now holds 5+1 and its pistol grip but i havent gone hunting yet so im not sure and i just dont wana get in trouble lol u know
I do not know how many times I have been told that slugs are not accurate at all. This will be a good video to show them WRONG, lol. Within 100 yards, it is as accurate as the shooter, like many firearms are.

thats impressive to hit with a shotgun at 80 yards i love my remington 870 i have shot 00buck out of it but not slugs yet i do got some of the federal slugs im gonna fire soon!!!!

Those old Benelli's rule don't they.
I recently picked up an old 121M-1 Swat-gun for half a G.
It even has a Choate tactical stock.
We love it, and we even shoot trap with it.

i cant wait till i take my lil brother shooting my dads 870 with slugs with them, he thinks he can handle it but hes only shot my henry golden boy 22 magnum, so he'll be in one heck of a suprise

All of your videos are great! What do you think about these new Winchester PDX-12 defensive rounds for shotguns? They have (3) 00 rounds and a slug in one shot. Maybe it would be a good video idea, testing them against your creative targets!

Good video! Quick question, I was thinking of shooting 12 ga. slugs at my 3/8 steel plates but wonder how they will stand up, what kind of damage does the 1 oz slug do to your plates?

Thank you, sir, for another excellent post. It's one thing to critique a man's YouTube contribution and and another to post yourself shooting a 12 gauge shotgun without calling 9-1-1 for a dislocated shoulder, as much as you fired it.
Never again will I complain about you calling a magazine a "clip". You, sir, are AWESOME!

I llike those Winchester foster slugs. They work very well in my Win 1300. Only down side is that availability is pretty poor and price is terrible, 1,20 euro/pc. Cant really shoot them just for fun as often as I would like.

@jacobninja25, Yes, I've never owned a rifled shotgun barrel. A rifled shotgun seems a lot like an oxymoron to me! :-)

hey hickok do u recommend using pistol grip on a shotgun when ur using slugs? or buck shot?

@dreamz20091 , Whatever you prefer. The pistol grips might give more control when you're firing the thing, but I don't like how it makes the gun less handy, which is why after about ten years, I replaced the stock on my Benelli Super 90 with a straight stock. It's a wonderful pistol grip, but it just gets in the way, too.

@dreamz20091 Propably pistol grip helps, if you have a need to reload, while keeping your shotgun pointed at target direction. Many action shooters prefer pistolgrip, but hunters dont. If possible, you should try how it feels and handels for you.

In Finland, we have very little limits for hunting shotguns. Only magazine larger than 2+1 is not allowed in semi-automatic hunting shotguns. Also if shotgun is shorter than 34" in total, it would be difficult to get license for it.

@jpenna1976 i live in Arizona and mine holded 3+1 and after taking out the piece that was keepin it from holdin more shells it now holds 5+1 and its pistol grip but i havent gone hunting yet so im not sure and i just dont wana get in trouble lol u know

I do not know how many times I have been told that slugs are not accurate at all. This will be a good video to show them WRONG, lol. Within 100 yards, it is as accurate as the shooter, like many firearms are.
