  • By APU you mean, LEAF BLOWER right?

  • How does the transmission on something like that work?

  • AWESOME! Question: The bike moves from the thrust generated from gases like an aircraft or it's somehow trough chains / wheels ? (and it's with reduction).

  • @tthhnnee jet exhaust spins a turbine that is geared to drive the rear wheels

  • this dude is AWESOME!

  • Well since he knows how to make a jet engine, if I were him I'd have to attempt making a fuselage of a jet airplane and yeah....I'd love to make my own Jet Airplane!

  • What you fed up with Earth then?

  • While that engine is more suited to long trips in a small car, turboshaft engines are efficient. They can run on bio-diesel; hydrogen; ethanol; or just about anything.

  • that dude is awesome

  • Does John have a website, or is the construction of this bike documented on a forum? I have seen this video posted a number of times and I'd really like to know more about it!

  • is that a turbocharger jet engine?

  • Yes it is - quite a big one providing the gas to drive a power turbine.

  • hate them, hate unpure designs. still qute impressive :p how lond it took him to build?

  • Well, making a Jet turbine yourself probably is not that easy. You have to give him credit.

  • wtf?! that was actually pretty slow!

  • OK read the title again... the clue is 'DIY' - he made the engine himself - not bought off the shelf!. If you can do better let's see it.

  • The entire engine? I apologize for my comment then. I was not aware he made the entire engine. That's actually pretty impressive.

  • John's working on a much bigger engine at the moment - I had the privelage of visiting him last month and it's gonna have the same power output as the Y2K bike engine!!.

  • @nickthesafe he is officially a badass

  • @FindlaySucks hardly

  • How did you make it so fast?

  • haha awesome, bollocks of steel

  • Blue Jeans on a turbine bike?!? Can you say ultra road rash!

  • he doesnt have mr Leno`s money either.

  • Ugly---but it seems to run OK. I like the MTT Y2K bike that Leno has.

  • wow im surprised the front wheel is still on the ground

  • nice work :)

  • the 2 stroke that you hear isnt an APU its to start the turbine :)

  • Actually, the leafblower on the ground where he got on the bike starts it. =p

  • you got a long long long long way to go , and y2k already flopped , why try

  • He's a man. Somebody right a Budlight song about that guy.

  • What a lot of people dont realise is that Gas Turbine Engines are the most efficient form of power production in terms of locomotion. Steam was about 5%, Current Petrol and Diesels sit around 17%, Gas Turbine Engines are around 27% efficient. Meaning of the potential energy put in, 27% of it is used.

  • He looks like a squirrel with helmet..

  • is this in isreal??

  • judging by the cars and their accents its Australia xD

  • But he's jay leno.

  • ... protip: Israel

  • One thing is for sure, you WILL know hes coming. That thing is LOUD.

  • Whats amazing is this guy is only wearing jeans and a rough jacket.

  • thats only a little fast!!

  • That's pretty impressive! And it doesn't take a genius to see that this an experiment and wasn't designed for realworld use (yet?) but it does take a complete fucktard to take time off from masturbating to pictures of children on MySpace to come here and tell someone who actually DID SOMETHING what this thing will do on "the track."

Good work guys! I bet it was a blast building that thing!

  • One quick question: is that tourque going to the wheel, or just thrust from the engine?

    Either way, this is great!

  • Shaft horsepower from a freepower turbine, chain driving the rear wheel. Single speed gearbox with a 4.8:1 ratio and ~3.8:1 sprocket ratio for an overall 18.56 :1 freepowerturbine to back wheel ratio .Freepower drive turbine rated to 32,000rpm

  • Just wait 'till you see the Mk 11 being built in my shed at the moment .

    Lighter , smaller , more powerfull :-))

  • Homebuilt turbine bike - Check.

1/2 mile stretch of tar and chip back road - Check.

    Freaky flowing wind-tunnel tested hair-do - Check.

I love it when a plan comes together!

  • this dumbass isnt even wearing leather

  • LOL... Leather is for wimps :-))

  • They like there white cars over there.

  • I think that more speed could have been there but he slowed a bit . I think on that road he could have hit 320 at least .

  • Good for you guys.

  • wow, very impressive... 200kph! congratulations it's now as fast as an almost stock cagiva mito 125... and the acceleration looks pretty lame too! poor

  • LOL..Perhaps a look at the bikes instruments during final test runs might give you a better appreciation of its acceleration , the video is here on Youtube under "turbine bike" , 12 second quarter mile at 200 kph terminal.

This is with a single speed gearbox and no clutch , Try that with your little 125 and see how it goes , or rather, doesn't go :-))

  • You are such a tool. Take a stroll, hater-vermin.

  • Awsome,Could i contact you with some questions for my own bike.Love-it,Aussie know how.

  • That must have been a helluva wind blast. Great sound on the fly by!

  • Might be fast in a straight line, try it on a track it and will handle like a bag of shite.

  • Just makes me happy that there are crazy M-Fs out there doing stuff like this; the world's not so dull after all.

  • lol its pretty fast but i was hoping it might be faster, as soon as i saw all those commodores lined up i knew this was aussie made.. good stuff, when does it go into production mate? ;P

  • gixxer 1000 wup yo ass

  • wow, lol.

  • Thats great !!! I wish I could do something as neat as that!!

  • did you also work on it?

  • sounds awesome, but it's no so incredibly fast as one would expect from a "turbine motorcycle".

  • that's f*ing beautiful, that man is my hero!

  • dang!!! that thing is bloody awesome!! takes a man to ride a triumph, takes a monster to ride that thing lol. Cheers

  • ugly but quick...get a hair cut!!!

  • Wicked Awesome!

  • mate that was bloody awsome , keep u[p the good work

  • bloody good work mate!!!!

  • I guessing those are not Z rated tires?

  • Insane!

  • wear the fox hat

  • thats an old hippie since you all think all hippies were dumb and burn outs

  • KenAwesome Fellas.. Would Like to see a write up in motorcycle news. Balls the size of West Oz.

  • that is some crazy motorcycle

  • i can run faster than that thing...

  • Is it fuel efficient?

  • no way :P

  • is that a squirrel under his helmet?

  • LMAO man thats funny

  • thats some insane shit whats that do in the 1/4 mile

  • Turbine engines werent designed to work in the kind of air you find at this altitude, the air is thinner and more combustible and easily compressed at highger altitudes...plus turbines werent particularly desgioned for speed, but effiency. they are about a 22% efficient engine, so you put in 100Hp, you get approx 22Hp back...

  • eh? thats not true.

a gas turbine engine works fine at sea level, its actually more efficient than at high altitude because down here the air density is higher so the compressor does not have to work as hard to supply the same volume of air as it would at high alt. meaning lower fuel consumption. they use them in tanks, boats and trains, not just aircraft.

  • @JetJockey87 your an idiot

  • In australia:) Look at that holden mate

  • But Where?? Hopefully SA because I wanna see that thing
