Glorious cover of an Etta James classic. Stan the Man and Christine Perfect (and the rest of the band, of course) are just, well, perfect on this. First heard this sitting in the bath back in '69 and was knocked sideways by it (not literally, of course). Scrumptious! You can hear the hurt in her voice so clearly, it's painful. 'Night Life' is also a gutsy blues tour de force, demonstrating just what a fine artist Stan Webb is. Great post!
@SilverWolfMoon And both richly deserved this accolade. Christine, of course, went on to mega-success with Fleetwood Mac, but dear Sandy was taken from us all too soon. Had she survived, with better management and handling, who knows what she may have achieved? Now all we have is fond memories.
The amazing legato licks on Nightlife...sounds like a 335...and how about a WEM for a very up front sound. I rarely played the A side, I'm a guitar man!!
My Blue Horizon original might make an interesting mouse mat....joke!!
Christine put her own stamp on this song and did not try to slavishly follow Etta's original. Nice to hear this version again as it seems to have got overlooked. Did well in the UK charts at the time as I recall .
it brings back my youth. love it

True memories of Happy, Happy Days. Thanks a lot.
I was 19 then. Freedom of expression and individual liberties were exploding all around me. Truly wonderful....Proper quality. Thanks again.

my 45 still plays well too, & the B side with Stan Webb singing is just brilliantly soulful

For a hauntingly beautiful voice she's right up there with Sandy Denny

@Rhyull Interestingly, Christine won an award for Best British Female singer two years in a row with Chicken Shack, and then Sandy Denny won it!
