Female sith lords interesting. I was used to the male perspective on Star wars. All Jedi and sith were men. Until I saw Episodes one and two with the intro of Mara Jade. Otherwise besides Lea and Padma mostly male characters in the films. To be more equal Lucas created more female and even Afro american characters, like Lando and Mace.

Only one female sith is notable as a sith lord (Or, correct term, Lady of the sith), and that was Lady Lumiya, whose body was destroyed by a duel with Luke Skywalker. Skywalker and Lumiya turned out to be lovers a long time back, and Lumiya ended up being killed by Skywalker out of mercy.

Not many of the females end up as 'Lady of the Sith'.

That would be because Palpatine was a sith who was versed in both Jedi and sith teachings. Being a Sith doesn't mean you learn just what the Sith do. Palpatine, after the Jedi Purge, took all the knowledge from the Jedi archives and learned everything he could from all sorts of holocrons and so on to further extend his power.

Sith do not limit themselves. Jedi do in star wars. Read Darth Mauls character biography.
