I once sold My Strauss album at a boot sale, realising afterwards that it was the hiding place for my Ian Dury Autograph. I was in Australia, and my friend wrote to wind me up and tell me shed gone to see him live. BUT she did get his autograph for me. It said, "Sunny moons, Distant enchantment, Love to Andrea, from Ian Dury.xxx " Gutted I lost it.
I recall this coming out in the 70s a boy bought it into music class and told a stand in
music teacher that this was an excellent album most recommended by our usual
teacher. She allowed him to put it on and the poening lines 'Arsehole, bastards, fuckin, cunts and pricks!' bought the turn table to a halt and us laughting our cocks off. This was along time ago don't forget.
Best Ian Dury mix ever and a befitting compilation for a sweet and talented man who kept laughing and enjoying life through terrible hardships, loss and pain. Love ya, Ian, mate.
@didier350 he's a poet and he know's it ...hope he don't blow it.....beautiful guy ....much missed....met him once....sweet gene vincent......nice to see a French person ...understanding ...ian dury....la plume de ma't'unt......or je t;aime moi non plus....rock'n'roll''''love lennydylan...xx
Really been getting into Ian Dury's music in the past weeks, gotta credit Andy Serkis and the creators of the new movie about Dury for introducing me him and his music.
@GarrettKeetley He's just awesome. My best mate became a bigger fan than me, giving me every other album...unbelievable shit...I was so pissed off that I never got to see them in Perth when they toured here in '81 but then again, who would let two underage punk rockers in to see the man? ;)
My cousin gave me this cassette when I was 12, that was in 1980, and I could never understand why he gave away such class. Within a week I had all my friends hooked on Ian Dury and the Blockheads and I'm still hooking friends to this day...
Real musicians that created unique tracks full of sound & lirics that were 1st Class. My favouirite track from the album. I was listening to this band 30 years ago & never tire of Ian Dury & the Blockheads .
A bit like Hovis : As good for you today as it's always been !!
@yzeefoureight From Kilburn and The High Roads to The Blockheads this bloke was a poet. Was fortunate enough to see him live at the first Madstock in Finsbury Park what must be close to 20 years ago ( although I've a vague, getting old now lol, memory of seeing him in Kilburn before that ) and I still never tire of hearing his tracks. FAR too many good ones to pull out a favourite. Though Billericay Dickie being a great one from this album
cracking track.. saw him in my youth when he was in kilburn.. a dear friend sat for a while with him just before the end.. such a waste..."life" kudos Ian.. sorely missed
Ian Dury's New Boots and Panties album belongs in every music collection. The music is brilliant ad the juxtaposition between is East London accent and "lewd" lyrics and the smooth funky, soul, jazz flavor is so satisfying on more than a few levels.
hey you..... yeah you are you listenin......this is pure genius.....Ian Dury you are Clever.....and sadly missed i grew up listening to you and 70s 80s music what a great era of music this was.....loved it
