@altosaxophoneist203 Haha, of course you could play tuba! I have a good friend who is mainly a bass clarinetist but plays some tuba as well (especially for marching band). When I went into band myself, I started on tuba straight off without playing euphonium/baritone first; I don't see any reason why you should need to =D
I am a Lindy dancer who just bought a Tuba knowing nothing about it. My ambition is to jump in to jam sessions with dixie/new orleans music beeing and be able to add something to the sound. This video was awesome to learn from.
@cmsbassist Well, in that video, I was using a Marcinkewicz mouthpiece. It plays pretty solid in all registers, but the sound is a little bright and less beefy. Now, I use a Conn Helleberg, which has a bigger bore and a smaller cup, and it gets a darker sound without compromising the low register too much. I'd say the Conn Helleberg is one of the better choices (considering price) out there, but if money is no object, then it depends on what you're looking to get out of your mouthpiece.
@smuzz89 well iam just starting to play tuba, like for real, today was my first time making a noise, and soon i will get lessons from some fellow tuba players at school, and i figured out how much the mouthpieces are...round 100 dollars, and i can't afford that.
@ByakuganRaven123 Sure. Assuming that you're just starting out, then your problem is likely more the quality of horn rather than the number of valves. Good 3 valve tubas can exist, but normally don't. Anyway, if you're having problems getting notes like low C/B in tune, then reach around with your left hand and yank the 3rd valve slide out a little when you play those notes (hopefully, you can get them to move easily). It takes awhile to get used to the coordination, but just keep at it.
@brassmachine93 Haha, I'm sorry to say that there's no one song I can attribute those notes to; I simply played the most generic polka bassline that I could think up.
