@jr4460 my vaio cw series came with Core i3, an Nvidia geforce gt 330m graphic card and it can run games like Resident Evil 5, GTA IV and CoD: Modern Warfare 2 (: YES ITS A GREAT LAPTOP :D
sir, nice review. I was considering this laptop for a week as a replacement for my old laptop. How is its battery? How much is this in the philippines? I heard this is way cheaper in the US... is there any freebies that came with it when you bought it in Avid? thanks for the reply
@icimage - Battery life is not so good. Powerful machine kasi. And yes, they are definitely cheaper in the US. Between 10 to 20% cheaper. Sony does not give too many freebies away. Or at least the stores don't give many freebies. In fact, sometimes they don't even come with a bag :(
@rajibumbum I have the old core 2 duo 2.2ghz CW, bought it just after christmas and to be fare this laptop is way better on battery than my old vaio series FZ and i paid double the amount for the FZ model. If you go higher in processing power it's pretty obvious that the battery is not going to last long, plus i don't understand what an extra 200 hz is going to give you on a processor, other than high end gaming.
@gege0304 - my normal source for sony laptops is Avid Store. They give good discounts. Tough call on which one I want the best. I like S series coz it is the most business like laptop. But the E series looks really nice too with its neon laminates. Plus the new E 14 incher with the 1gb ATI gpu coupled with a core i5 cpu looks mighty appealing too!
@HardNotTo - easy to replace hdd w ssd. There is just a user accessible back panel underneath the unit. When you get to the hdd at the back, you just remove the screws and slide it out. Then fit in the new ssd.
im going to get the SONY VPCCW1Z4E version is it good ?. My acer broke again so now they let me change to something new and this is what i want, would white help with fingerprints on the glossy finish?
@TimeSplittersChimp - youn know waht. I'm liking the E series a like now too. It has a nice laminated print neon finish. And this should hide fingerprints better than the CW. Plus it has a corei5 cpu coupled with a 1gb ATI gpu. And just about the same price as the core i5 CW with just a 512mb nVidia gpu.
thanks for the reply guys.. But i bought the White one! haha.. it was the only unit left at the store.. The unit is so nice.. looks very professional.. I think this is just fine for me.. i am happy with this unit =p
i have red one, wtih nvidia 330m and i3 which runs cooler than i5 and i7 without a significant loss in performance contrary to general thinking, try passmark benchmarks and see it by yourself, however, for sure any color of the cw looks great but pink
Jep, I'm going for a sony vaio S. I actually don't need all the professional stuff on it like fingerprint reader and HDD protection, but the only reason i don't go for CW is glossy finish. Glossy is great looking, but I only have a glossy iPod and a cellphone. On a laptop it's too much I think.
@bakkermaarten007 - Yes, that is what I like most about the S series. The chassis is classy yet has that almost matt-metalic finish. No fingerprints at all. Very nice indeed.
@javier29m90 - this is the biggest drawback. The glossy finish is a bit of a bummer. The S on the other nad has a great finish, which does NOT attract fingerprints at all.
But again, I like the core i5 machine better. If you can get an S with a core i5 engine, pls do so.
@mrajrong - Hi sorru for late reply...honestly, the S is one fine machine and a real looker. Plus the chassis is really premium, almost carbon-fiber-like. And the backlit keyboard is great! Plus it almost has a culv-like thin-ness to it.
But if you like more power, the core i5 is really a different monster. It's more powerful than the i3 by maybe 30-40%. And this is the reason I went with the CW core i5 instead.
I don't think it does :( The Vaio S had hdd protect, since every time i vibrated the laptop, it prompted me that the hdd was protected. But this CW has not.
But since I changed the hdd to a solid state drive, I don't look for that function anymore.

How did you "switched with 64gb Runcore IV ssd"? In terms of buying the computer and in terms of physically swapping out the 5400rpm drive?
