  • Everything is within. Peace, love, freedom is all within. There is no external source for "happiness" as the experience of "getting what you want" is internal and within you all along, with or without the actual object of the wanting being obtained. Watch all of the clips on youtube from Adyashanti on "the gift of wanting". It adds some clarity to what you already are beginning to understand.

  • And to take it a little further...while everything is within, YOU are also an expression of everything...why does a flower bloom? Why does the wind blow? Why do the oceans move? In stillness, the expression of what you are emerges...you are a unique expression of all that it is, just like the flower, winds and oceans. Let that expression emerge and you will "do" what it is that moves you in harmony with all that is. After all, not doing anything is still doing something.

  • Why do anything? thats a good question

  • Thank you so much Nielsio! Some say that once you realize THAT you're out the game! Lol! You have beautiful "I"s! Good to know those "I"s are out there, it can be tremendously "lonely" to know THAT and not being able to share it with others, still, we are THAT! Lol!

Dont you worry, even is this kind of "seeing" doesnt reach to many, it sure reached me!! I see you lol! Beautiful...........just beautiful.

    Thanx for the insight again!

  • Most people are involved in 'This Game' as you refereed to it because they have to pay the bills! We are all slaves.

  • @CelticReject We are only slaves when we accept our shackles.

  • @llewellynjoshua The problem is that without our shackles we will starve. We need to be enslaved now. Some of us do not like our shackles, true. But we all know deep down that without them we would be toast!

  • Zen masters, hindus, buddhists have always known this. In Zen, it's called purposeless, but not as meaninglessness as one might think of in a condescending way, but as in there's nothing to do. Hindus believe life is a drama or a dance of energy, and in a dance, there's no designated spot you aim to be at, the point is the dance. When you sit in meditation, you do realize you are "it." When you cease thought, you then resonate with the divine mind. Search Alan Watts - Music & Life here at Ytube.

  • Why do anything? A personal choice for sure, but then again..why not?

Your own biology is going to set you to task with certain goals to meet. Feed yourself or die, breath, excrete, fight, run, hide...survive. So it does seem as though reality has it's own agenda independent of one's personal ambitions. After these needs are met, then we have the time to mindfuck yourselves about the meaning of it all. So my choice is to create-that's like 'God's gig' man;and I want a piece of the action.

  • 100m yacht? Thats a big yacht haha. But seriously, enjoyed your video and thouroghly agree. Self realization is where its at ;-)

  • @johnTconover why have a 100m yacht? why dont we live a more simple life...20m yatch it would be enough.. :) , nice video Nielsio!!

  • Nice stroll in the dark there Nielsio, I enjoyed the walk. I share and subscribe to everything you said. You are not alone. Long ago I realized that we are born alone, we live alone (some do it among others) and all die alone. So how could it be otherwise then "You are IT". Thanks for sharing those thoughts and shedding so much light while walking in the dark...:-)

  • Thanks Jose,

At the same time though, we are not alone. There are so many good things around us and so many people have done great things before us that we can tap into.

  • Agreed, but it's not it that sense that I meant alone, it's in the sense you were giving in your talk about people constantly seeking a purpose and the need to look for something or someone when in fact they can hardly stand being with themselves because in many cases they never even stopped a moment to think about it. As you say, many run away from doing that because they are scared of the answer. Terrorized is more the word.

  • Right.

  • @Nielsio You are on the wrong track, my friend.

Take some time, and reintroduce the ideas

you are talking about on this video, to yourself.

    You're too young

    to be a bore!

  • First of all, happiness is over-rated. Back in the 60's folks mused about a "happy pill" that would bring contentment. Well, now we have crack and a whole bunch of happy people trying to escape suffering. Yes, it is true that we must find ourselves and to do this we must let go, but it is also true that after doing so, we come back, so to speak, from the forest. Can we eliminate karma, with karma...no, Can we lessen the burden of angst and suffering from others, ..absolutely!

  • You can be happy and hate someone. You can't supress your feelings to give an illusion of happiness. Nobody is happy all the time, and someone who is, obviously supresses feelings. Believe what you want to believe, but don't laugh at the ppl who don't see your point of view, that is just being ignorant.

  • I hate ppl like this. Laughing saying ppl aren't happy. Many many ppl live happy lives, because they don't spend their time thinking about stupid stuff like this.

  • Is hate a sign of happiness?

  • what is happy?

  • read a definition. In my own opinion, being happy

  • in my own opinion, being happy is having a true smile. Not a forced smile, but something inside you that gives you a good feeling, making you smile. Like waking up in the morning after meeting a girl that you like. This can make you smile. Listening to a good song can make you happy... doing a good deed etc etc. Happiness is not a precise thing, but you will know when you are happy.

  • So, how can you be sure when someone else, not yourself, is happy?

  • You can't know what another person is feeling. You can't be sure if someone else is happy. But the issue I was having with this video, is exactly that point. How does this idiot know if someone else is happy? he's saying people who like tangible objects are not really happy. Its a stupid comment and I hated the way he laughed at others just because they feel good when they get a new car.

  • @ladiesman2222003 To know nothing is the sweetest life...this is true...but to qestion is to seek truth.

  • @ladiesman2222003 why is stupid to think of what is life about?

  • is it even possible to do anything at all? What exactly is doing what is done?

  • "Why do anything?"... You can't escape 'doing', so you must decide the type of 'doing' your existence will proceed with. Existence is inescapable too, non-existence doesn't happen (redundantly obvious). Will your 'doing' lead to suffering or peace?

  • HYCHCHCACHACAHCHCAHCCHACHA

  • being completely mad is the opposite of

    being paranoid and afraid.

people are afraid to go mad

when they really are nuts already

and it scares them that this is so.

then has become now for ultra insanity

like a wave across the land, popping minds

    toward a better perspective.

    i like this video.

  • I enjoy sex, good food and fast cars. I do what I can to enjoy these things as much as I can before I die. Not going to waste my time wondering about the nature of existence. Live; don't think about it.

  • @headpump to each his own

  • how about not taking things to seriously, expecialy yourself, life for the living experiences have their own intrinsic value, have a laugh and fuck the rest, not very philosophical but mabye true, hope so :)

  • danny123xvz that's a worthy philosophy but not the mindset that enabled your ancestors to build an empire. Don't drop the soap, bro.

  • empires are cruel, I'm glad we lost our empire its not something i take pride in, so our ancestors were more vicious than everybody elses? oh dear :P

  • the most beautiful, impactful stories, to me, are the ones where people continue to fight for whats right, even when all hope is gone. even when the end will not bring the fruitation they hoped for. but to fight because it was to say- "this is me, this is me, and I would rather fight and die, then to have my freedoms stripped away with the knowledge that I did nothing.

  • if you had REALLY listened to joe (especially in interviews with bill moyer) he talks about this. and he asked his guru once "if all life is sacred, how can we say no to what is bad?" and he says "the only thing you can do, is say yes, yes to exactly what it is" bill gets uneasy and says, but what about fighting for something? then we do nothing? joe says absolutely not, you participate! participate in the mystery, be who you are, and follow your bliss. this is all you can do.

  • Why do nothing? whats the purpose of doing nothing. Just be does not mean be sedentary.

  • You sound like you would really identify with Stoicism too Nielsio. My philosophy site is called 'the Humanist Contemplative' and it's at humanistcontemplative [dot] blogspot [dot] com if you're interested. Things I write about seems right up your alley and I'd love to hear your thoughts on them! Thx :)

  • Excellent Nelsio :) It's meaningless to use the word "matters" without reference "to whom". "Mattering" is a conditional state as held by an agent. It is necessarily a relational word. So "does life matter?" has no y/n answer and no meaning. It is an incomplete sentence fragment. It can only be answered if you ask "does life matter to x?" We can ask, "does life matter to the universe?" but why should I care what matters to universes, I am a human. I therefore care about what matters to humans.

  • Well spoken! By any change, are you Dutch?

  • I am Dutch ;)

  • Haha ik dacht het al aan het accent te horen, niet dat je nou een accent ala Lubbers hebt hoor. Mooi filmpje en ik kan mij er helemaal in vinden. Ben je al lang met deze materie bezig?

  • Absolutely. Allen Watts "This is it" the book that really got me out of the box.

Why do anything? You can't do nothing and you can't do something. You are a reflection of the whole...You are the whole. There is no nothing to do or something to do. Be!

  • everybody is also very alone inside? like...everything i see hear?

  • Uhhh...the question doesn't make sense. Everyone does something. It seems to me, that you are born into the world. And one day you die. And the question is really, what are you going to do in the in-between time you have? And upon what basis are the various choices made?

  • "What do you expect?" Woah defenately a grate one too, and didn't sound exactly like Joseph Campbell (not that there is anything whatsoever bad about sounding like him). If evrything went complitely as you expected, you would go insane in a very limited time, not to mention that it would be complitely boring.

  • advaitism is the closest to what you are talking about. It is an Indian philosophy about non-duality. anyone interested might look up a guy called Sri Ramana Maharshi. very interesting life story.

  • Cool, thanks.

  • excellent. Well-spoken as the others have said.

  • Thanks for that Niels - got me thinking again on some new levels. Non-dual reality is what it's all about, but as you say, it requires plenty of exercise - something which I am guilty of (even though I'm not supposed to be guilty of it).

    Thanks again.

    David

  • Re-evaluate everything your acculturation taught you. Everything. The questions you mention are part of the result of such investigations. Habit can be dangerous.

  • I mostly agree with you, and you're very well spoken. But, if I understand you correctly, you're implying that goals are essentially worthless.

I think it's amazing that we're here, and it's mind boggling that such a variety of opportunities for experiencing emotions exists. That realization is no reason to abandon traditional goals though.

Where you see beauty, create it. Where you see interesting work, achieve it. If that causes pain, it could be a sacrifice worth making.

  • "When you're on a journey, and the end keeps getting further and further away, then you realize that the real end is the journey." --Karlfried Graf Durckheim

  • the point is not to attach too much importance to your goals, as in "when I get X I will finally be happy".

  • I love these late night strolls through the mind. Nicely done, Niels.

  • I agree... Nothing really matters. In life there is pain and there is pleasure. I accept both but wish i could reduce pain and increase pleasure for myself and everyone life being around me. Is this possible? And what if we to all do the same?

  • Existence is suffering. Pain cannot be avoided, but it can be transcended. Accept pain as it is, and it is no longer pain, but only another kind of experience.

  • Very interesting, as always. People spend so much time rushing to the future, and don't take the time to stop and see everything around them, or question why they are chasing something. "why" is not an easy or, I think, useless question.

  • Nielsio, you're a genius. I love your voice.

BTW, I've listened to about 3 parts of the "Power of the Myth" series. We need to discuss it more.

  • Ah, nice.

If you get a mic you can hear my voice on skype as well.
