Solar power is great but you get much more bang for your buck with solar hot water heating (which can be used for your domestic hot water and for radiant floor heat) and by taking steps to conserve energy like using CFL's and LED's for lights. Also energy efficient appliances like the Sunfrost refrigerator and Stauber washer and dryer should be used before you even THINK about solar electric.

The advantages of solar panels over using the grid are endless. If the power goes out for everyone else, you would still have power. Also it is not about the money when it comes to being green. The government should have thought about that first before they started thinking only of money.

All it would take is a little push from the government to initiate some solar mandates and the technology would take off and the price would drop. The reason it is so expensive is because not many homes use it. The roof of every station on the Long Island Rail Road should be covered with solar panels and turbines. That could help power the trains or feed the grid. It's criminal that this technology is not being put to better use.
