  • Kudos sir, kudos. Someday my '73 FJ40 will sound like your FJ60.

    Job VERY well done.

  • There is a guy building adapters for NV4500. His site is 4bdconversions

  • This engine is from an 89 Isuzu NPR

  • what year 4B motor is that? out of an NPR? im planning on building a tow rig and using a NV4500 behind it and want it simple, no electronics etc....

    thanks

  • Really perfect. one kick start shows fuel pump perfect. no black smoke. Good.

But not good for the dog. shock.

  • Great post.

I want to do the same swap into my FJ60 - what transmission / transfer are you using? will a Toyots 5 speed mate up to this engine? How is the power in the truck after the install? Any clearance / oil pan issues?

    Thanks

  • Sounds great. If the 2F in my 60 dies I'll have to go this route.

  • In Japanese, the 4BD1T translates to something like, "PURE AWESOME". This is one of the torque-iest 4 cylinders I have ever seen. An amazing powerband, too. Isuzu ftw.

  • your engine looks really new though

hehe btw im planning to get a 2nd hand 4JG2T

  • Actually, this is a used engine from 1989 that I spent a few months rebuilding myself over last summer. I wish we could get these new here as well.

  • @longbowdon here in philippines, there are many engines like that, i had 1 of those, 4bd1 turbo intercooler with high and low transmision, giving power to my jeepney, i mean a kind of public transport vehicle here in phil. thanks, god speed!!, thanks for the video

  • This is the most favored engine used in the jeepneys here in Philippines, and most of it were used engine imported from Japan. It is 4 cyl and stronger than those V6 gas engine in the 70s or 80s. It's my first time to see it new in the video, exhaust manifold and the engine block are in silver color. Some of the new parts we purchase here are Made in USA. I wish we could acquire new engine like there.

  • Yes, I put it in my 85 fj60 with a H55F 5 speed. I finished it up just before the holidays and now have about 3000 miles on it. I love it! It is still breaking in but I am getting about 25 to 26 mpg on average. I am running 35 inch tires with a spring over lift so this gives me a little better final drive ratio. Are you going to keep the auto or convert to standard? If you keep the auto tranny you will probably have to convert to chevy 700r to get it to mate up to the Isuzu adapter. Don

  • @longbowdon thanks for the update. I already have the FJ62 with an H55f, 5 inch lift, 35's, so it sounds like it will be very similar to yours. I have stock 4.11 gears, hopefully that will work as well with this engine.

  • @longbowdon Nice job right there brother! Where can i buy one of them? Thank you.

  • Nice, thanks for making the vid. I am considering one for my FJ62. Are you putting it into your 60?

  • I guess the dog doesn't care for it too well!

  • @73SDR

You're right, she didn't. I didn't know she was back there until I looked at the video and it was too late. :-)

  • @longbowdon try to put an original isuzu elf truck differential with a gear ratio of 8.41, and a high and low transmision also, a genuine isuzu tansmision, my jeepney here in the philippines had it all, and carrys 9 tons of banana, , thanks again, hope, you appreciate my comment, thanks!!
