Case open. This is a romantic composition by a romantic composer during the romantic period. Hummel is clearly not a classical composer as this concerto tt he composed is dramatic. Classical pieces are generally not dramatic and, most of the time, do not have a climax.
this would a classical piece not baroque. the baroque period lasted until around the mid 18th century when bach and handel both died. it was followed by the classical time period. and im not sure about the trumpet but the mouthpiece is at least a monette.
He's SO TALENTED! Better than any other 13 year old trumpet player i know! The only thing that bothers me is his horn angle...BUT he's really good and has a really nice tone quality!
Great tone. I'm 18 and working on this song. You seemed to lack some of the dynamics and articulation, but you've better range and support than I do, lol. Getting through the end of this sucker isn't easy, but you do it well.
the only thing that i think must be taken into consideration is the dotted eighth note followed by the sixteenth not. it sound like you're playing triplet eighth notes with a rest in between. Other than that this was a fantastic performance. Being this good at 13 years old. all i can say is WOW
Awesome for a 13 year old - I wish I had sounded that good at 13! The musicality could use a little fine-tuning, and the energy is lacking in some places, but those are easily fixed, and he IS outstanding for his age.
I just got this piece and have to perform it the first weekend of february for Music Performance Assesment, I am 14 and a freshman using a Yamaha Custom Z silver trumpet, wish me good luck!
i played this sophmore year, yet i must admit i beleive ur sound quality is much better. all i can say is at around 2 40 the low notes sounded kind of blasted. just an opinion
The only suggestion I could give would be to straighten that posture, though I do see the positioning of the music... maybe bring it up a little more, really helps with projection (though that doesn't sound to be an issue) and should help with airiness of your sound... Great work, I waited till I was a freshmen to try the Hummel, and well competition I let my lips get to me... but I guess going between tuba and trumpet will do that
Excellent, Robin! At what age did you begin playing the trumpet? What kind of trumpet do you play, and what mouthpiece works best for you? I'm asking you these questions because my son (8 years old) recently expressed an interest in playing the trumpet. So, we may be shopping around for a horn (maybe a student model) and mouthpiece (Bach 7C?) for him soon. You handled this piece very nicely! Keep up the great work!
i wouldn't consider a monette a "student model"..seeing as its the kind that wynton marsalis uses, and they're like, what, ten thousands of dollars?
but, if he's eight, does his school have a band, because if it does, you could ask the band teacher.. otherwise, yamahas are pretty good and feel nice and play well, getzens are good as well, [i own one], edwards are kindof like monnettes, so would also cost a great amount of money.
nice, you must have started early and worked hard to be able to pull that off at 13. good tone, pretty much everything under control, but maybe felt a little slow perhaps? anyway, nice job, and ridiculously nice horn too.
age has absolutely nothing to do with musical talent. That kind of talent requires Practise. Yes, you are born with some type of "natural talent" but a lot of it is just practise.

I dont know the make or model but he is playing a cross-bore varnish free trumpet. It tends to produce a darker sound than most trumpets

A job well done, no doubt about that. Way to fight that big hunk of metal they call Monette to sound light, and have a nice classical tone.

Might I suggest memorizing the piece to allow more focus on musicality. Overall it was an excelent job; theres no way I could do that when i was 13

Is the Hummel concerto considered to be a baroque piece? Hummel lived from 1778-1837
