I had the chance to see Michael Jackson in concert in Germany in 1989(this was during the BAD TOUR). Greg was there also as the music director. To me, the best part of the concert was the intermission. ALL of the band players had a solo starting with Greg, and they ALL KICKED ASS!!!!!!
This is WONDERFUL! I had no idea he'd covered this! He's also a seriously hot keyboard player, as anybody who saw him on the road as part of Toto can vouch
It's too bad his solo career never went anywhere cuz I always thought Greg or "Mouse" as he used to be known when he was the bandleader of a shortlived American talk show, had a pretty good voice. He's also a helluva good keyboardist too.
lyrics Michael Jackson and Chris Mosdell. music Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yukihiro Takahashi from their band called The yellow Magic Orchestra, the arrangement Michael Jackson, his producer Quincy Jones,Greg, himself. and the very original recording, by the yellow magic orchestra ,with their album called solid state surviver in 1979, with their original lyrics ,written by Chris Mosdell.
Was Greg Philliganes not part of Eric Clapton's band? When his name didn't sell this fine song, Clapton released a version. Please correct me if im wrong. This appeared on a Clapton album also but i like this because it's original. Thanks for posting
This isn't the original either. Lyricist Chris Mosdell wrote the lyrics for Japanese synth band 'Yellow Magic Orchestra' in 1979 for the "Solid State Survivor" album, while Ryuichi Sakamoto, the keyboardist for YMO wrote the music. Phillinganes simply did a cover, nothing more.

Awesome song, always sounds best with a strong analog synth sound leading that melody, instead of guitar. Much better :)

Love this version. No offense to Clapton's version but I can feel Greg's singing. And you gotta love the height of 80's sound and fashion (grin)
