  • i think citys are our natural habbitat as humans we are bound to think of things like tecdhnoligy, i think the real problem is we forget we are just another species in this world and we get obsolved in society and the way of living in general . i agree we are too dependent on things like pills and applinces/ we should try to separate ourselfs from civilization every once in awhile and hoan our skills and teach ourselfs independnce.

  • 2.) What I think you've touched on is moral degeneration and the institution of the market, in it's modern day form, destroying society.

I have a recommendation for you: there is an amazing documentary called The Century of the Self (maybe you've seen it?); it does a great job of describing the market in it's "modern day form." You seem to be a thoughtful and concerned person; I think you'll find the documentary quite interesting.

  • 1.) Your video is over 3 years old, possibly you don't see things the same way now as you did then, but I shall respond to this video as it is. The things you cite as suggestions for deevolution have nothing to do with deevolution because the things you cite are more American or Western social maladies. It is the lazy of the West who would want to take a pill to supress the taste of sugar; do you see what I mean? Also you did not define deevolution. What I think you've touched on is moral...

  • Yes, I am convinced we are de-evolving, or in the correct biological terms, degenerating. Many species go through a degeneration process after a boom in population. Though we are degenerating, it is still within the larger evolutionary process. The question is, how long can we continue to manipulate natural selection and keep it at bay? Population is growing. Planet ain't getting bigger. Is Malthus coming to bear?

  • Multiculturalism is the campaign to eliminate biodiversity.

  • @Anon371 how so?

  • @jj99887766 Combining the DNA of multiple ethnicities will eventually contaminate or eliminate the genetics of one from the genepool.

  • @Anon371 Oh ok, so do you think that it will advance the de-evolution process?

  • @jj99887766 Yes.

  • Natural isn't automatically better. 20 K years ago when everything was natural life expectancy was about 30 and life was miserable. Smallpox is natural and smallpox vaccine is unnatural. Which do you want? Agriculture wasn't invented until 10 K years ago and most foods we call "natural" today didn't exist for most of human history. Humans have been GM-ing food for thousands of years long before anyone knew what genes were. If you think human consumption is greedy you're free to starve yourself

  • 2. then when thier done with thier lame workout they go sip some aspartame laced coke misleadingly being poisened by Monsanto and others who are making a killing off making people sick. Its just this huge masquerade revolving aroung a dollar bill. If one considers evolution to be mankind becoming dumb, fat and diseased then no, we are not de-evolving. we are evolving into lazy, sick, stupid people who sit around and philosophize about how great things are. thanks for this vid

  • we are now more fitness conscious than ever yet diseases are on the rise. generally people don't know whats in or being done to thier food because they trust. Meanwhile they get sick or diseased and then trust big pharma. Big Pharma keeps them alive while thier quality of life sucks and the statistic for longevity misleads people into thinking everythings alright. The globo gyms have everyone brainwashed into going on elipticals instead of building muscle and the fat just drips down to thier ass

  • @THIRDEYETRAINING Diseases aren't on the rise. And people today know much, much more about what's' in their food that at any other time in human history. Up until about a hundred years ago nobody had any idea at all what was in their food. "Big Pharma" is just a bogeyman for people. Big Pharma, like anything, can do bad things and they need watchdogs, but when people use "Big Pharma" as a reflexive bogeyman the next thing you know people are refusing to vaccinate their kids. Very bad.

  • @yonomow up until 100 years ago food was natural. plant food that is. now it's loaded with artificial sweeteners, preservatives, coloring, gmo, irradiated and most people don't feel the need to know this because they were taught that this is safe. don't even get me started on the mass production, cloning of cows, etc just for greedy human consumption and bottom line of cattle and dairy industry. bon appetit

  • People are becoming more like Animals in Human form the more we grow into this world the more we change for the good and for the Animal Side, some people have started a change for a primitive stand, I myself see many people that are on the street and they have become more animalist surive and nomadic life styles is so into it's own way. many that take these changes will make it when all less fails people with poor schooling learn other ways of life and other skills that help them surive....

  • there are plenty of careers where outdoor survival skills are essential. there are plenty of people who learn these skills not because their jobs demand it but because they want to. defense forces and boy scouts/girl guides are a couple of good examples. so, "if something happened tomorrow," even though YOU probably would be screwed, mankind would be fine.

  • i think everything you said probably makes perfect sense in regards to yourself. just because you can't rub two sticks together to make a fire (there's no big trick, it's just persistence, you idiot), doesn't mean the rest of the world is in the same boat.

  • if we had it mill's way, we'd still be using horse-drawn carts, you wouldn't be getting flamed right now, and instead of a 12 hour flight from my country to yours, it'd probably be a 4 month boat trip. fuck, who wouldn't want to live in that world?

  • yonomow made some of the points i was going to make. damn him/her.

first up, i like how you assume you're smarter than your average viewer when you find it necessary to break down the quote for them. you kinda missed the point yourself, but the quote's pointless today, anyway. just reeks of a time when the church and religion ruled all, and science and the things it was achieving were new, evil and scary.

  • Lastly re. "We’re in an age when we don’t know what we’re eating in our food anymore." @ 4:35. We know more about what is in our food today than ever before. For 99.9% of human history we had absolutely no idea what was in any of our food. Nowadays people can know exactly what's in it if they choose to. We are so rich now that instead of having to do life necessities to survive, we have the luxury of sitting around and philosophizing. While we do so, we should be cognizant of why we can.

  • Re: "We have this growing dependence on technology, on medicine. What does that say about ourselves? Me personally, I don't think there's any benefit to any of this" @ 4:20. You don't? Really? For most of human history, life expectancy was about 30, there massive pain and misery there was no electricity, no indoor plumbing, no anything of 99.9% of the things you take for granted. You hit a button now and communicate with people all over the world instantly and there's no benefit to that?

  • Re. "A lot of us don't know how to start a fire, which is a basic necessity of fire in the human wilderness" @ 3:20. People in the human wilderness 20 K years ago didn't know how to work a thermostat. The reason people used rubbing sticks together to start a fire 20 K years ago instead of just turning up the thermostat is because they had no choice. If they could've just turned up the thermostat, they would have. You don't know how to build a computer and yet you use one to communicate.

  • I could write pages on this. I wish I could discuss these things in person with this poster, or anyone. But I can't so just to hit a few points. There is no such thing as de-evolution. Evolution is change in the gene pool. There is no "higher" or "lower" to it. We're moving away from a natural state of things and that is bad? That's called "appeal to nature." Things aren't automatically better or worse because they're natural. Smallpox is natural and the vaccine against it is not.

  • @xpisceanstarx you're smart and you're hot, I would totally mix my DNA with yours to help humankind =)

  • If this is true then the Human Race is fucked

  • I used to be an Atheist who used EVOLUTION to hit religious people over the head. Today I would consider myself Pagan and I now know Evolution is a LIE. A purposeful lie.

Todays human is weaker than any other animal on the planet. Todays MODERN human could not survive but in an artificial environment PROVIDED to them/us like babies.

Multiculturalism and Racial Diversity is DE-EVOLUTION. This criminal ideology that is being forced upon us is going to make unique human races, EXTINCT.

  • @parasitesarefunny you forgot the most important part humans are also dumbest in the universe that makes the pumpkin look like Albert Eintsein due to various conditions such as parental neglet, chemical posionings, inbreeding, ect. From various skull comparisons it seem that new generations the the skull is becomming flater and the brain is decreasing after each new child and mutations is also at an all time rise

  • It seems life is moving in the direction of less dependence from changes in the environment. Less dependence manifests in either ability to remain invariant to the change (like maintaining constant body temperature or building houses) or in direction of rapid adaptation to the change (like mutations and quick speciation).

Life survives by adapting. Consciousness that reasons is the ultimate adaptable system = to some bacteria, viruses. Next step is "reason better".

Real AI will replace us all.

  • Hi!

Let's get married. Have a bunch of healthy kids and when they grow up we will come back to those questions again.

    Will you marry me?

  • de-evolution can be simply put into one word....devolution

  • I have actually given this alot of thought ,though not much study. But I think it's very apparent just by reading most of the comments that people don't understand or just can't stay on topic. I've often wondered what would happen if nobody could walk into a store and buy a loaf of bread. I personally have come to the conclusion that though most would starve, or die being caught stealing. Question is, if it has happened before, how many times, and how much knowledge do we lose each time?

  • I think body builders are deevolution them selfs.

  • As per the subject you mentioned..i actually thought across those lines before. It is possible that state-ed,peoples recent dependency on what is offered by the current model of society is not only a step backwards, but a way of reinforcing dependency

The sad fact is that if society collapsed, many people who could help humanity propel itself to be independent, would prob be the people who try to preserve peace by not engaging in wars.. and would be the first to die.. humans return to barbarism

  • cause when you think of europeans for example.. a large portion of their populace must be alpha-male dominant, simply because of all the battles, via the crusades/dark ages/plagues..etc. and the ones who remain are the ancestors of people who didn't die from them

its scary to think about that.. and you also realize that they are predisposed to being a war-like race, lots of paranoia, crazy, violent, selfish.. all that comes with it..

war-like group of people who are inherently selfish, etc??

  • @dunngar

    Paranoia,crazy,violent and selfish?

We are ALL like that no matter what race we are apart of but it's only natural instinct at the end of the day!

  • I believe we may be de-evolving spiritually, the core through which every thing else de-evolves. We are de-evolving physically, a manifestation of the spiritual de-evolution. Case in point, man loses spirit, uses nuclear weapons, and the mutation of the body follows due to radiation. The only way to evolve properly is to accept Christ, or continue on the path of de-evolution. Could this be true? If I am correct, and man continues his evil, we will be slime in a few million years.

  • You are an idiot.

  • No offence

  • Spiritual de-evolution? Give me a break! She's talking about mental and physical de-evolution here, loosing touch with our origins, leaving us unable to survice in the wilderness we grew out of. And please... keep religion out of this one, believing in ghosts and goblins are not going to evolve anyone.

  • "Great" civilizations come and go; a natural cycle.

  • I feel the same way. I look at my own generation and myself and we are so ingorant on the basics of like. The "lighting-a fire" example you gave really hit the head on the nose. Everyone trys to resolve thier problesms through google and "Copy-and PAste" or information regurgitation. But how long will it be untill the people who reasearch die, and all that is left are my type of generation who just Wiki and regurgitate.. I think a "dark age" or thwart in progression could be immenent.

  • as far as evolution its all around you but in the case as it is true evolution has been replaced under its primary drive by wealth think about it

if your a girl in a poor country will you go for the guy with money or the guy who is the smartest yet poorest guy in the village even if the guy whos got money has inherited it for generations and is himself a dimwit good question ?

evolution is powered by demographics as well in a world with 6 billion dont forget that

  • yes industry may cause the body to weaken but that is minor concern

the more major concern that the human mind is being socialy engienered to de'evolve

logical thought is shuned by news media in its place is the ideology of thoughtless bias

worse this is convient for a totalitarian society do you think its far fetched?

to prove such a point one only needs to read a some history the words and common thoughts of people gone to see how fast this is happening

  • its funny. we are de-evolving, but not the way u think. we started perfect, adam and eve, but as mutations occur were getting more fed up. there is never a child born perfect, and there never has been, noone was born in the garden of eden. as for the billion of years thing, takes hours to un-brain wash u- so im gonna leave it alone, but if u want fairy tales then take them with ur false gods... mark my words its gonna suck for everyone very soon

  • Comment removed

  • Our modern, first world environment is making us weaker, lazier, over simulated, and stressed out, but then again running water, electricity, and medicine rock. We have become too dependent on technology though, and this will have bad consequences considering it wouldn't take much to bring down our civilization.

  • The problem is there are too many jocks... people value brawn over brain.

The ones who value brains will evolve to keep the ones who value brawn as slaves, maybe even as pets.

  • lmao wow .. that opinion is so biased youre suggesting that the intelligent people will be immune to evolution while the rest of the world suffers? To use an analogy when African Americans were slaves then the white man was more intelligent and vice versa. I suppose when they were freed from slavery it was because they've evolved past us ?

  • That made no sense grammatically, the point I was getting at is that human kind will be subject to divergent evolution, not that smart people will be immune to it.

    Learn to read please.

  • Learn to read please is also gramatically wrong .. thats so ironic dont u agree? i wasnt commenting on the video i was commenting on someone elses comment it just fucked up so learn to mind your own business and read a book .. u could live to be 120 years old and u still wouldnt be as smart as i am in one finger :)

  • I'm the one who has to mind my own business and read a book? Coming from someone who can't punctuate or capitalize to save their life and uses text messaging abbreviations? And going to back to the whole "mind your own business" you're the one who sent the message to me, accidentally or otherwise, so how is it not my business?

  • Hi Lori! It's an interesting point, that of devolution, that you raise. I refer you to Asimov's 'Three Laws of Robotics' and to ContraWagners vid "Robots that just like us". As far as John Stuart Mills commentary goes (and thanks for printing the quote btw), I feel it is unfair to rate him now because we've come such a long way since his time. However, I'm sure he knew that this tree had to be nourished from somewhere - including say the infuenza virus or maybe the banjo .. thanks again :)

  • good the human race sucks were the worst species ever

  • Then why don't you go commit suicide? That attitude is preventing us from advancement.

  • kind of makes u think...u never know when and how it can happen :|

  • people say humans are de evolving and becoming "dumber" this is false humans are not becoming dumber it is just the change in the ratio of low iq to high iq people this does not mean poeple are getting "dumber" just the high iq families produce less offspring than a lower iq one thus producing a low iq children, but those children will be "smarter" than their parents due to Darwinism and the survival of the strongest. so in actuality it seems like the human race is getting "dumber"

  • but even the "smart" families children are fuck ups, running around like a chicken with its head cut off. we are de-evolving. look at out tolerancias to viruses and even the defects in our children. cancer is everywhere now. look at sars, man its nothing but an advanced cold but everyone was panicking about it. my gosh the lazyness of people has become our down fall...

  • De-evolution simply is not possible in a physical/genetic sense. If you're referring to a sociological or cultural evolution, then perhaps, yes, we are de-evolving. Remember, though, that it is we who have invented the definition of progress in that regard in the first place. Just how separate these two forms of evolution are is completely unknown to me. I can only guess. And, yeah, I too would say that there is only so much one can do, but I think you underestimate what is possible.

  • That what i wa thinking, and agree completely.

  • how is it not possible, the continuse breakdown of DNA over the course of thousands of years, over and over. we breed with other ppl to gain their DNA. look at the first human form, who did he she breed with? the who did their offspring breed with? we cant do that anymore because we are so diluted we need to find other completely different sets of DNA just to reproduce normal children.

  • I take it that you aren't yet very knowlegeable of our current understanding of the mechanisms involved in evolution.

  • no i am i just cant get over the beginning part... still want that explained. coming from a one celled organism? its such a stretch that it is a religion and id rather believe what someone at least claims to have seen. evo still hasnt been seen, just because recessive genes throught breeding have been lost and we ended up with black white arab asian and everything else... thats not evolution that is done through selective genes constantly being reproduced

  • The two driving forces of evolution will always be present: reproduction with variation and selective pressure. That's all you need for evolution. It's quite simple. If reasoning became a strong reproductive disadvantage then we'd eventually lose that ability. But it's not de-evolving. It's evolving to the environment.

  • You're over-simplifying it; evolution hasn't been seen because it takes too long for immediate changes to be noticed. Unless you plan on living for anoth billion years, you won't see evolution happening, because it doesn't just happen overnight!

Only a deity would have the ability to witness evolution, and since you're not a god of any sort, you won't see it any time soon.

  • still no explanation for life

  • Evolution never made or makes any attempt to explain life's origins. In fact, origin is found nowhere in even the broad definition, that is to say not limited to biology, of evolution. Xpisceanstarx doesn't bring origins up in her video either.

  • If all that is said about evolution is true then please tell me where even more DNA comes from when all we are comes from the DNA of our past. The way I see it, we are running out of genetic code and one day the human race will end. What will happen to evolution then if it is supposed to be improving us as a species?

  • This paper details one such mechanism from a specific and observed instance.

    w(orld)w(ide)w(eb)(dot)pnas(dot)org/content/81/8/2421.full.pdf+html

  • Our species is in no way short on DNA we litterally reproduce it and throw it out all day long. We ingest proteins from plants and animals and replace our DNA with such regularity that we will never have that problem. What will happen is due to selective pressures certain Genes will be removed and replaced with ones adventageous to the system that they are in.

  • Then please explain why siblings in the past prodced offspring without negative deformaties such as downs syndrom and today they do?

  • n wat shes saying is true cause of all dis tech we have is taken away our independent nature or as in instinc if u resurch dis ull find out dat actually!!!! dat da averge human iq has decresed becuse ppl dese day arnt as interested n finding out new discoveries becuse we xepects others ta do it 4 us

  • i have a theory which may be seen as stupid but... with the lazyness of the modern man such as not hunting for food and such will humans possibly start to lose things such as certain muscles and a intresting fact is that the amount of cesarean births have increased and that is because of something like the pelvis of a women has shrunk..!!

  • post industrial de-evolution.

I found this video after deciding to make a video about death being the most important thing for humans to understand. it is the quintenses of human to accept our fate.

humans shall become extinct like all other things and we shall never evolve to the gods we so desire to be.

video girl: you have only brushed the surface of what is to come for us and what you need to understand is that love is all we have until the end. marry someone today not tomarrow. :(

  • I know I don't know anything about you, but I'm just curious...What do you believe in? And yeah. I know it's not always simply black and white. It's the shades of grey I'm interested in.

  • What I'm wondering is:

How such a bright person like yourself turned out to be anything other than an athiest, I like and support what your saying, but much of it in turn, supports athiesm. What I mean is (and I'm not saying I have infinite / unbridled knowledge) the mere fact that you acknowledge that early man discovered fire and its uses...points to you supporting darwin's theory of evolution. Now I'll admit that I'm under-educated in comparison, but I would of thought you an athiest.

  • Wow, great video post! My opinion is that mankind should continue to depend on technology as their tool to yield more results, as we always had through the agrarian and industrial ages. However, we face a problem which didn't exist before; techno-stress. Our burden is to learn how to resist and filter useless information from marketing companies, and figure out what technology in what application will be beneficial to us. Read Alvin Toffler's Future Shock & Third Wave if you have time.

  • I beleieve this is a huge problem that needs to be addresed. Mankind has gotten to the point where people who should not live and reproduce are doing just that! when a pearson passes on ther defective genes it weakens the human race as a whole. this is why we have so manny gentic disorders. now with all the advancements in medical science we are beging to see super diseases that are resistant to our drugs. not only are they resistant but they are even more deadly than before. we need help soon.

  • yeh. devolution doesn't exist since mutations occur all the time in nature and therefore evolution dose not stop. Yet natural section for humans have stopped because of developments in technology.. For example people who have glasses would have been killed off in nature and therefore there would be no nearsighted people. But this is a negative type of evolution and kills off individuals that might have positive genetic mutations

  • I totally hear you. This is going to be a global problem, I believe. However, I do believe that eventually something will happen that will force us back into the *positive* evolution that we have escaped via our technology. Catastrophes happen, civilizations collapse. This is the way of things. "The center cannot hold." At the very least, our de-evolution will eventually force us out away from the protection of the technology we currently enjoy.

  • Good thoughts, I liked it :)

  • Interesting!

  • booooring

  • good idea

  • Interesting comment considering I'm not an atheist.

  • @xpisceanstarx are you arguing that dependence on machinery is tantamount to de-evolution? if that is your question.... I dunno.... the theory of evolution, despite the misconception, isn't actually stating that there is a necessarily forwards progression to anything human subjectivity considers positive; 'survival of the fittest' is wrong; more evolution=more complexity is also wrong;

  • @xpisceanstarx evolution simply results in organisms being better adapted to their environments; nothing more; it can be the case that some organisms will become simpler in shape and anatomy as they become more adapted; parasites are superbly adapted to being parasites and they are much simpler in anatomy that on-parasites; blind cave dwellers aren't less evolved because they don't have eyes; they don't need eyes in caves;

  • @xpisceanstarx so if humans start loosing natural abilities which are being replaced by machinery, that doesn't necessarily mean humanity is de-evolving; it doesn't mean the contrary necessarily either; I only came up with this idea on the spot so ..... it's not very elaborate; one thing I can say for certain: according to the theory of evolution, humans loosing traits because of reliance on machinery is not necessarily de-evolution;

  • @xpisceanstarx

that being said, I do have one creed about the biological future of humanity which is a strong beleif and quite general; it applies here too; that is that ultimately, genetic engineering and combining organic material with technology will result in a new type of biological evolution; in my opinion, the next step to human progress is progress beyond the notions of culture, civilization technology etc and will be progress by controlled, conscious evolution; kinda like eugenics...

  • @xpisceanstarx but NOT eugenics in the sense of social Darwinism like in Sparta; no, eugenics as in we change the DNA directly; not by controlling reproduction;

    and that is a day I look forward too; If I could improve my physical and intellectual abilities by technology right now I'd do it in a heartbeat; if done of a massive scale, we might make things like greed disappear and make humanity more fair; less injustice; no more warfare, more peace; and the permanent end of idiocracy;

  • @xpisceanstarx

oh yes.... I look forward to that; I would try to be part of it, really; I have contemplated on a career in molecular biology

  • @adamantsnow12

How can you not see the cross shes wearing? Your just another "sheep" lost in the crowds of our society who's only sense of direction is from the television.

  • @adamantsnow12

Indeed! Atheists are well known for adorning themselves with Christian symbolism like her cross pendant.

  • i don't think, we are "de-evolving" i say we have evolved into a state were the natural is no longer our survival grounds for food and so fourth, but the civilised and concrete world. We have stepped out of the trees and into the streets and suburbs and neighbour hoods. we have in a sense adapted to this and if this were to go then yes there would be a massive consequence far beyond we know

  • Excellent video and excellent theme.

I liked the quote, and I liked your explanation and discussion afterwards. It also makes me think that I'm de-evolving as I get older and that I personally have to do something about myself de-evolving - or there will be consequences for myself. Is it all about society/societies/the west dumbing down or is it also about the individual too? I think both but we can only really deal with ourselves.

  • One benefit of modern technology is that it has more than doubled the life expectancy of humans.

  • Alexpworal

is that a benefit? whats the benefit of doubling something that aparently has no meaning because it has no will? AS A SOCIETY this is true, i have however met MANY people who would rather die than conform to society, and despite what many of you are thinking, as you read this, not all of them are young adults or teenagers. but MOST of the people i have met take everything someone says to them and appliues it to themselves without thinking, and i have to say ALL of them were religious

  • Well, if the statement you just made applies to you, and you feel that life apparently has no meaning, you should probably just kill yourself.

  • only to increase cancer, mental diseases, cause overpopulation and the gradual destruction of nature, all for one thing...power: through putting massive amounts of money in a few people's pockets a few people can attempt to obtain absolute power

  • what has happened is that for the last say 300yers. people have been practicing egoDriven acts. Selfish, Controling of everything on this planet for self gain with No consideration of how their actions affect the planet or others. the ego is also Close Minded n has No Rational or Logic.

so every generation has become more n More n MORE egoDriven.

that also means more n More Dumber. as Close Minded means little even basic intelligence gets in. that's DeVolution.

    more on mi CHNL

    PEACE

  • Ok...

Evolution just means to get "better at", and every generation has the ability to get better at whatever the previous generation did.

what people don't understand is, that this happens with everything. meaning that if A generation is practicing something "BAD". the next generation will do this BAD thing better. just like if a generation practices ignorance or being Close Minded. the next generation will get better at being Ignorant or Close Minded. see...

    Shall i continue.....

  • i'm a boyscout so i could at least survive for like 5 year's if anything like that happend

  • The answer is very simple, mankind will never stop evolving, but evolution has its dead ends.

  • ''churches erected?'' o.O

  • emotion causes our devolution.

  • Paradise Lost - Part 2

  • ur hott does that make me low iQ?

  • Man is definitely de-evolving himself, from the brain. The proof? A machine you're sitting in front of right now, sometimes all day. Don't believe me? Then why are some people here doing nothing else than spamming? That's certainly not intelligent.

  • You know, when you said that, it reminded me of the time the power went out after a hurracane in Florida. Its amazing how the whole world seems to stop. People (including me unfortunately) don't seem to know what to do without tv, computers and basically electricity. I mean how many people write things or read books anymore without being forced to?

  • Three.

  • I am becoming an electrical engineer.

My boys will know how to use modern tools as well as ancient. People like me are everywhere, like on farms and in the army. If the doomsday scenario happens, we will evolve on the backs of the ignorant.

    Sounds awful huh?

So what are YOU doing to make yourself and your family Resilient?

Or are your efforts purely philosophical?

  • i wish we could de-evolve.. back into monkeys. the world would be a better place =]

  • to wake up refer to noam chomsky's comments on john stewart mill's ideas on east indians implying "these barbarians dont need schools..etc".....what a self-righteous animal he was....was he wrong? now indians r training white engineers....what does that tell u?

  • one reason is teens get away with alot of stuff. 60-70 years ago you could beat your student with a ruler or what ever, you cant do that now. if it was legal to hurt your student, teens like me and others would our homework, never give in something late, or get d's and f's

  • im not one of those i have like a 3.8 average not joking.

  • physiological devolution for sure, but i don't think its time to panic, mainly, the media only shows the worst of man, and thats what we constantly see. If you want a real outlook, go outside... the ones that are furthering man, are behind our view...

  • Now, to debunk the automation argument:

The philosophical problem with the automation argument is the question of "what is gratification & fullfilling." We can be perfectly happy accomplishing great feats with our minds (work etc) and exercising our bodies in a gym, practicing yoga etc instead of building our own houses and farming (which the former I have as a hobby.)

  • A simple racial comparison is as follows: China patriarchy = 5000 years old. Caucasian Patriarchy = 2000+ years old. African Patriarchy = 0-500 years old.

Which of those 3 "races" has the most disciplined people with an ancient history rich with natural remedies that heal the mind, body, and spirit? Which of those 3 groups is in the top earning ethnic group in America?

    The Chinese.

  • Oh, and also: which of those 3 groups is least violent?

  • xpisceanstarx - you are exactly correct, society is regressing, but for reasons most are unaware of.

The best answer lies in a free online read called the "garbage generation." The 1 thing universally responsible for human advancement beyond the stone age was ensuring children had a longer childhood by an artificial construct called the patriarchy. The Matriarcy has now overpowered western civilization, and is regressing us back by breeding societies "worst."

  • Very interesting to know that people are reading Mills, the concept of Liberty needs to be revisited. Means of control by corporate sector are alienating our mental and political liberties.

  • I think the human race is devolving and you can tell by how far women have fallen in this media age. I am extremely concearned about the second nature or virtual reality that we are living in. Where will humanity be in 20years of raising kids on 6 hours a day of sexist, racist, violent video games, porn, and shock radio. I fear some kind of matrixish distopia future where all women for sale. isnt that what jsm was saying?

  • I am a big fan of john stuart mill because of his great feminist tracts in his book the subjection of women.

  • One more thing, I think it particularly interesting that you quote JSM, an economist, rather than an evolutionist, for so many of the problems you mention (irrational use of resources) involve the Production Era or OverProduction Era in which we live. I also think its unsustainable, and that it is an economic problem or rather a practical problem that has its roots in our philosophical views (is this Earth "ours" by divine right?)

  • Of course, dependence on technology is also a risk if it disables us from doing otherwise normal tasks, like running - and hence the ridiculous contraptions like treadmills (for more on this you might care to read Jean Baudrillard.)

  • The core of JSM's quote, IMHO, is that freedom is what sets man apart from machinery - a beautifully romantic and also ethical idea that is also explored in great detail by H. Bergson in the Immediate Data of Consciousness Essay.

  • I don't think that the fact that the wealth of accumulated knowledge is larger than what any particular person can hold is necessarily de-evolutionary (referring to your example of any one of us being able to start a fire or make a pencil from scratch). Our enormous creative talent shows itself in technology and for all practical purposes means that we can continue to evolve without nature, for instance we can fly without growing wings.

  • You have excellent mastery of your eyebrows.

  • Humans are at the top of the food chain. We completely populate this tiny and thoroughly explored planet. How much more -can- we evolve? Is a halt and peak in progression seen as "devolving" in relative comparision to the entire human time line?

  • art and technology in Greek are the same word insofar as both are a revealing.

technology itself is nothing technological; thinking of the essence of technology constitutes our separation from being lost in it, and in this we find our freedom and humanity.

  • we've never known much. the problem i see is "progression" - nothing progresses without a set context within which a progression can be said to occur.

you're right, technology is setting a context of our relation to the world that puts women and men in a progression. I'm not at all anti-technology, but our orientation towards technology is something being lost in our increasing involvment WITHIN technological frameworks for the world.

  • An interesting video... rather than comment on it I'll refer you to someone much smarter than me - check out his video: johnhartung2 descendants forever --- I tend to lean towards his way of thinking.

  • Many thanks - he's given me more to consider.
