My father, Grandpa Mike, was riding in Arlington, Texas on his motor scooter in April 4 years ago and he got hit by a car too. His shoulder hit the pavement and he was in shock. His right arm was hurt really bad. The young woman was in shock from what happened she didn't return to work for 5 days. He was 80 at the time and it took a long time for him to recover. He passed away on February 15 of this year from diabetes complications and he was sick for a long time.
Kids can learn simple first aid to include applying pressure on a wound, cleaning the wound, heimlich, and even cpr simple techniques, and calling 911, don't underestimate the age.
Kids need to know how to protect themselves from strangers, first aid, cleanliness, and thinking elsewise is cheating them out of protecting themselves. I would rather them learn this than some of the other stuff being shoved on them.
at the schools in QLD austalia were not allowed lollies (sweets) because there unhealthy so were only allowed healthy treats which is really dumb. i hope ur ok now
Omg, I totally agree. When I see junior high and high school aged kids from the 80s and 90s, they look so old--they look like adults. Maybe it was the big poofy hair.
I think kids were also more mature and responsible back then than they are now.
Nobody thought of helmets when I was a kid.. Hell, you could buy bicycles right here in our little hick ass town, skates, skateboards. Pre-Roller blade era. No helmets.. At all. Kmart, walmart, etc.. None of them sold helmets. You had to go to like a specialty shop to buy a fricken bicycle helmet. Now they all sold elbow and knee pads. Save the skin, not the brain. I'd rather get stitches, than lay in a bed for 30 years drooling.
I miss this program, I wish they would release this on DVD, Keep on voting yes for this program to be released on DVD.Furthermore I wish they would put this back on the air
Something similar to the Jolly Rancher incident in this video happened when I was in elementary school (first grade, I believe). Some lady would give out Jolly Ranchers to the kids. One of the kids was playing football with one in his mouth, and ended up choking and having the heimlich maneuver done on him. This lady was told to stop giving out jolly ranchers after this happened, but she would still "smuggle" them in the school to give to the kids.
I remember when I choke on Jolly Rancher when I was little. I choke on the old one which was hard, square and had pointly edges not the new one which they sell now. I was scared to eat that candy for a while even when they change the look I was still scared. But now I'm fine since I'm much older now. Thinking about jolly ranchers remind me of that.
I worked on the production of this segment as a production assistant...I'd never seen this episode until today; kind of bummed though, because one of the things I had to do on this one was create some fake vomit out of oatmeal and such (with some grape flavor for the Jolly Rancher color), and it apparently didn't make the final cut.
The one about the girl without a helmet was "No Helmet Horror" from 427. That one isn't on youtube. The one where the boy saved his grandma from choking was "Siblings Save Gram" from 401 (there's a link to it under this video).
Just a quick suggestion: Also buy your kids KNEE PADS AND SHIN PADS and, if they'll wear it (young kids probably will), a high-visibility vest (even for daytime)
Hmmmmm? Jolly Ranchers, it sucked when they got rid of the Lemon flavored ones and replaced them with Blue Raspberry flavored ones. Jolly Ranchers are a hazard for your health.
Gees, times have changed. Teachers today can't leave the classroom for a second. Cuz if something were to happen when you weren't there, you're liable. I don't even trust leaving my 8th graders alone--I can't even think leaving first graders these days alone. Kids just seemed more responsible when I was younger.
vote on the dvd release of rescue 911 to come out on dvd,at tvshowsondvd, com ,it is free ,rescue 911 has 462 votes so far ,if we all vote it will come out ,i had been working on a show called third watch to come out on dvd,it was the 4 most wanted show on there and they just said that it is coming out on dvd,so please lets get some votes on there to get rescue 911 in our dvd players, don't vote more then once or make more then one account they will delete all votes if you do
That must have been freaky for Easton!!! One time in 7th grade I was at lunch and I almost choked on a pretzel, and I thought it would get stuck. Can anyone relate to the choking segment in this episode of Rescue 911?
Actually, this segment is making a reference to "Siblings Save Grandma" from the 100 Lives Saves special. That's the segment that inspired the teacher to have the nurse come in and teach the kids about first aid.
Hey Allgood, do you have the episode they are talking about-the one with girl w/ no helmet? If it's the one I'm thinking of, the girl was riding with her brother, she crossed the street, got hit and hit the curb and there was gasoline leaking so some neighbors moved her away from the street.
Its amazing how Rescue 911 taught people its a shame it's off the Air it can still continue to teach people how to save lifes or what to do in case of an emergency.
I wish they could have briefly explained, maybe in a few words on the screen, how the lives of all the people shown at the end of each segment were saved by Rescue 911.
this is one of my favorite eps of the series, cause it shows all people how to save others, and we know that we can be proud of what we have done to safe a life when someone is choking
candy is quite dangerous for kids. When I was younger I choked on a huge peppermint candy ball at a doctors office...
