Had a young gopher snake in my yard this past couple of days (SE Carson City). Tonight, he was up at the next house and I had to chase away two 11yr old boys who were harassing him. Maybe I should have let them get bitten. But then the snake would probably get killed by gun or shovel.
I've always been a critter person, I was trying to do the snake a favor. I've been bitten by a garter snake, it's not fun because they don't let go easily. Gopher snakes have worse attitudes. Plus they're a lot bigger. I had a dumb dog years ago decide to put his snout near a 10-footer and he got nipped on the nose...it was hilarious. Snakes are great animals if you respect them. If you don't, they'll let you have it.
I kill every snake in Nevada that I find. You should've killed it.
