  • your video are so help full i just had to favor and scribe to it. i'v learned some thing things and techniq from you. thx.

  • Thank you for this video Roger.

  • subbed. sub back?

  • When do you think it's to late bass fishing in nor cal

  • @Bass408fishing mid November things really slow down. You can catch fish but fishing is tuffer! In Northern Oregon I normaly hang it up early November.

    Roger

  • Very nice Roger, a method that will have its benifits even here in the UK, thanks for sharing.

  • Much better video!

  • hey, ive seen you on ifish. subscribed!

  • well, shake it quite a bit in early summer and the let it sit, and then i will pick it up slowly and drag it by lifting my rod tip, then i will drop it again and then i will quiver it, re

    peat

  • I notice you shake the pole quite a bit. Is that a pretty normal practice? I have heard of barely moving, to moving it like you do. I jave been skunked alot from barely moving the tip and I am wondering if that is why.

  • @2004yamahar6 I normally shake the drop shot a bit less than the video, but I do shake it like that at times. Bass will move to the bait from the sound and sight of the dropshot rig bring shaken. Try to change from time to time and find what the bass like that day.

    Roger

  • caught 3-4lb smallies on this rig with trigger x minnow

  • what are you using for a rod and reel in this and what is the action and taper on the rod?

  • @NGUdOlLoFf I use Daiwa's Team Daiwa Tierra Spinning rod, Model # TDTR 602MHFS, it is med heavy and has a fast tip. It is 6 foot 6 inches and it really fits my fishing style.

    THANK! Roger

  • @NGUdOlLoFf shamono spinning reel

  • @exbassguide thank you roger i appreciate the quick response

  • Nice clear video what are you shooting with.

  • @echo1er I havse a canon camera, it is a powershot A11001S.

    Thanks Roger

  • @echo1er keep up the videos. Do you use any bait casters.

  • does this work for summertime bass and for smallies?

  • @agentYJGP It works fantastic for summer smallies and it works good for l. m. bass in the summer! fish current seams and points for smallmouth. Fish pilings and docks for l.m. bass.

    Roger

  • good videos man, good tips, pretty thorough, not rushed and missing stuff, what are some other good plastics to put on a drop shot? could you even use a live nightcrawler?

  • man dude that caught me some fish thank u

  • hey im fishing lake geneva off of the pier and im using a 5 inch small bass color worm and over there there are alot of weeds so i fish it with a texas rig drop shot. I can not seem to catch any fish even though im fishing very close to shade. I use a 2/0 hook, red, and with a 1/4 round weight. My technique is like yours but i dont seem to attract any fish. can you please tell me what is wrong. thank you.

  • @devilstix411 Fish under the dock and try a three inch senko. there is less weeds under the docks.

    Roger

  • it waaaas fantaastic! thank you so much for such wonderfull and usefull , lively made explanation! i really liked it

  • would u recommend drop shot in early June?

  • @vasterhaninge A drop shot works all year long! YES USE IT!!!!!

    Roger

  • Hey Roger can you make a video for me please?

  • As always Rodger, thank you so much for your videos! Could you make a video talking more about all the equipment you use for drop shotting? (Line, rod, reel, etc.)

  • Quick and informative. Keep em coming.

  • You can rig it weedless texas rig and using a weedless hook with a clip over the hook point.

    Roger

  • good video thank you but can you rig it weedless? and do the same thing because i would assume you would get many snaggs doing this technique

  • Thanks for telling us your hook size!!

  • so this rig DOES work from shore? and effectively? And do you recommend using a spinning reel? because i could see how a baitcaster Jussstt wouldn't do the job here

  • @FishinTheVille YES> YES> YES>

Roger It works very well from shore and spinning gear works very good too!

    Roger

  • Merci beaucoup

  • thank you man, i'll see what i can come up with!

  • 700 bass! wow man. ive been on the ice after smallmouth for the past 2 weeks.. cant seem to catch em. do you have any tips for bass through the ice? thanks

  • @doubleshotgun02 I have never fished through the ice but in cold water I would look for a rocky area that drops of in to deeper water. Bass like to move vertical in the winter.

    Roger

  • 700 bass! wow man. ive been on the ice after smallmouth for the past 2 weeks.. cant seem to catch em. do you have any tips for bass through the ice? thanks

  • Irishosh, thx very much for the help, I'm gonna definitely try that this year!! I also picked up a tungsten jig with the paca trailer, can't wait to try that also!!

  • Sweet! Thanks for the reply!!

  • Great video for the beginner like myself! One question tho, the lake I fish has a ton of weeds, right up to the surface in majority of the lake! Will this rig still work in weedy waters? If not what would you recommend? Thx

  • @liveTwoFish The drop shot does not work in weeds very well. Try top water like frogs or buzz baits early.

    Roger

  • @liveTwoFish hey...i have the same problem on one small lake i fish....if topwater doesnt work throw a weightless 7inch worm, i prefer a berkley power worm, or texas rigged with a 1/16 ounce bullet weight on light flourocarbon line and spinning tackle....a great trick i found is the net bait paca craw. the bait is hollow so u can slip a 3/8 ounc wieght inside the plastic craw with worrying about weeds getting caught on the weight. and texas rig it weedless. hope this helps....kevin

  • much seaweed at my location but will try it. thx

  • Good video

  • i love it!!!

  • Hi Thanks for the Tips! I know this will help me later Thanks man !

    Roger (NOOB !)

  • how do you rig that up i am fishing a man made pond and used alot of different lures and spinners and still haven't got a hit one fish in the morining and afternoon and late night and still nothing please help thank

  • @nissanmaxiumYouTub the internet is full of information on rigging this set up.

Roger I tryed to post a link but this web site will not allow this.

    Roger

  • @nissanmaxiumYouTub I find do better when i nose hook watever im using, it lets the bait move alot more

  • this is my favorite way to fish plastics... but i do perfer using mosquito hook instead.. very very helpful video for the newbies looking to try this technique... the thing i dont do is hold the line like in the video... thats new to me... but i will try this!!! thx ex!!!

  • thanks bassnager ill try it out buddy!!

  • will this work in night fishing?

  • I have a question,

I'm 14 and I fish in Prospect Park for catfish and large mouth bass,

will this same tip work with catfish?

And I am using s Medium action 4 Lb line,

Will live bait like minnows also work?

  • @Finalflash96 Yes it can work in lots of ways for lots of kinds of fish!

    Roger

  • That is just a killer technique! The only problem is it almost works TOO GOOD! Now I always have a wacky senko tied on ready to go if the bite is slow. You might say it is my crutch . . . maybe at the expense of me further developing my skills in other techniques. Nonetheless, it save more than a few days on the water for me. Thanks man. Keep those vids coming . . . IMHO best bass tips on youtube!

  • hey Roger can you show an Up close view of that rig, pretty new rig to me. thanks Rogers sorry I'm a novice

  • Good info, thanks for sharing man!

  • I am going fishing tomorrow. I will use this tip. Thanks!

  • does it work in saltwater too ?

  • @apnaus heck if I know:)

    Roger

  • @apnaus I've caught a couple of sand bass using this technique, I was fishing deadbait off a jetty and was kinda bored, drop shot a worm and caught me a sand bass.

  • again!!! this is the best damn answer i've found using a drop shot senko!!! thanks bro!!!

  • are you across from Arlington? or downriver a bit?

  • ive only ever fished right up on the shore for smallmouths, how far out can they be found?

  • @elconcador I have landed small mouth in one foot of water on the bank. I have landed them out in the mid-river. I have slammed them 10 feet off shore in 60 feet of water. It is not shore it is current and good staging locations, The bass will be in the current seam more than on the point most of the time. look for current seams coming off points that drop into 15 to 20 feet of water for places that hold big numbers of bass in one spot. I have landed over 500 bass this year!!!

    Roger

  • good info do u have any suggestions on how to use drop shot in an aqueduct for stripers

  • @666Eagleone Sorry I cant help you on that one:)

    Roger

  • hey thanks for the tips i just learned this. But do u have any info on how to use the drop shot in an aqueduct ?

  • @666Eagleone same way just dont drag it as much, keep it in a small area for as long as possible

  • what knot do you use??

  • @vidsneaker285

Check out one of my last videos I just made. It shows you my COOL knot.

    Roger

  • hey, I fish a very weedy lake in the summer that gets a pretty good amount of fishing pressure weekly. I was looking for a new finesse way to catch fish and this looks great but the weeds at some points are three feet off the bottom. Should I use a longer leader to the weight or around a 12 inch one like you were using?

    Thanks.

  • this is some good info. Thanks for the vid.

  • nice job man! keep wackin' em

  • ay roger i got a question now i know the dropshot technique extremely well and i was at a pond a few days ago i was dropshotting with a 6 inch roboworm wich i think work great in colder conditions i went to this pond and caught 5 largemouth biggest 4 poundes and 1 smallmouth i went back a few days later and i tried my same technique and i caught nothing same day conditions and the water warmed up why werent they hitting??

  • Thanks man! Great info! I'll need to do that in my tournament next week! Its cold at the lake I'll be fishing at so, I'll give it a try!

  • I used to fish with this technique on the Willamette just down from the Harrisburg bridge. I agree with you, its a great technique for bank fishing. I used to catch 2 or more every time I went fishing.

Ha ha ha I remember one day I caught 7 trout in an hour an a half. Hell of a day! (tossed 'em all back)

  • largmouth??/

  • Gr8 info, thanx! :-)

  • hey Roger. You have awesome videos do you ever fish in washington near umatilla or plymouth.

if you've fished near tricities let me know of any spots you might know of. the columbia, snake and yakima all run through here.

  • Roger i just wanted to say i watched this video and not an hour after i was out on the lake using this same rig with a black zoom 6 inch worm and i nailed 3 3pound bass it was great i have never used drop shot before but i love it already! thanks alot i enjoy the videos!

    ryan

  • Thanks Bro. Good info, I'm going to try this tomorrow.

    John

  • gr8 stuff there Roger

  • Thanks Roger.

  • you would use the palomar not with this rig right?

i like to use a 3 way swivle and about 2 feet of line to my sinker and the length of the pole im using for the line that goes to my bait

  • One of my favorite ways to fish. I caught an 8 pounder while drop shottting. I also use swimbaits and catch plenty.

  • thanks roger... but wat small lure do u suggest??

  • 3 inch senko!!!!!! small topwater lures like a rapala.

  • hey, i have a question, so i fish at a lake where u could see the basses inside the water, everytime i cast something in there, they'll stare at it then just swim away, i tried gulp, buzzbaits, jigs, spinnerbaits, frog, worms, leeches, and they won't take anything. wat do u suggest i do?

  • if you can see them they can see you. They are not smart but they are not dumb too. make longer casts. Fish at first light and on cloudy days. use smaller lures and you will start catching them.

    Roger

    Roger

  • nice vid tanx !!

    tight lines from germany

  • ok i have been getting a lot of hits but when i start reeling them in they get off of the hook a lot of the time. do you have any pointers? i'm positive they are small mouths, and i don't think the fish are too big.

  • The problem is in the hookset. With an open hook you reel and sweep into them. You do not need to do a hook set like you do with a texas rigged work. the fish are coming off because your hookset is to week or to fast and strong. A sweeping hook set is best. REEL DOWN BEFORE SETTING THE HOOK. make sure your hook point is sharp, if not change it out.

    Roger

  • well i am kinda new at bass fishing so how exactly do you rig it up??

  • me 2 i used 2 fish 4 cat

  • what exactly are you doing when you are grabbing the string?

  • it helps me feel the fish pick up the bait.

Not a great habit, but it helps sometimes.

    Roger

  • When he casts? That's how you have to cast a spinning rod.

  • what kind of knot do you use to tie the hook for drop shot?

  • palimar (sp?) knot ALWAYS!!!!!

  • great vid ...you always seem to have the answers im lookin 4

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!

  • thx for the tips

    Keep fishin!

  • what color should i use when the water is fairly chilly still in early summer? i've been using watermelon/redflake n it works. also how many ounces should the weight be?

  • black and blue or browns work very good.

As for the weight use as little as you can. If you are fishing thick cover then use up to 1/2 oz or more if you must to get down to the fish.

    Roger

  • You rock my friend!...thanks for the great tips...I used drop shot for the first time yesterday...and I can see why it works so well...not a snag all afternoon either..sweet!

    Thanks again!

    Benjamin

  • i love your videos

  • Thank you!

    I try

  • You are awesome. Thanks for the tips, i am now going to go fishing, wish me luck.

  • Hope you got a monster!

    Good luck!!!!!!!

    Roger

  • another great video.

    1. is your pace/retrieve/shakey really that fast normally?

    2. what program allows you to do the bubbles on the vid?

    3. senko color preference by depth?

  • no not that fast just trying to show the motion. Some times the bass like it that fast but you need to adjust to what the fish like at the time.

Anotation are done by clicking on the red box on the upper right corner of your video.

The number one thing about color is can the fish see it well with out being to bright to not look natural. I go with white at first light then I move to chartruce tipped baits as the sun comes up then switch to browns and greens as the sun is on the water .

    Roger

  • Thanks for the response, please keep the video's comming.

  • hello l love you videos l am 13 and just geting into bass fishing and l am wondering what would be a good line in lb thanks

  • 2 lb is 1 kg

  • well no 2 lb is very light line but maybe 6 lb - 12 lb

  • The line I use is STREN MagnaThin. It is a very thin line but very strong. As for pound test:

    plastic worms 8 pound test

    Crank baits 10 pound test

Fishing heavy cover 14 pound test.

Just remember to retie you line after you see any damage to the last three feet of line. I also use fire line for flipping heavy cover. Thanks!

    Roger

  • are yo zuri lure good for these bass fishing. the thing is i try to fish them with live bait ie small fish. but i have never tried with lures i fish near you Gibraltar south of europe lol thanks

  • If the bass are active or the reaction bite is good, That is the time to use hard baits. If the bass are not active (or you are not getting many bites) then soft plastic baits work better. I have got large mouth bass and stripers on Yo Zuri lures. I think they are good lures! but I catch much more bass on soft plastic!!!!

    Roger

  • Is this setup mainly used for smallies or have you fished largemouths with this also?

  • The drop shot is great for smallmouth bass and it works very good for large mouth bass too. It works great in cool water, you can keep the bait infront of the fish a long time. It works good for fishing around docks and on points.

    Thanks for asking!

    Roger

  • what months of the year does drop shot work the best? I live in northern Indiana. Thanks man!

  • for smallmouth bass, March - November is great.

For Largemorth the spring time is the best for me.

    Thanks for asking!

    Roger

  • can you catch big bass in the middle of the day?

  • Yes I have landed big bass at all times of day. But I have better luck in the morning and the late afternoon. And so then is the time I focus on fishing the most.

    Roger

  • thanks a lot.

    great vid

  • why dont you ever use baitcasters?

  • I have baitcasters but spinning just fits my fishing style the best.

    Roger

  • Roger Luce The water in this video is the Columbia River. It is a GREAT small mouth river!!! 80 miles east of Portland Oregon

  • Show us some lures you would use for my dirty Texas water.

  • In the spring use jig and craw worm and Chartreuse color spinner bait. In the summer try a Chartreuse colored crank bait. Fish early in the morning! bump the crank bait into rocks or stumps. pitch senkos into downed wood or skipp under docks. early and late tra a black buzz bait. Good Luck!!!!!

    Roger

  • nice, im learning how to dropshot

  • Awesome Roger... Thank you soo much for the great vid!

  • Like the notations. This is the best use of them I've seen.

  • you say you buy your senkos online? if so wat is the website called?thanks roger your videos are very good and helpfull. catch one for me.

  • Alluringbait on line

  • Do you fish a round weight, or a cylinder style weight?

I fish a round weight from a boat, and cylinder weight from shore, which tends to slide over rocks and shale, mud bottom, etc. When I fish from the bank, I lose a lot of round weights.

  • I use hollow core pencil lead and split shots for drop shot weights.

    Thanks for asking!

    Roger

  • size 4 octapus hooks

  • what size hook do you use

  • I have added Annotations to some of my videos. Do you like them or would you like me to remove them. Thanks for your input!

    Roger

  • I like them. Keep up the great videos. I'm not big on drop shots but my father kills me with them, I will have to try them out more often with those 4 inch senkos.

  • Try the 3 inch senkos and you will kill them!!!!!

    Roger

  • thanks man, now i know a rig i can fish off shore.

  • one hint.....save some money....skip the senko and use a 6 inch Mann's Jelly Worm.....cheap, great colors (15).....cut off an inch or two of the head or tail....which ever....and you have a 10 cent great soft plastic 4 inch worm for your drop shot...make sure you squirt some powerbait goop on it....

  • The bait I have had my best success is the senko and I paid 10¢ so I will use the best bait even if is is a few cents more.

A good place to by baits is AlurringBaits on line!!!!!!

  • Good job Roger

  • Yes it is a Senko type bait. The colors I use are: white - very early

    Browns and greens - mid-day

bright colors with off colored water

  • are you fishing senkos, what colors.

  • Good tips... nothing can beat that drop shot for bass when fishing deep.
