  • though tendulkar outshines ponting and lara in terms of most runs, most centuries and almost every record the game has to offer, theres one thing ponting will have that's greater than what the other two have. lara and tendulkar didn't shine with the captaincy but ponting did, he is the most successful captain in the history of the game, test and odi and the most successful australian batsman since bradman and thats why i think he is the best minus ashes losts and losts in india

  • hahahahahhaah!!!!! LARA IS THE BEST BATSMAN!..glen must pick tendulkar! he HATES LARA's GUTS!

  • Sachin is better than lara, ponting, viv richards, kallis, bradman etc. He is the best batsman.

  • I have only 1 question, do we watch cricket for entertainment or for stats? well 4 me it's entertainment cuz wen Lara enters da criss you know u r gonna get ur moneys worth.Watching lara bat is like watching a jet li fight scene it's pure action packed

  • SACHIN TENDULKAR is the BEST

    DONALD Bradman - 2nd

    BRIAN LARA - 3rd

  • Comment removed

  • Better record and average. Answer is Tendulkar.

And why is ponting in between these 2?

  • statistically speaking Sachin Looks better however sachin hasn't even scorerd over 300 runs in an innings yet. Lara can put on a marathon innings with scores like 400 and 501. In their own right they better than each other in different ways. If i had to chooses though i'd go with Lara

  • and as far as test cricket is concerned we can also have jacques kallis in race, for me he is better than bothin sachin n lara ,his avg is better than both and also he has taken near abt 250 wickets so his contribution is much much more as compared to other 2

  • ponting for sure, there isn't any player in this world who knows how to win better than ponting

  • @kingkrypton20 lols really please tell me how many matches he has won in last 5 years... even cant even able to take his team to semi finals lols..

2-0, 2-0 loss to india 3-1 loss in ashes... lols.. what a match winner he just use to win because of great team he had....

  • i think that it is not easy to who is better btwn sachin &lara.pointing not even deserve to compare with such legend................

in test may be lara is little ahead.but in odi sachin is much more ahead than lara.

another thing is that sachin have to bear the expectations of m1 billion people

  • i am in no place to question Wasim Akram's judgment

  • Sachin....100 %..then comes Lara...

  • i think we can close the debat on lara vs sachin. i know it boils he blood of aussies to hear that ponting does not even figure in the debate.

anyway we can close the debate by saying tendulkar is the favourite of the classes and the indians. lara th favourite of the masses.

  • @36pratham he's not though is he?! A real class act for the last decade and to score that weight of runs whilst putting those bowling shifts in as well, phenomonal!!!

  • Jacques Kallis! If he had batted as many innings as Sachin he would be the leading run scorer in world cricket! Best average as well!!

  • @bfjd jack kallis is a minow or weak bowling attack bassher he strugle against quality bowling attack he is medicore player only stupids can compare him to lara and sachin.... both of them are class ahead

  • SACHIN IS THE GOD OF WORLD CRICKET...thats it.

  • Sachin and Lara............................

  • Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara are of the same league!! And if we think about class, Sachin Tendulkar is a notch above Brain Lara!! But if you take into your accounts everything like consistency, fitness etc.. there is no match for Sachin, there was no match for Sachin and likely to have no match in near of far future....He is just a synonym of the game of cricket!!! Ponting!! Great player no doubt but he is neither Lara nor Sachin...they are in their own leagues!!

  • @souav agree with u sachin and lara are equal in tests while lara is better in terms of class while sachin is better in terms of consistency longetivity his passion and hunger for game... its stupid to compare two such legends of game...

  • @Imrankniazi Ponting doesnt stand near SRT or BCL in technique and grace, and they in turn dont stand close to Ponting being the top batsman and captain of a team both invincible and relics, he had knack of delivering when things were at stake, even see the wc 2011 match

SRW was the crisis man, and despite a poor technique against fast bowling it is his grit which made him STAND when others collapse not in best way but with best results,

I like all 4, SRT best, Lara greatest, SRW grittiest,

  • @Imrankniazi (CONTD)and Ponting showing Lara's grace in his drives and pulls, Sachin's persistence in piling runs, Waugh's dogma in standing when the team looks up to his leader (World Cup 2003 final, World Cup 2011 India match, Adailade Test against India 2008,India 2008 1st match, and few more)

Please spare a thought for Kallis and Dravid also when considering the greatest in thie era, often its not your class but your grades that define your career and they have outgraded their own class :)

  • well i guess taking into count the mental pressure that Lara had to take due to his team (fighting, no gr8 batsman) wot he achieved was awesome.... tendulkar on the other hand has to take care of his batting alone.... n please dont name ponting with greats like sachin n lara

  • @MyQasimali wrong till 200 sachin was also lone warrior for the team... just lara till 2001 sachin also had quite weak team its only from 2001 that laxman dravid showed there class....

from period 1989 to 2000 sachin avg 56 lara just 51 so a big diffrence...

  • @36pratham Sachin is a great player before 2000 and after 2000 as well :) .... but the fact is that he atleast always had a team (unity and all tht stuff) which unfortunately lara never had

  • please don't even compare Ponting with the two legends: Sachin and Lara.

Both Sachin and Lara were the one's who crafted their way through the heavy balling line-up of Australia and Pakistan, while Ponting never had to do that.

  • i don't like tendulkar ...nor lara ....nor ponting....to me chris gayle is the man

  • plez dont compare Ponting to these 2 greats like Sachin n Lara

Ponting is a shameless cheat would do any thing to bat even after getting out...

he is kind a batsman who will still wait on the pitch even after getting bowled out becoz he believes until and unless the umpire dos not raise the fuck off finger 2wards him he wont walk........... fucking kangaroo shit

  • An edge goes to sachin as ponting is a bit scratchy against spin, but still covers through his astounding fielding, still yet sachin has 150 wickets to show

  • i must say both men are great in there own way consistency definitely sachin but entertainment and a hunger for big scores lara took the belt in that round.

  • Ponting is a cheat , he can never be the best ...

  • I think both are great but for me i think lara is the greatest batsmen iv seen and i do think sachins average aswell as some of the other batsmen of recent days whos averages are higher is because of the bowling attacks going round are not as strong as they where during the nineties when every team possesed some great fast bowlers and pitch conditions also favour batsmen these days so much easier for batsmen to score alot of runs these days!

  • @eazzymo well dude u are wrong just check at cricinfo filter 1989 to 2000

    sachin avg 56

    lara avg 51..

and dont forget.. when sachin debuted he was 16 year old kid... brian lara debuted when his age was 21

still sachin has better avg... there is no other player who got even chance to play test cricket at of even 19 or 20....

  • i am an Indian and Lara is my fav from long time, i had a debate with my friend against record of heydan and lara in test highest.. after heydan crossed laras record. i got a serious argument with my friend that lara will break that record again with 400 runs n he said no he is old now and again i said seriously no he can and just after a week he did 400... he was my fav from so long, i love the way he bats... but i love the consistency of my God sachin, i hope he will takeover all records...

  • Comment removed

  • wasim akram says lara is better...cuz he is a left armer and lara, being a left hander can play him easier than right handers. muthiah murali said lara played him better...cuz to lara it is like leg spin bowling to him, as murali is an off break bowler, and he is a right arm spin bowler...and leg spin is easier to play than opp spin...

  • only in statistics sachin greater than great Lara ........

  • I don't think its a serious tough !! it may be a tough question but tha answer is simple " The man from T&T " Brian Lara !!! simply, i think compare to sachin lara has the great ability to pick gaps , scoring bigger hundreds , finally ability to perform when the team is in big pressure ....... in all sence brian is great .... then one more thing , Lara's batting is gifted not stereo type like sachin batted ..... in every short inning we can see lara's greatness ...... God's gift to cricket .

  • Wasim Akram, bowled to both Tendulkar & Lara, ask him who's the best batsman he's bowled too, Martin Crowe is his answer, quote he was an amazing batsman. Regarding Tendulkar and Lara, I would love to have both in my team! Who wouldnt?

  • I like Lara's comment on Sachin..that is "humbleness"..Im proud to be a Sachin fan.

b/w i dont see apoint in making this comparison

  • Sachin R. T. is the best of the best cricket player in this world... even no one can near to his records and achievements. his recent 200 runs shows everything and after that his going to 100 ODI 100.. Sachin is a cool and well behave nature person. Many bowler saw him in their dreams to kicking their but..... Sachin you are great....

  • Jacques Kallis is a better allround cricketer then all these guys go and check the stats ......as far as pure batting is concerned Lara is slightly ahead of Sachin in terms of talent but Sachin is the greatest since Bradman....

  • i'm english and would have to say ponting is the most fearful of the three batsmen. it doesnt mean he is the BEST but particularly in ODI's, whenever England would play aus, we'd all be worried that if Ponting had one of his days, it was always going to result in a major loss for our boys. He takes the game by the scruff of its neck and destroys attacks like none of the others.

  • @deNorbury thats because you guys have the ashes series very often...india only tours england once in 6/7 years...go take a look at averages and strike rates...tendulkar is ahead of ponting in all forms of the game

  • @deNorbury and tendulkar scored a 200 not out in odis against the number 1 odi team(south africa) in an odi...at the age of 37-38,when he s already past his prime....

  • the best coment was of wasim akram... LARA can single handedly change the result of the match,,,, thats the quality of class player like Lara which is laking in sachin

  • 501*, 400*, 375, 277, 153*.........done in majestic style. The entertainment and enjoyment provided by Lara's strokeplay is unmatched in the game. Lara is on a next level!

  • @Legalisation because of this high scoring runs only laras average is high other wise it would have reduced .. lara is an excellent player.. but he was very inconsistent.. west indies board once dropped lara, for his inconsistent over several matches.. sachin wont score big runs like lara.. but he is very consistent.. i would choose sachin is the best because of his consistent.. ..

  • @Legalisation thats the thing...even though he had these scores...he was very inconsistent in the late 1990s....i was reading a book abt sachin and there they were comparing them and thats where i got the information from

  • @Legalisation not forgetting that 501* off only 483 or so deliveries making it more amazing and the 400* in a weaker west indies side

  • I THINK THERE COULD BE A MISTAKE IN THE STATISTICS HERE IF I AM NOT WRONG IF THE AVERAGE IS WORKED OUT BY TOTAL RUNS DIVIDED BY TOTAL INNINGS THEN SACHIN'S AVERAGE IS 12773 DEVIDED BY 261=48.93 AND LARA'S AVERAGE IS 11953/232 = 51.52 WHICH WOULD SIMPLY MEAN LARA PLAYED LESS OTHERWISE COULD HAVE MORE TOTAL RUNS THAN SACHIN THE SAME THING APPLIES TO THE RATIO OF 100s AND LARA'S HIGHEST SCORE IS ALMOST DOUBLE OF SACHIN'S 248 (LARA 400) STATISTICS USED FROM THE VIDEO ABOVE.

  • @gulgul74 you are wrong man, while calculating the average we divide total runs by total number of innings in which batsman got out... not out innings are not included.....

  • The statistics placed there is to make Sachin look better. No disrespect to Sachin but he has played much more matches than Lara and he just isn't as good. Lara is the perfect batsman in my opinion. on top of this all most of Lara's scores that were low ere during his captaincy period and most of the West Indian side didn't like lara and were against him this added a lot of mental pressure to him and is the reason for most of these low scores and is also the reason he retired when he did.

  • @SolomonD01 you must be nuts...even the aussies have said that tendulkar has the most pressure every single match cuz everyone in india(1.2 billion) want him to perform and get a century..and he has been dealing with this from age 16..and yes,he went throught the same captaincy, injuries problems, and the risk of losing his spot..and many were already plotting to remove him...in terms of pressure,no one has had it more than sachin and no one has delivered as well as him...

  • @SolomonD01 whatever dude stop telling us why his scores were low...no excuses....well then i can say there is a lot of pressure on sachin bcuz 1 billion people want him to score runs......and just look at their averages...lara 52 in tests and sachin 57.....lara 0 in odi and sachin 46 and the good thing he is a better all around player bcuz he also has 200 wickets

  • @indiajag1 i'll post some links on your wall comparing the two. sachin has started playing cricket from a young boy. he has had more time to bat in odi's because he opens while lara pushed himself down the order to give sarwan and others a chance, so that's the reason he has better odi scores. who has more time to score big in odi's a opener or a middle order batsman? i'll leave you to answer that.

  • @indiajag1 if you look a the test matches. lara would have more hundreds than sachin in right now though he is retired if you count all his double hundreds triple hundreds and 400 separately. as i think you should know they don't count that under your century belt. look at the statistics, lara single-handedly had to try and score all the runs for WI. and you wouldn't know how hard it is controlling the WI team. everyone is not from the same island so there is constant confusion and hate that was

  • @SolomonD01 poured out to lara because the team didn't like him because if you put a trinidadian in there would be complaints of too much trinidadians and it always caused confusion. many teamates have performed badly and caused lara to fight against teams by himself. wouldn't that put bad mental pressue on you? sachin has had his share of troubles but his team always backed him at least. WI team is the hardest team to control i think each country should come out international

  • @SolomonD01 dude how can u say if lara would had played that long as sachin he would had the same centuries looking at his age he is 41 rt now... if u look at ponting or dravid in the 130+ matches even they look that they will easily catch sachin but u can see the diffrence...

although i feel there is not much diffrence between sachin and lara in test.. sachin is just slightly ahead , while sachin is far better in odis then lara...

  • @gulgul74 dude but there are also not outs involved

  • @gulgul74 u mention sachin's bets and lara's best......iu wouldn't mention abt the centuries which clearly shows sachin was more consistent

  • well sachin vs lara vs ponting..i have to say that in test cricket sachin and lara are on the same height nd ponting just behind from both but in one day cricket sachin is faaaaaar ahead from both lara and ponting..as far as shots vareity conserned there is sachin is the only player who can play two or more shots on one ball..thats it

  • THIS VIDEO IS TOTALLY BIAS! Why isn't there any clips of lara batting. you can even tell the biasness by the narrator' who is indian. All the person who spoke against Lara don't like him becaus eof the amount off runs he scored against them. LARA IS THE BEST.

  • Statistically Lara and Tendulkar have similar records. But Lara is a treat to watch. He has a unique batting style. Highly stylized way of batting like a beautiful calligraphy font. Tendulkar has a more classical or traditional style; very compact and tight but also very effective. Purely as a batsman I fee Lara is better; but as a team player it's Tendulkar. As far as Ponting is concerned, his image as a boorish character, sore looser, and someone we just love to hate, does'nt quite help him

  • original article is on cricinfo if someone searches

    cricketweb net/forum/cricket-chat/12686-good-article-lara-v-tendulkar.html

"Glenn McGrath: “ I think I have a fair idea of what Lara likes and doesn't like and I feel I can make his life at the crease very uncomfortable. He is vulnerable outside the off-stump early on and is not as tight as Tendulkar in defense. I would go for Tendulkar as the best in the world.” "

  • I dont think anywhere you will see a train stopped for Sachin's century, i dont think you will see people running out of ground when Sachin got out, i dont think you will see people forgetting work school, business, girlfriends and much more when they start watching Sachin play. Statistics are there for everyone to pullout and compare, just compare the AWE-INSPIRING Genius that Sachin has in him. My grandfather who was 92+ , who could not sit properly to eat, used to rush to watch Sachin play !

  • There is NOTHING to discuss a lot - Sachin is the BEST among all, he proved it, we need not compare it and analyse so elaborately, whom he played, where he played, how many innings he played .......All he has is PASSION, none else has shown - such perseverance was never shown consistently by any player chosen from any sport i believe, scoring 400 has not happened many times, and Bradman played on 12 grounds mostly. Sachin has seen much, played much and showed repsect and love for game much

  • @Humdinger1983

400 has never happened in the history of test match cricket!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Here's food for thought...At their best and if you had one ticket to watch one of these two players..who would you see?

  • Lara is the best ever....he proved himself against all odds in a declining team, and left many in awe of his class and technique. Sacchin is good no doubt great in fact, but in terms of talent lara takes it by far. Ponting has some catching up to do.

  • Obviously, in ODIs, it's a no contest. But in tests, I find it nearly impossible to pick between them. However, if I had to pick, Lara in full flow is the greatest test batsman I've ever seen. Yes, I think he is a greater test player than Tendulkar. 375 and 400* says it all to me. He also had a greater propensity to hit match-winning hundreds than Tendulkar does. Across all forms, Tendulkar is easily the greatest since Bradman, but strictly in tests I think Lara really was something else.

  • @iljn1988 lara has a shockingly low average against india (33, which susprised me). tendulkar has no such consistent blips against any opponents.

  • Tendulkar has been playing test cricket long before Lara and he had to catch up with lara like some people said some 15 innings to do catching up for someone you jumped out the gates in front of,just food for thought

  • one more thing, Lara played 131 tests and he ended his career with average of 52.88 . At the same stage that is end of 131th test tendulkar averaged 55.79.

  • @zxaar yea but he had less runs jackass lara only has 6 not outs whereas tendulkar had more but lara had more runs so your point is not justified

  • @ronaldo3649 , what is not justified. They both reached 10000 runs in 195innings (Lara) and 196 innings tendulkar. Their difference in run/innings is around 1 run. Thats all.(at the end of LAra's career). But my main point was that SR in tests has nothing to do with greatness. When SR matter tendulkar performed. It is consistency and longevity that decides greatness and not one or two sporadic performances.

  • @zxaar you compared their avg in test at the end of 131 tests but not runs who had more runs .....lara .........who began their test career first tendulkar......so if tendulkar had higher avg at 131 tests and more hundreds why would he have less runs .....u may say his innings was less..true but he still needed 15+innings to past laras tally who by the way had little support at the other end .......so your avg piont was not justified cause like i wrote lara not outs were less so avg is less

  • I think Tendulkar's longevity puts him slightly ahead of Lara. Ponting's record is amazing, but (and it's not his fault) he never faced the 2 greatest bowlers of his era since they were in the same team.

  • I would take Lara out of this equation as I think Tendulkar and Ponting are better. I think Tendulkar is the best out of them all, just because he is so consistent and is able to perform in all conditions. However if we were to compare them when they are in their best form I think Ponting is the best. When is form, Ponting is a batting masterclass.

This is my opinion, they are all great batsman, but I think it goes:

    1. Tendulkar

    2. Ponting

    3. Lara

  • @mmcmahon7 But I have to add that the Don is the best batsmen ever

  • @mmcmahon7 ha i laugh when i read your comment about taking lara out of the equation....listen to this fact ..lara carried a declining west indies he had no support at the other end yet he ended his career as leading scorer ...ponting had great bowling and batting support whereas tendulkar had great batting support as compared to windies yet it took jim 15+ innings to past lara ..also in 1995/1996 the period where the windies began to decline laras avg were 60 in test 47 in odi

  • of the current era, lara is the best in test, the stats shown in video doesnt talk about strike rate lara has 62.5 ,sachin 54.7,ponting 61,lara is more attacking than tendulkar, problem with ponting havenot scored enough runs in sub continentso at test level ------no1 is lara----no2 is ssachin and then ponting

  • @akshat13787 when was SR deciding factor in tests?? Lara has SR of 79 in ODIs where SR matters compared to 86 of tendulkar. So he is not attacking batsman after all where SR matters. In tests consistency and runs matter. This is where tendulkar is better than lara. And by the way Lara has also not done miracles in india.

  • @akshat13787 SR hardly matters in test dravid with SR of 42 is onsidered one of the great , SR above 50 then hardly matters... SR matters in odis and Sachin has far better SR then lara in that...

  • as a pakistani i must say its tendulkar. especially the ending of sachins career he is killing ponting in terms of runs!

  • off course ponting is the bestest batsmen in the current era cause his rate is high than anyone else.so its easy to choose who is the best.

  • Nobody is better in cricket than SIR DONALD BRADMAN. He is the GOD of cricket. Noone can chase him. just imagine 99.6 average of test cricket. Highest standard deviation among all sport players. he is the best. he is only best...... Great aussies.............

  • ponting has played 100 matches less in odis than sachin and scored 4k runs less.He will surely hit those 4k in 100 matches.he has scored at the same rate as sachin.

sachin in 171 tests hits 14k runs and ponting in 145 tests hits 12 k runs

so whats so much of a diff between em i dont understand, moreover ponting won 3 world cups, captains the team and is a regular member of the aussie team which kicks out players if they dont perform.Ponting debut 95,sachin debut 89...

    Does anyone have an answer?

  • @KINGMJ1990 sure lad ... sachin was not backed up by a legendary steve waugh nor helped by attacking gilly or strong hayden nor perfect mcgrath or magic(?) warne. he played along vinod kambli(have u heard that name?) ,mangrekar and backed by venkateh prasad and is holding together a team which wa at 5th positiion and less to TOP and show his middle fingure to aussies.babayee

  • @KINGMJ1990 ponting cannot play for as long as sachin. as his last 12 months of performances clearly shows. he is on the decline. sachin is on the upswing. their career stats are diverging. look at their averages, ponting shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath.

  • @cricketsoul when you say 'look at their averages' i totally disagree. Ponting averaged almost 60 for 4 years and USED to be a majestic strokemaker all around the ground on both feet with a better pull shot than Sachin. Ponting has been forced to face the new ball in his career many more times then sachin because he bats at 3, and faces the pressures of captaincy. BUT i agree Tendulkar has been much more solid over a huge period of time and now all of his stats overshadow ponting's.(not fieldin

  • sachin is make unbelievable records and lara was looking so cute and stylish and superb so boths are great but sachin is improve time by time now a days sachin is to much dangerous batsman

  • YOU CAN COMPARE BUT YOU CANT CHOOSE OVERALL. THEY ARE BOTH PERFECT. YOU CAN BET YOUR LIFE ON SACHIN MAKING A HUNDRED. BUT YOU CAN ALSO BET YOUR LIFE ON LARAS CAPABILITY ON WINNING A MATCH ALL BY HIMSELF. NO ONE CAN CHOOSE A BETTER BATSMAN THEY ARE BOTH AMAZING IN DIFFERENT FIELDS

  • IT IS SACHIN OR LARA. AND BOTH BRING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ATTRIBUTES TO THE TABLE. ITS LIKE 2 SIDES OF A SCALE AND PONTING IS IN THE MIDDLE. AND ONE CAN NOT AND CAN NEVER CHOOSE "THE GREATEST BATSMAN" OF THE MODERN ERA. SURE YOU CAN HAVE A BIAS. MAYBE YOU ADMIRE QUALITIES OF ONE MORE THAN THE OTHER. WE ALL GO "OHH" TO SACHINS PERFECTION WE ALL STARE AND GASP AT LARAS UNBELIEVABLE STROKES AND MASSIVE SCORES. WE ALL ADMIRE DIFFERENT QUALITIES FROM BOTH MEN. LARA IS BETTER AT SPIN.SACHIN AT PACE.

  • SACHIN IS THE TEXTBOOK. HIS STANCE AND FORM IS PERFECT. WHILE LARA IS A SUPERMAN. HE SCORES DOUBLES AGAINST AUSTRALIA AND SOUTH AFRICA AND LETS FACE IT ENGLAND IS LARAS BITCH. HE DEFIES LOGIC WITH HIS STROKEPLAY. HE INVENTS HIS OWN SHOTS. HE HAS DONE SOMETHING THAT NO MAN HAS EVER DONE AND NO MAN MAY EVER DO. HE HAS QUADRUPLE AND QUINTUPLE CENTURIES. HE HAS RECLAIMED THE WORLD TITLE FOR HIGHEST SCORE. TEN YEARS AFTER SETTING IT! PONTING IS NOT IN THE EQUATION. SURE HE IS GOOD BUT NOT THE BEST.

  • NO ONE CAN CHOOSE "THE BEST BATSMAN" OF THE MODERN ERA. WE CAN ONLY LOOK AT THE FACTS OF IT; THE TRUTH. SURE BRADMAN SAID TENDULKAR REMINDS HIM OF HIMSELF BECAUSE HE WAS ALSO CONSISTENT WHICH IS WHY HE HAS AN AVE. OF 99. PONTING IS A BLEND OF LARA AND TENDULKAR, HE IS A LITTLE FLAIR AND CONSISTENCY. WHILE BRIAN LARA IS ABSOLUTE FLAIR. GENIUS AND IS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL, UNCONVENTIONAL BATSMAN THERE WILL EVER BE. SACHINS CONSISTENCY CANNOT BE MATCHED. HIS TECHNIQUE CANNOT BE BETTERED.

  • sachin is the best.. i would say because of his technique, better than ponting and lara...if lara and ponting in indian team means they cant play the game they used to be.. amount of pressure sachin carries is more...if the team score is 120 means they want sachin to score an hundred in tat 120 score also... people even pray for a wicket to fall if sachin comes to bat next... with this kind of pressure he is still going strong..all are professional cricktrs but they all human. sachin is best..

  • *SRW's early career saw him get dismissed to short pitched bowling often; lost his place too

*Ponting performed well even as a captain where as SRT simply choked under the pressure letting his team to horrible depths(losing 5 test matches in a trot and failing miserably in ODIs)

*SRT himself wasnt MUCH BETTER against many BETTER BOWLERS of 90s (I listed 5 pacemen)-- and had bad slump in 2003-2006

*Brian Lara played a mammoth innings once a semester and went to sleep

ALL had their pros and cons

  • @MrShubhankarch "ALL had their pros and cons"

While that's true for all players, you have to weight their relative merits and de-merits. Ponting cannot play off-spin to save his life. He lunges forward and has un-coordinated balance esp. early in his innings.

And captaincy doesn't mean a damn thing. Otherwise, we should be discussing Brearley and Stephen Fleming. Ponting simply won more because he had a better team than SRT or Lara. They performed in weak teams and that should be counted.

  • Partly agree

*Ponting wasnt good against Bhajji in India but decent against Murali

*Ponting is useless against offspin is not a fact as he has test and ODI 100s against Harbhajan and Murali

    Winning matches as a captain is largely due to a stronger team;

batting successfully and consistently despite being captain does mean a damn thing -as Sachin has failed it; so has flemming /brearley

    we are following different functions for merits and demerits;

    I am adding them,

    u r multiplying them

  • @MrShubhankarch As for Waugh, he simply played much better bowlers than Ponting and was often the wall for Aus when others collapsed. Walsh-Ambrose, Donald, Wasim-Waqar, Gough - he's played them all and delivered splendid performances. Like Border, he was pretty much the crisis man and that's an area where even SRT and BCL cannot stand upto Waugh. Ponting is well behind SRW in this department and as an all-round batsman, he cannot compare to SRT and BCL.

All said, Ponting is a great player too!

  • Ponting scored

-a 197 vs wasim akram in Perth

-test 100s against Muralitharan after 2000 in sri lanka

-253 against Kumble in a series he took 20+ scalps

-100s as captain,in India, against India in Aus ,in Ashes and in world cup final

-he has excelled more than lara in ODIs will outscore Lara in tests

-he plays a great fielder, a consistent captain and the leading batsman of an aussie side ranging from 2004 giants to 2009 chokers

if he is no where, nobody has gone anywhere in cricket

  • @MrShubhankarch

    1) Lara, S.Waugh and Tendulkar have scored centuries in more difficult conditions against better quality bowlers than Ponting.

    2) Lara, SRW and SRT never had a great opening pair like Langer and Hayden blasting away 100 runs in 20 overs on docile tracks to set up a foundation.

    3) Lara, SRW and SRT can play all kinds of bowling superbly. Ricky has a fundamental weakness against quality off-spin.

Quite simply, the 3 gentlemen are in a different league.

  • @Imrankniazi

*SRW had his share of weakness against short pitched bowling before he cut short the pull shot

*SRT averages less than 40 against Akram,Yunis,Mcgrath,Pollock,Donald

*Brian Lara wasnt too successful against India and inconsistent

*Ricky Ponting has weaknesses against Bhajji in India, NOT in aus

NO BATSMEN IS PERFECT; PONTING ISNT AS COMPLETE AS SRT OR BCL; BUT HE HAS BEEN SPECTACULAR EVEN WITH BURDEN OF CAPTAINCY

    LIKE STEVEN WAUGH;

I have listed his achievements which SRT cudnt

  • @MrShubhankarch SRT, BCL and SRW are all better all-round players. Gavaskar didn't play the hook for 10 years. Just that one factor takes nothing away from Waugh. In fact, I've rarely seen him get fazed against short-pitched bowling.

And the bowlers in the 90s were MUCH BETTER than the bowlers in 21st century. Ponting's average increased exponentially in an era of mediocre bowlers and placid pitches. No disrespect to him, but SRT, SRW and BCL simply performed in more demanding conditions.

  • It has to be Brian Lara. I am from India and I love Sachin but watching Lara was something Special. Ponting would figure no where in the list coz in my mind I feel he played in time where Bowling attack of all teams were not that good. Ponting cannot really play spin and good bowlers. Lara and Sachin have played some of the best bowlers in the world and were competitive.

  • @MrSpeed997 pontin hasnt got d class wich sachin has gt...cmpare sachin wid bradman...cmparin wid sm craps lyk pontin is a disgrac...

  • @monu2619993 that's your opinion. Everyone has their own but im sure everyone will agree that these 3 are quite rightly the best 3 of our era

  • @MrSpeed997 To me it would be S. Waugh, Lara and Sachin (NOT necessarily in that order) but never would Ponting come in that lague.

  • @monu2619993 I agree with u

  • every one is special each one has its own qualities If Sachin can pile up runs on regular basis then lara always plays marathon innings against best bowlers in all conditions Ponting is always there to perform when team needs him No comparison between them each one is special we are grateful that we are born in the age of these great players

  • i think sachin is the better batsmen as he scored double hundred against sri lanka

  • @VIVEKAGALAT has he scored 400? what an idiot

  • @VIVEKAGALAT Brain lara also scored double century against sri lanka that too against murali and vaas at their peak Sachin got support from other players where as lara was lone ranger when other players wher struggled for every run

  • Lara is best...

If someone says all three palying at their best I would like to watch LARA, LARA, LARA first then TENDULKAR and then PONTING

  • sachin is the best............

  • LARA ALL DAY.

  • sachin any day..

sachin nd lara are my fav..bt if i had 2 pick up..thn i wld sachin..

lara is stylish..sachin is techinically power pack nd consistancy..both r pleasing 4 d eyes..

  • SACHIN is the best batsman forever for all formats of Cricket

  • Is rank 2, 3, 4 no. player can Judge Player no. 1 no, no, no,

Listen Great Don... he said Sachin is like him,..... Number 1.

Hence Proved: Sachin = No. 1

  • I am inviting all of you at Kolkata Edan Garden in any 'INDIA PAK' match, come with SACHIN only upto the CREASE, see all CROWD, there expectation, pession, screaming etc., If you able to pick BAT in such PRESSURE ..... then I will no doubt say SACHIN is NOT deserve for FIRST !!

IF anybody know Cricket "Its an Gentlemen GAME" ... then who is Biggest Gentlemen in Cricket !!.... So please no comment, enjoy and feel luck you born SACHIN era !! (TRUE=INDIAN=SACHIN)

  • @iLittleRose pressure is always on a great player lara and ponting also have pressure on them lara had to carry an entire team on his shoulders Each time he walked on to bat he had the pressure to carry on the legacy of a great team Ponting to lead a team that has players like Warne Mcgrath Gilchrist Hayden he had the pressure to score runs to justify his captaincy and after their retirement he has the pressure to carry on legacy

  • Lara is graceful and more stylish than tendulker.

  • Sachin all the way Test, ODI...

  • Sehwag has 2 triple tons and that doesn't prove a thing.

its sachin all the way for me and then lara.

ponting's batting is too boring to watch

  • tendulkar...with love from pak

  • @karokaraam i thought they hate him in pak, but thats some spirit from u

  • Odis = Sachin

    Test = Lara

  • @324582782 yeah man ur right, thats exactly what i was trying to say as well but some freaks like vijayhitler couldn't figure that out.

    ODI- SACHIN

    TEST- LARA

  • east r west sachin is the best...bt lara will always give tough competition to sachin...ponting is also good bt he have no rights to b compared with sachin(in all three forms of cricket)...sachin is too honest in the field bt asshole ponting will always cheat..punter shouldnt b compared wth lara too in test cricket...bcoz lara will royally fuck punter...

  • Lara owns Test Cricket,... i would say Sachin is better than Lara in ODI, but when it comes to the real Test Cricket, Lara is simply too good and better than anyone else. Sachin has more 100s than lara but Lara has all the records in terms of highest scores and if had more NOT OUTS, his average would be well over 60.

  • @JFK2684 Who asked Lara to get out?

  • @JFK2684 on what measure? why does lara's record against india suck so bad?

  • Tendulkar is god.

  • Lara is king

  • in test cricket..id rate brian lara more bcoz 400* and 375 are just tooooo fucking amazing marathon knocks..he won the game for WI many times...but in one days..i think sachin has a slight edge..overall.. v diffcult to say..no answer!

  • East or West Sir Don is the best!!!!

  • Lara himself said he wants to be like Sachin - Need I say more?

  • Umm.......

Ponting definitely does not belong in the same category as Lara and Tendulkar maybe in terms of records but hey that would mean that Steve Waugh is a better batsmen then Bradman.

I prefer Tendulkar because his technique is so perfect whilst Lara is a bit jumpy especially when he starts his innings.

But Lara is a bit better then Tendulkar at playing spin bowling and I would rate him as one of the best players of spin bowling!!!!

  • Lara is my favorite batsman, but i would choose tendulkar first for my team. Never gives

his wicket away, consistant and mentally strong. Lara has dissapointed and thrown his wicket

away and not had the right mindset. Ian Chappel sums it well: "Lara is slightly better when

    he has his mind right"

  • Lara, on the other hand, is the Dostoevsky, weaving together a story of beauty and force, using both sledgehammer and razor blade to equal effect. Dangerous yet compulsive, with a level of artistry that brings readers (or viewers, in this case) to the verge of tears. "I can't watch, yet I MUST watch." Take your pick to read in bed tonight.

  • So as we can see, the jury is still out on this never-ending debate, which will probably be still raging long after the two have hung up their boots. Like someone on a message board said, comparing the two is akin to comparing literary giants. Tendulkar is the master non-fiction writer, the Bertrand Russell.Businesslike and focused on results, with little for the people to become emotionally attached to, except the tremendous results he achieves for his team.

  • i think Ponting is the best test cricketer among sachin, lara, s. waugh, kallis. some of you guys might disagree with me and say lara is better than ponting or sachin is better than ponting but ponting won 44 matches as a captain. Everybody says its easier to captain aus than to captain india but ganguly also had sachin, dravid, sehwag, vvs yet he only won 21 matches as a captain. Ganguly captained india for 49 test matches and ponting has captained aus for 67 matches

  • fuck indians!! but little master is the best player ever to play ODI cricket. he has scored 3000 runs in ODI against my Aussies. I dont like indians but for some we (including me) love little master may be bcoz he has scored more than 17000 runs in ODI but ponting is the second best!

  • tendulkar is the best!!!period......

but ponting and brian are great too!!!

  • No doubt Pointing has more winning innigs than sachin, but fact always remains that sachin is indoubtly the best of ALL TIME. whenever he comes in to bat 100 crore people of india + 10 players of his team expect him to do well !!! still he has great batting record than lara & pointing. I can bat if pointing had played for india he would probably have 75% of his runs than he is having now. You only need to be super human to step in to the shoes of TENDULKAR. and he simply cannot be compared.

  • @jgranpura Ponting has more wins bcoz he had a much better team backing him than tendulkar had for the most part of his career. It is a team sport after all, and how the other players perform affect how these batsmen perform.

  • those who does'nt know abt cricket will say ponting is better than both these legends . i dont even consider those persons as human being.i rather call them senseless stupids

  • Comment removed

  • pointing has never been truly tested like lara or sachin ....

Likewise Sachin has never felt the burden of bearing a weak team {players like Gayle who threw away their wicket just to spite lara} and being constantly under fire from WI administrators and fellow islanders crowds...who were hostile to him...n.b..during the 1999series. He made all those runs with all that happening most of his career!

and was still forced out of cricket due to Administrators! What a Hell !!

  • Your kidding yourself mate. Ponting hasn't played and scored his centuries against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh like Tendulkar has. Ponting also has the better record for winning matches. Whereas Tendulkar doesn't win matches for India. It's a shame his career will end and if he could have his time again then maybe he would know that there is no 'I" in team.

  • i agree with you in some regards..Pointing does dominate and win games but...i actually think Steve Waugh was tougher..i would have loved to see how Pointing would have stood up to Walsh and Ambrose, though... Sachin doesnt dominate or change the game in Test with his centuries.....and if you're in a bad team or team that requires more of you, "one hundred runs" isnt enough...u have to go on to make a big score in that scenario....

  • @hypersonicdragon so that gives ponting the luxury to score lesser runs and still win the game bcoz he has the backing of his teammates, while tendulkatr does not have the backing. That goes to show the pressure he always is under, for him a 100 is not enough, for ponting and the others 50-70 might be enough to w
