Poly students already enjoy much more benefits than JC students. They have less strict school rules, better canteen food, they don't have to survive a strict academic curriculum and mug to avoid retainment. If you say that paying higher transport fares is unfair, you should step into the shoes of a JC student. I am wondering why this video only documents opinions from Poly students and none from JC students. If you're treated more like an adult, then the same SHOULD apply for transport fares.
truly unfair y do we who r not even working yet have to pay full adult fares y not just ask us to start working now instead of studying and getting more foriegn talent to take OUR jobs while WE studentsare studying to IMPROVE the future workforce of OUR country not the foriegners who just stay for some time and then return home. Ultimately those foriegn talents will dessert singapore if a war breaks out and just like cowards they will flee the nest
@maplesingapore Not saying the government is bad, or mistreating us. But, we're saying maybe this student fare should be for people who are below the age of 20, putting restraints so policies don't get messed up. See it in the shoes of someone who is fresh out of secondary but comes from a low-middle income family, having to top up many times a week is just isn't right somewhere. Therefore, think rationally, there is a reason for everything.
@acerjinxian that is just an example of "Student" getting "Student fare". I do that know there is people who is 38 yrs old still Study ITE and have "Student Fare". But they are shy to use the student fare. They rather pay the adult fare or drive to school.
I do think before i talk.I have seen it with my eye. Do you?
@recklessflaws nope i am not, i just hope that this is a platform for poly students to voice out for fairer transport fares instead of slamming jc students.
Seriously? The reason Polys have fashionable freedom is because our institutions have no rules, face it, the government barely gives a shit about us. We're discussing a monetary and political issue here. All the JC crap about uniforms and hair and stuff, that's up to your school, kinda 'no-link' if you asked me,
@toyakira89 I realize other institutions like yours and university all suffer from this, we, of course are the rising generation so its only fair we have to mention you inside. However, during our production we only focused on polytechnic students and we therefore apologize, do note that we're seeking financial equality in terms of transport for post secondary graduates by producing this video. Have a nice day :)
What has uniform got to do with it seriously? Our school fees are already more expensive so stop crapping about the uniform. We are still the students. Not like we have more income or something. Gosh.
@maplesingapore I'm sorry but in my opinion, I have only witnessed whining. If you're unhappy, why not make a video like us? About attire check, national anthem singing, and skipping school? Since you're in uniform you ought to keep up the school's image by being neat, and Singapore is your home, what's wrong with singing for a few seconds, and not everyone skip school and fake attendance, don't assume. In your mindset it might be unfair, but when you leave JC, money will show you what's unfair.
Gov are fair to everyone, if you can't pay for your transportation, apply Bursary.
CDC /CCC Polytechnic Bursary - Effective AY2011, CDC/CCC Polytechnic Bursary will be increased to $1,800 and student with MI/HM of $850 or less will now be eligible!
$1800 / 12 = $150. It should be able to cover your transportation.
Concession pass both MRT/bus/LRT is $97 dollars.
Still have change for other needs.
If you cannot apply, means that you should be able to pay for your transportation.
Do you know WHY some poly students choose not to buy concession its because if the monthly transportation is $60 you save $37.
you cant expect everything to be fair and even if the govt have provided specific measures to tackle this problem but there still some people bearly make it due to inflation.
@maplesingapore@sagestrain We're not asking you all to pay, so why so defensive. Freedom or not, student fares is to help students have less economical burden. How the government is going to help make life easier for us. If we're struggling, why can't they give a little helping hand? I'm really astonished as too how come all of you become so defensive. Ain't going to take away your money, we just think should also get student fare since we're students too. Take a wider view at things.
@TanHuiJuan lol, i believe there is more than just uniform stated below in my comment. And, your school fees is much expensive because Poly are big-ass schools, you have at least 5 foodcourts in 1 poly, they make your place of learning as conducive as possible with air-conditioning in your tutorial rooms, you have librarys which are a few stories high. Of course you school fees are much higher...... -.-
Please people, don't say its unfair just because of the transport fee! We JC students have more unfairness than you poly students. You guys can wear whatever you want, but we have to wear uniforms. You guys can keep whatever hairstyle you want, we have to cut them short. You guys don't have to sing the national anthem every single morning, but we have to. We have to come to school everyday at 7.30am , you guys have un-fixed curriculum and may even start in the afternoon.... So think about that..
@sagestrian Well, that is how your school's management runs, but you're not talking about how the transport authorities are running this. You can't blame school's management on this as they are outside parties. Both poly and JC students have responsibilities and are both youths, shouldn't you see why now?
As a fellow poly student,I understand the plight of many other students facing this issue. This issue has been long overdue and I REALLY hope the government would not turn their backs on this issue!
oh man, finally! the only reason i went ITE instead of poly and i stopped is because of this issue too. Sch fees and everything inside is already a burden. Transport instantly became adult fare. Poly students went school, Poly students doesn't work, Poly students not all are adult.
Everyone has to be treated the same as STUDENTS. because of this alot of students dont want to poly instead of ITE/JC. lesser burden also. Cheaper than everything. except certificate.
well, thats bcos Poly is already 'tertiary' studies while JC is still 'post-secondary'. under tertiary there're Uni & Poly.Poly is studying for a Diploma while in JC students only graduate with a Certificate. that's why the bus fare's different. just my 2 cents worth.
@rapha24mt but even if they are divided into two categories, have anyone sparred a though that many majority in poly might be fresh out from secondary, making them somehow 'post secondary', both share the same burden of studying, exams and cca. just saying
Totally. Poly students are also students just like JC students. It is totally unfair when we poly students have to pay adult fare while JC students can continue paying student fares. Isn't this plain bias? Is the government trying to say that JC students are better den poly students thus JC students can pay half of what poly students pay? Most of the poly student's money are spent on transportation already!I seriously hope that the government takes a look into this and do something about it FAST
If were to ask you guys from poly to wear uniform everyday, will you guys want that?? I think the Government thinks that "Student" are those or SUPPOSE to be wearing uniform :(
It's great that someone finally sees the existence of this issue. In fact, in my opinion, Poly students are extremely often treated unfairly compared to other institutions, particularly JCs. Poly's are often considered the place for the people who 'cannot make it'. Let's be honest, Poly is those who are already prepared for the future, those who are smarter than JCers in other aspects but yet treated like failures. We're still 17-18 y.os, we're still Singaporean students. Where's the equality?!
Poly students already enjoy much more benefits than JC students. Gov are providing Bursary as a helping hand to the needy.
Gov are helping them to relieve the burdens.
So as you say, gov should provide student fare aka $0.58 to all school going student.
Then a 40 yr old uncle study part time, so he should get $0.58 fare.
Like that everyone just go for part time study to get $0.58 lor.
Really save a lot of money leh.
Even better, tell Gov to provide free transportation.
FOC for all, 100% everyone happy.

@TanHuiJuan Do you have to sing national Anthem every morning? I know ITE don't but JC still.
Poly have more freedom then JC and ITE.
Still have hair check.
ITE and JC cannot have colored hair, long hair.
ITE and JC cannot smoke in school, still have spot-check bags also.
ITE and JC you can't really skip school and fake your attendance also.
Poly you can have freedom.
Do ITE and JC have the same amount of freedom?
So what make Poly student should have this fare?

Bursary is a form of Helping Hand.
Do you know what International School Student in SG need to pay Adult fair. From Grade 1 to Uni, those student need to pay adult fair.
They are also student, why not those International School student also get concession.
Are they complaining about it?
Diploma are useful international, A level and ITE cert how far can they go compare to Diploma?
Since Poly is doing International standards, gov will charge equally.

ITE and JC are not tertiary Education.
Poly and Uni are tertiary Education
tertiary = Adult fare.
I believe that Poly are not wearing Uniform, why should they have the rights to have Student fare?
If poly also get Student fare, then why should ITE and JC student still need to wear school uniform?
