The singing is absolutely amazing. Great harmony and everything! The choreography is really stiff, and it's super...well, choreographed. When some people were moving, I could tell "Oh, that person's mind is set on going straight to that specific spot." And...they did. But other than that, the music is superb. Great soloist playing Jesus.
The entire cast is amazing, Zach especially! You guys were very tight on all of the harmonies and you sounded wonderful. The choreography, though, that's another thing. What movement there was quite stiff, it just looked kind of tacky having Zach stand there and sing for the first 2 minutes of the song. Contrary to popular belief, just singing well DOESN'T make up for slacking off on choreography. Still, though, this was a great job and definitely the best version of this number on YouTube.
@Penhaligon29 This is a song that requires staging... not choreography. The character has just been introduced... "Razzle-Dazzle" isn't required at this point in the show... that comes later.
@Exposer1969 Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. Staging is what I meant, I've just been choreographing for so long that I've become accustomed to just pegging that under choreography. Still, I think the argument still stands that the staging lacks a little bit. It's supposed to be a bit more energetic than just simply standing around.
I know!! I just found out, and after watching this, I'm so excited. He is amazing!!! As much as I'd love 2 see him in SA, I really want 2 see him as Jesus in Godspell on broadway after Gavin Creel leaves!!!
totally agree with @Exposer1969 this is a glorious moment int the play... everyone looks like they want to kill themselves. Its also too slow
