  • Kevin Smith should have won an Oscar for writing just for these 2 1/2 minutes alone.

  • story of my life in one scene. love those you can achieve, they won't be waiting forever.

  • Why did she cuss him out

  • and then she walks away cursing him out :(

  • this is great

  • YOU COMPLETE MEEEEEE

  • yep im going to memorize this and tell this to my bestfriend this saturday

  • @chaplain327 did you do it?

  • @Trixiechk405 yep...dooesnt work dont try it

  • @chaplain327 :-[ I love you!

  • I just sent this to the guy i am dating, and I am now waiting for the inevitable shoot down.

  • he had it going on for real... but fucked everything up with his genius idea to have a 3some with her and banky....... epic fail!

  • i'm sorry but this was totally her fault.. lol she was already cool as hell during the movie but she was sending signs that she was really diggin him...so she ain't have to waste her breath yelling in that god awful voice. love this movie tho!

  • The most beautiful declaration of love on film I've ever seen.

  • This speech feels forced, Kevin is a pretty over rated writer imo.

It's not bad, but people don't really like this.

  • @kiwimangum - a matter of opinion, my friend. And one many people here seem to disagree with.

  • im going through this right now...i just dont have the balls to tell a lesbian i love her

  • @rafadm Don't tell her just feel it out. But be warned, they don't think of relationships like other sexualities do. Coming from a guy whom has went out with several lesbians and converted a couple gay women, they can hurt you more than you could ever imagine. PS. I am not gay or bi-sexual that might make a difference...

  • watch?v=u8dLwUjCNjY <--- best song for this scene evar

Every girl in the world wants to hear this from somebody. And every girl in the world, upon hearing it, would get out of the car and walk off into the rain.

    janeane garofalo explained it perfectly.

  • Here's my comment, FUCK YOU

  • this is what happen when my edit button broke on Friday night .....uggggh wish I was dead

  • When had a crush on a girl and didn't have the balls to say anything -- I saw this movie and this part made me think of her.

  • Holy shit. He's a GOOD fucking actor.

  • ladies if a Guy Tells you this!! never let it go!

  • Affleck deserves a oscar-nominee

  • @danb0rge yea, i agree... ben affleck IS a good actor. i just think he should choose his roles a bit more carefully... sometimes he's given shit roles, and it makes him look bad

  • Chi può tradurmelo (anche in riassunto) in italiano? In inglese perdo sempre qualcosa...

    Grazie!

  • Mallrats Redux. If Kevin Smith can make Clerks 2, he can make Mallrats 2, he can make Chasing Amy 2. Lets make the Jersey Trilogy Redux Opus come true.

  • What do you do when your in love with your best friend but u r watching her fall in love with someone else?? How do you fall out of love??

  • time.

  • Best response. Give yourself at the most a couple of months and you should be thinking about other things.

  • if i knew that i would be happy - my best friend was mf g/f twice and i watched her slip away as she found somone else - now she doesnt even acknowledge me! That is sore.

  • It's so ironic that the truest love story ever told was one between a man and lesbian. Chasing Amy... I know I will be forever doing so.

  • Leave it up to Kevin Smith to make one of the most honest films ever.

  • Truest scene ever filmed. I once had to give a speech like this to a girl - and I do mean HAD TO (you know what I mean if you've ever been in love) - and hearing my own feelings and experiences spoken by this character a few years later was amazing. No matter what else Kevin Smith has done, I would call him a genius for this scene alone.

  • STILL ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES IN THE LAST 20 years! Hate all you want but kevin smith has made better movies that a lot of the other garbage on dvd for half the price.

  • Best love confession, ever.

  • Wow. He...actually...can...write. Who knew that the man responsible for diverting juveilea like Clerks and Mallrats was capable of something this mature and well done.

  • WOW. That's...touching. Who knew that that the guy who wrote such enjoyable but juvenile stuff as Clerks had such poetry in him? I can't watch this movie very often, as I once screwed up and lost a friend and this movie hits me a little too close to home, but it's really a surprisingly great, mature piece of work from Smith, of all people. It's really good stuff.

  • It's a movie. It's a script. It's someone reading someone else's lines.

  • Yup youre right,it is just a script. Thats my point- the back and forth is whether a speech like this works in real life, and sorry all you doe eyed romance freaks out there, it DOESN'T (Maybe once in a while when the planets are aligned correctly)!

  • turpin77777777777 your sooooo correct, they wouldnt shut up, thet would be budging in everywhere. Thats what makes this speech SEEM so powerfull.....The woman is keeping her mouth shut, its like a magic spell.

  • Yeah, this stuff rarely actually works. If a chick wanted to be with someone who was soft and gushy and sensitive, she'd date another chick. It seems like most girls want their men to be insensitive, hardnosed beer drinking pricks. That's what men do.

Take any girl, treat her like crap, and she'll be on her knees before you can say Monica.

  • It doesn't matter if you're a "hardnosed drunken prick," when you're out of your mind in love with a girl you are totally helpless around her. And if you're not helpless, you're not really in love. Take it from a guy who's been there - everything Ben Affleck says in this scene is 100% true to what it's like. I've never seen anything more true in a movie.

  • Best love speech ever!! I don't like the movie so much but his confession I know it by heart coz it expresses exactly whatI have always wanted to say to the love of my life but I am a coward... someday maybe... Thanks for uploading it!

  • Thats some heavy stuff right there!

  • This is the only movie in which I would actually consider Ben Affleck to be a good actor. This is my favorite scene in the movie. His speech is something that I have honestly gone thru.

  • Weve all gone through it. Its funny, I was going to post the same exact comment you did. I feel that Affleck cant act his way out of a paper bag. But I thought he was good here

  • Oh yes, and speeches like this never work. Women dont want to hear men's true sensitive feelings. Theyre too busy playing games, thats why we have to put up such a tough protective shield all the time and not express the truth.

  • That's not true. Long before Kevin Smith conceived this film I gave a similar speech to the only woman I married and had a child with. Only mine came accompanied by tears. Close the deal baby.

  • I can't speak for all women, but I know that if a guy was this articulate and thoughtful to me I'd be in love. I like a guy who is smart and not totally arrogant about it.

  • thisislizz,It's easy for you to say because you probably love ben affleck and are enamoured with the words coming out of HIS mouth.

  • I've never liked him and I think he's a crappy actor, even in this scene. Save your psychoanalysis, for all you know I could be a 45 yr old man.

  • well if you're a man and you want to call yourself lizz thats your perogative (and may require "psychoanalysis" :) ) . I apologize for my use of deductive reasoning in thinking you're a woman.

  • Unless they're old, ugly or insecure.

  • Kevin Smith's best movie. An absolute classic. Funny as all hell, but with a great, great message. Don't let the one you love slip away because of your own insecurities...

  • This is such bull shit - a women would never shut up long enough for a man to speak for a full two and a half minutes. Game. Set. Match.

  • lol!

  • mallrats is better

  • .....then she freaks out!

  • one of the best lines ever said in a movie. Maybe it would also work in real life. I wonder, do women actually like to hear this shit? I mean as deep as Holden tells it. Then again its just a movie...

  • omg....his confession is so beautiful! I would LOVE<3 to hear this from a guy I care about.

  • You would... for the first month or so.

Then you would be a bit weirded out and go for a guy who was just more casual with the whole thing.

Generally actions speak louder the words for women.

Men are better off just not saying anything in this vein and just making the effort when it matters. It means a lot more and you don't need to say I love you every five minutes for reassurance... it just shouldn't need to be said. Still love the scene though

  • Good explanation

  • "Generally actions speak louder the words for women.

Men are better off just not saying anything in this vein and just making the effort when it matters."

exactly, but it takes a failed attempt or two to realize that...probably why THIS scene in THIS movie meant more to me 10 years ago than it does today :(

  • you dont say deep stuff until your actually dating her for say 2-3 months.

P.S. And as far as creepy friends to lovers this is exactly what freaks a chick out and scares them away - even as friends,

  • So, basically, you should lie about your true feelings to the person you're in love with for at least a few months? So much for honesty being the foundation of any successful relationship. Women constantly gripe about guys not being open enough. A lady worth being with wouldn't "freak out" or be "scared away" when a man finally lets her in.

  • I know everybody loves "Clerks," and it's a classic, but I really think that this is Kevin Smith's best film by far. It's definitely one of Affleck's best too.

  • This part reminds of this girl that I want to tell her that I like her

  • My favourite film - especially ti illustrate how communiaction in relatioships is important, and how the past does not matter AT ALL...

  • wow, this looks like a really good movie

  • You had me at hello. Now, shut it.

  • Hey guys... this is EXACTLY what girls want to hear. EXACTLY. I guarantee if you say this to a girl and you truly mean it... you will get laid.

    Wonderful job, Mr. Smith.

  • Urgh that girl who plays Amy is so annoying when she speaks!

  • there no girl name amy in this movie...

  • it's called chasing amy because of the story silent bob told to holden about his relationship with a girl named amy before. in the end alyssa and holden's relationship ended up the same and that's why the movie and the comic in the end were named chasing amy.

  • BEST LOVE FILM EVER it sums up everything

  • beautiful..i love this film..of all the kevin smith movies, this and clerks are my favourites.

  • i love this movie. one of my top 5 of all time. and i can so use this clip in real life. if only i could.

  • watch this clip with 9 crimes playing behind it- it is absolutely amazing.

  • Hahaha, I have Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah in the back ground. BUT if it were up to me, this scene would work perfectly without music at all.

  • @KiernanMooney

nothing beats kiss the rain... this scene sounds incomplete without it, even the original movie edit

  • This man talks... He ROCKS!

  • why did you edit it? You cut out something. unless, this was the edited version. He says, I know this might queer our friendship, no pun intended.

  • Yeah, I didn't want to include the 'pun' part because it related to the movie and wouldn't make sense amongst the monologue.

  • @fentoozley While it does relate to the movie, it also adds so much MORE context to the scene...

  • @fentoozley While it does relate to the movie, it also adds so much MORE context to the scene...

  • Excellent... got to love the vocabulary.

  • the besttttttt line in a movie, ever.

  • heh yeah i got the opprotunity to use that..ill let u know how it goes, i sent it as a myspace message and she aint online ><

  • This actually happened to me.. but Im sorry.. I tried to run back to him.. and tried.. and tried.. but.. like the movie goes.. it hurts that it didnt work out... scary how a movie becomes part of your life..

    Great clip...

  • heffyend, ur pretty badass.. we should hangout

  • This scene is fuckin' awesome.

    Fuck, these lines are incredible...

Although it may not seem at the first glance, this movie is great. Really good.

  • People make fun of Ben Affleck a lot, but if he said that to me, I would fuck him right there on the spot.

  • all guys want to use this.

  • i agree w/ swaz.. but mallrats is cooler definitely.. i have used this stuff on chicks alot nd i gotta give kevin crdiet for that.. but, u forgot the best part.. when she gets out of the car nd then runs back to him.

  • One of my favourite scenes in this movie.

  • Chasing Amy was Kevin Smiths best work.

  • Best thing the man ever wrote

  • what happened in the end?!?

i've never seen the movie, i have only heard the song.

  • Which song is that?

I advise you watch the film.

    Very very good.

  • @badkid3 Holden wants 2 have a 3some with his best mate and his girl an she refuses and tells him to go f**k himself an then the followin yr he sees her at comicon an shows her the comic book he wrote about there relationship called chasing amy

So it ends with them longing for each other an ben affleck an his mates no longer friends an the chic dating girls again
