Hi Dan, I worked in the Army Airforce Entertainment Division, at Shepherd Field Texas, with your Dad in 1943. I did some comedy and record mimics. He might have still been there when Mel Torme and the Meltones did a show. The only other people I remember are Sid Zeldes and Larry?? {the goniff} who was a seargent who collected a part of our pay (when we got paid extra for doing shows). Please say hello for me. My e-mail is gotchaben@cox.net.
I just got into Jazz accordion (traditional Irish for the most part). Does Ernie have any recordings that have gone to CD? A book/ method on chords perchance? Amazing stuff. Love the style and the sound of the Sonola. I have an SS15 (no chamber). Thanks for posting the video.
Thank you for posting this. I picked up a box set of his records today, Cocktail Time it is called, and don't have a turn table available at this time but wanted to hear him. Fantastic!!!
What a great talent, as a professional accordion player & arranger myself, it is my first time come across this brilliant video, I hope more young generation will see Ernie's great entertainment performance . this is accordion stage performance should sounds & looks like. please pass on my regards to your talented father. thanks for sharing this brilliant video with us.******** from New Zealand
Thank you for your wonderful comments. I will surely forward your kind words to my dad. He is thrilled to know he has many fans in other countries. I am sending you a personal email with information about my dad's music.
What a brilliant video !! I have been a huge Fan of ernie's since I was a little kid....and always wondered what happened to him...This really made my day !! Thanks !!
Greetings from Scotland....please pass pn my regards..and thanks for posting !!!
I wonder who was your dad's clarinet player when the band backed up The Pied Pipers on "Dream". We played that a lot in our teen band for dances in Punnichy SK. Glen Mason clarinet, Bernard Planchet / Frank Bird alto sax's, Ernie Olinger tenor sax, Bill Motherwell drums, Isobel Fee piano,I played trumpet then, but have since switched to clarinet, and still play 'Dream' a fifth below 'as written' How about putting all your dads stuff on here. Lee Mason
According to my dad, the Clarinet player was Dick Anderson. Bass player was Rolly Bundock and the guitarist was Dick Fisher. When "Dream" was recorded with The Pied Pipers as seen in the other's video post, my dad's group and the Pipers were not actually together on that set. They had contracts with different record labels so according to my dad, the labels didn't want them to appear together in this video.
I have the original 78rpm sessions Ernie did with Benny Goodman. When I first heard them I wanted to add accordian to my piano and organ skills.....but, that never happened. My best to your wonderful talented father. I love the sound of he and Benny together. Classic stuff.
Yes, my dad Ernie lives in Orange County, California. He just turned 88 in April. I read him all of the feedback I get on YouTube about him, and he enjoys it very much.
Is the LP you have "Powerhouse"? If so, my dad told me that this LP was done with his accordion that did not have the muting devices inside to create the "Jazz" sound, and he said the record label specifically wanted to create a record that highlighted the technical abilities of my father.
Hi Dan, thank you very much for these fabulous videos! Have you seen your father with his quartet accompanying the Pied Pipers in one of my videos? It's this one:
watch?v=ZLLEc-Xh068
Would you please show it to him and ask him to confirm the names of his fellow players in the quartet? Thank you!
Just spoke to my dad. He does not recognize the SS4 or SS6 Sonola model names. He only knows of the model they made under his name that he played. Last year he donated his original Ernie Felice Sonola accordion to the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.
I study on a Sonola R20 ( 3 voices) and I am impressed by this small instrument. I will change the wet tuning in a more dry tuning however, the tremolo is too much for me.
I've got a lot more video and I am currently re-mastering long lost music. I hope to get a website up soon to get a wider exposure and so everyone can enjoy.
I'm not sure about getting my dad to autograph his photos, but I plan on making a photo available of Ernie taken during the movie "With A Song In My Heart", while he was playing accordion for Jane Froman (Susan Hayward). It's a great shot.
Hi Dan. Thank you so much for this wonderful video of your Dad! I play the accordion a little, and have always admired his great playing style. My first exposure to his music was the work he did with Dorris Day in the movie "Tea For Two". I hope things are well, and that there will be more here soon. I'm going to be watching this many, many times! -Erik
Hey Dan - fantastic video!! I've never heard your dad sing before - very cool voice; smooth-! I loved his performance; it's all just beautifully balanced and poised. Looking forward very much to hearing and seeing more. And say hello and thanks for the music to your dad please.
What a great video! I've often heard about his talent, but this is the first opportunity to actually see him in action. Simply beautiful playing--not to mention his singing. How can we contact you for more details?
Thank you for the view and your nice comments. I will be posting more video clips soon. For more info, just click on my username and your questions go to my personal email.

Dan,
Great job posting some of Dad's shows. Just think, I was only 9 years old when I was on his show. Seems like such a long time ago.

Betty,
I printed a frame from the Pied Piper so my dad can identify the players in the quartet. I will let you know what I find out.

A classic swing jazz accordionist! Oh so smooth! Not only can he play, he can sing! Most of the young artists of today, can't.
