I loved them on IT'S HAPPENING and HAPPENING 68 which they did after WHERE THE ACTION IS was over...what a joy to watch them...I had all their LPs...Mark autographed one of them at his concert at THE BIG E in MA last year. What a gracious and kind man. Puts on a great one man show even still. He is touring now in HAPPY TOGETHER TOUR and I'll see that next week...can't wait!
Paul and Mark hosted "Happening '68" which was also from Dick Clark Productions. It was so popular, they hosted a Mon-Fri version in summer of 1969 called "It's Happening". Great fun with many Raiders song performances.
Yes "Where The Action Is" was Dick Clark's much appreciated kick start for the band (made this guy fall in love with convertible XKE's as featured in the opening credits) but they were also seen on 'Hullabaloo' and one short lived weekday variety show in the late '60's whose name I can't remember either. Gotta scratch the old head a little harder I guess.
Where The Action Is.... Dick Clark. Paul Revere and the Raiders never had a hit outside the US but sold tons here. Saw them in OKC at Dick Clark's Cravan of Stars with Ian Whitcom, The Standells, and The Guillotines.
I remember back when I was a little girl these guys used to come out on TV some kind of variety show. But I can't remember the name. Anyone remember what show that was?
I seen paul revere and the raiders when he was 64 years old. he was great. funny as hell! I laughed and laughed. and he could still do the leg kicks, nearly above his head!i hope I can do it when I'm 64. got to meet him afterwards and he was most gracious.I've been a fan from the start. even before the big hits came along.
Do you know if Phil Volk actually played bass on these recordings? I always liked the bass parts on these early Raiders albums, and the songs as well.
@JHallia Yes, that practice started basically after they attained great popularity and Terry Melcher ,who was the producer began using studio musicians to " reinforced " the producrion.
But for the first two LPs at least Fang played the bass.
For example in Going To Memphis album only Mark Lindsay is in the production and the Indian Resrevation Production was really a Mark Lindsay solo project.
@gomerijos Thanks for the info, the classic rhythm secton line-up was my favorite (Fang, Drake, Smitty)even though they had a lot of good people in the band over the years.
My favourite group.........I still have my collection of all their LP albums, even a few on " 8 Track ".
Hungry was the song that did it for me, I then became hooked on the group. It's great that through the wonderful media of YOUTUBE, one can still readily enjoy their music.
Thank you for the unfortunate news about Drake Levin. He has always been one of my favorite personal guitar influences. He did not get enough recognition for his personalized picking style. I even mentioned hima s an influence on my myspace. He was one of terasons I've always loved the Raiders songs, but not really after Spirit of 67, which didn't have Drake.
What a great song - killer hook, booming bass line, blistering lead guitar and dripping sexualness that was Mark Lindsay. One of the best fucking songs of all time.
Raider Rooters, I'm sorry to have to inform you of this sad news but Guitarist Drake Levin of the Raiders from about 1962-67 had passed away in San Francisco CA at 9.12 am on July 4th 2009 yesterday. (not pictured above on first slide /photo; that is Jim Valley, guitarist PR&R 1966- late 1967). He was 62 and been fighting cancer for a while. He will be missed by us all. Please see philfangvolk web site for the memorial page. Thank you for being devoted old and new fans (me since 1988)
@moxie96 Thanx for the news, sad as it is. I too am a fan of one of rock's most under-rated and under-appreciated bands of the 60's and '70's. friends of mine have met them offstage (not backstage) and have described Lindsey, Revere and the group as friendly, gracious and generally nice people to be around. That the lineup went through changes over the years is no real surprise but all contributed so well to a strong and unique sound.

Boss twin spin Hawkmoon! My dad used to have this single on the Columbia label. The country-fied B side clocked in at a snappy 1:43
