...so Franz Liszt got hold of a song by the other Franz, and turned it into a song for the piano, but then Yuja got hold of the song, but she somehow forgot it is supposed to sing, and so she killed it...
@fredericfranc Why? I just recorded this an hour ago with a lovely soprano, and our interpretation was pretty close to this. I'm sorry you don't like her playing, but your critique is a non-critique . . . What bothers you about it? The tempo is tasteful, the phrasing clear, the tone sustaining, the mood dancing. Do you dislike her because she is Asian and you find it stylish to "hate on" certain ethnicities?
@langlois1 If somebody likes a given piano performance, for another person to try to make them hate it is sort of dumb, and probably cannot be done anyway...but I certainly hated the way she plays it...no, nothing wrong with her looks or being Asiatic...maybe you can explain my reaction by my severe "piano orientation", i.e. strong convictions how certain things should be played...
@langlois1 Probably more helpful is suggesting you listen to what others do with this, THAT exposes Yuja's problems. You can pick up here on the YT two Russians doing it: Evgeny Kissin and Vladimir Sofronitsky, definitely quite a contrast to Yuja, the two of them...
i love yuja wang. i had the opportunity to see her play in houston a couple months ago. but i don't think she excels with chopin. this interpretation almost seems superficially beautiful, whereas kissin captures a depth to the music that is unmatched. but this was beautiful nonetheless.
shes only young, her musicality will improve as she ages. she does excel in the fiery virtuosic pieces, but shows great promise here and in her chopin.
@stevef095- yours"she does excel in the fiery virtuosic pieces, but shows great promise here and in her chopin". I don't know about that. Her Scriabin is stupendous!
she has firm and nice technic but whenever I listen to her playing and it's always stiff and loud . Maybe some other great pianists deserve DG recording more and there are a lot out there . I just don't get it.
@DennisChoy1 Well, there is certainly nothing stiff or loud about this performance, though one could say that about her playing of the Chopin B flat minor sonata on her website. But even that is in large part attributable, I suspect, to a poorly engineered recording in a room with bright acoustics. But here she segregates and tastefully shapes the tenor and alto voices, which share between them the pitch material of the lied, with shrewd and exquisite finesse.
absolutely beautiful playing by a beautiful young woman. Wonderful. I wish Yuja a wonderful future. The world is so much better with our next generation like her. Thank you for sharing.

Well, I like this a lot. Such clear ideas, so tasteful, a unic character... I like it better than Kissin (except for the part starting from 3.15)
This girl totally has something to say
