Nord...Darvocet has changed my father and gave quality to his life. And Darvocet has helped me. The med works well when you need something that is just a little more than an OTC NSAID. Dad refused to take a heavy pain med but he would take D. Also if I'm dealing with pain on a busy day, it doesn't drug you out. Darv. was great..right in a niche that is now gone..sad. For the record..Darvocet was great medicine!

I liked Darvon-N and I am happy that I came across them when I had 3'd degree burns. Others used to detox themselves off heroin as it was done for a long time in US without too much trouble. The problem it presents is when it's abused. In that case, it can cause seizures, heart problems esp. when mixed with alcohol and codeine. I was given that 40 years ago and I am still alive.

I take this for sciatic nerve pain in both of my legs. I can tell a great deal when I've missed a dose; the pain becomes intense. I take one in the morning and one in the evening, and that seems to be enough to dull the pain. Here recently, I've been experiencing sharp pinch like chest pains which seem to be happening around my heart. Maybe this is why they've discontinued it. Apparently, this type of thing gets worse and people have died from it. I think I'll switch to Excedrin, it works too.

@MrKjames1 Darvocet and Darvons have been used to wean people off harder drugs such as heroin. There were clinics that put people on a 21 day detox in which time an addict was taken off heroin. In my opinion, I think that Darvons don't produce a heavy withdrawal as seen with stronger opiates such as Methadone or Buprinorphine.

I heard the narrator say that Darvon compound was approved by the FDA in 1972. Yet, I had a cherry bomb go off in my hands which sustained 3º burns. My doctor gave me Darvon for pain after cleaning my wounds and bandaging both of my hands. The accidental explosion happened in the summer of 1970. Are you telling me that Darvon+Acetaminophen was approved by the FDA or just plain Darvon?

The drug worked. I was in my teens and I learned my lesson. It could have been a lot worse !

NOVRAD has been discontinued. Only the d-propoxyphene is prescribed as a C-IV medicine for pain.

I went to a Pain Management Doc b/c I thought that it would be easier to get a script for an effective pain med. At first, it was NOT. In fact, he wasn't going to give me ANYTHING! However, he wrote me a script for Darvocet & I was pissed! I know how shitty Darvs are, not to mention the ridiculous amount of APAP per pill! I complained for a week until the office agreed to an appt w/ a different dr & I was given a script for the med that works best for me. In the end, it was worth the trouble.

Have you been to a pain management specialist/doctor? If not, I suggest that you do. I suffer with chronic back and neck pain and I saved the money to go to a specialist. It was worth it. Pain management doctors are usually willing to work with the patient until the most effective medication and dosing is achieved. BTW, I agree with you. Darvocet makes me feel very ill and I experience ZERO pain relief.

In my opinion, Ibuprofen is the best OTC pain reliever. Darvocet is the worst and I hate the side effects! It is too bad that your doctor didn't prescribe Vicoprofen, especially since you had an abscess tooth situation! I have suffered with an abscess twice and I would not wish that pain on anyone! It is nearly unbearable. Vicoprofen is the BEST opiate pain med, from my experience. The combo of hydrocdone and ibuprofen is perfect for me.

Unfortunately, a cold water extraction does not work with Darvocet. I read that in several places, but I tried to do it anyway. haha...Needless to say, I wasted my time. The shit just will not dissolve and/or seperate! Darvocet is the most ineffective, worthless opiate pain med that I can think of. I only took them for a few days and I felt like shit. My mood was all messed up. My body hurt worse than before I took them. It is nearly impossible to get any sort of a buzz from them.
