I lost hope and talked shit in the beginning because of the references to big hair bands and 90's grunge rock but I can admit when I'm wrong. Pretty damn good documentary and I have no idea why I didn't find it earlier.
TOOL is great. Yet, I see MJK and his outside projects and ventures as very Gene Simmon-esque. I admit I bought $600 worth of Caduceus Wine...so yes, I am a consumer whore.
the marketing people said they were going for that anti-marketing target audience, that's a top dollar market, very popular nowadays, also they have the righteous indignation dollar, also a very big market *goes outside, starts car, shoots the guy accusing Tool of doing the "anti-marketting market" thing, then sucks on tail pipe and dies*
@Silvamedalist I thought that was hilarious too, it all comes full-circle (A Perfect Circle?!?) back to Bill Hicks and Tool being soul-mates in the art.
@deansinghgill i heard about tool from MTV back when they used to play music. their videos raped my mind, and about 4 years after that era, they became favorite band. it took me a while to develop as a person before i could realize how important they were to me.
@symptom1555 I've been mistaken for a guy online so many times when I've said/done something tool related! Male ego is a powerful thing! Hehe and I second that thank you, I've been a huge tool fan for so long and only just discovered this documentary. I hugely appreciate that you put it up! ^_^
@briar834 I actually was going to type the same comment!
On another topic, Danny Carey is my hero!! He started playing drums by just doing rudiments for 12 or so years and then finally got a set. Got a doctorate in music and Is the well fitted drummer for the best band EVER
Wow i was wearing my TOOL shirt and TOOL hoodie while watching parts 1-9 the whole time i didnt relizes this somehow. but TOOL's the best band in my book Loved the Documentary thanks for posting!
Tool found a "new" way of marketing themselves...TRUE. As far as Gene Simmons...well IMO MJK fits that style...I bought his wine-$600 worth(yeah I'm an idiot) but yeah Tool succeeded by maintaining a aire of mystery and not succumbing to the trappings of fame.
Fascinating documentary. Most excellent to get David Bottrill's take on what are probably my favorite Tool albums, Aenima and Lateralus, from the insider's perspective. To me, Tool's approach to music and Bottrill's boundless production genius are a perfect marriage for music of such a progidious scope. There are whispers circulating about Bottrill possibly having been brought back for the new record...which would be epic...and Justin said the extra time they're taking "will be worth it." =)
@JiubLink I dunno how you've never seen them live. You must live in Siberia or something. Although I can say for you, it may be worth sucking 20 dicks as I've seen them 8-10 times and it's everything you anticipate and so much more.
that guy at the end seems very humble, I cant really like Tool with the beatles so much because their songs were so catchy but as far as integrity goes ok, but they are not as big as the beatles were i think, that award goes to nirvana. I do see a better comparison with pink floyd though I think they may be more like that. It is interesting that the host mentioned that the fans will ensure that Tool's popularity will remain one of iconoclastic acclaim, I think that is true for the most part.
I'd also like to thank you for this great video. I'm a huge fan+can say that this band actually has changed me for the better in a variety of ways. I never really thought that that was something that could occur to this extent but this band has done it.
Great Great Documentary, I want the new album!!!!
