  • Hey Des; that's a similar type of lens used in my lighthouse!

  • Chance provided most lanterns at their own design. The one you see rotating is not the original- there was s fixed lens before it was modernised. Lenses get reused too, like the original Happisburgh being used in Southwold.

  • @hellooldchap Chance installed a lens at Hood Point lighthouse here ins South Africa!

  • Isn't it unusual that this lighthouse uses a lantern that is only ever seen on other lighthouses that were designed by Sir Thomas Matthews, yet these towers were designed by James Walker?

Do you know if he ever had anything to do with this lighthouse?

  • @WorldWideLighthouses My lighthouse has a Canadian style lantern room.

  • @CapeFearlighthouse Well, thats understandable...hood point is pre 1850, so would have square panes and is like some of the australian lights too - probably something to do with the Imperial Lighthouse Service but this design was almost unique to Matthews as far as i know.

  • @WorldWideLighthouses Matthews probably did put the lantern room on Nash Point. Which is Britain's oldest lighthouse and which is Britain's oldest original lighthouse?

  • @WorldWideLighthouses My blog is up. Use blogger.com to get there
