I don't know about this one being the greatest win in Navy Football history. But it was definitely one of the most satisfying of all time as far as I'm concerned. I figured that would be it for my lifetime. Never imagined we would come away with 2 out of the next 3.
It was my sophomore year. Charlie Weis worst year as a coach and about to be fired. I was 10th row right side by the tunnel where the players come out. It was a historical game. Most extreme-left students leaving the game had hatred to Navy including so much an anti-war view to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. 2006, it was peek for our troops fighting. Today,, I say, God Bless our troops!!!
I love it. Eff Notre Dame and all they stand for. Wreckless death of a videographer, sexual assaults swept under the rug. Go Miami, whip that ass in the Sun Bowl.
Greatest victory in navy's history? that's a pretty sad history then. did you realize that notre dame was 3-9 that year? 3-9!! navy was good and notre dame was just awful, it was their worst team in their history! in order for it to be a greatest win ever it has to at least be against a 500 team or better, right? Also, you made it seem like the ND 43 game winning streak was all lucky breaks and calls. you do realize that ND was awesome for a lot of those years. in 07 navy was good, nd was not.
@thestuvylives I stand by the statement. Notre Dame's record that year was immaterial - ND's front line outweighed Navy's significantly, they had stronger and faster athletes, and arguably had significantly more talent than Navy, even with a 3-9 record. Navy hung in there for three overtimes rather than give up under the assumption that "no matter what we do, Notre Dame always wins." So yes, for mental toughness and ending the 43 year drought: greatest victory in Navy football history.
Also, "all lucky breaks and calls?" The statement, "In 43 years, only 7 games were decided by 8 points or less" means with the exception of those games, Notre Dame blew Navy out or left no doubt who would win 99% of the time.
@thestuvylives fucking retard. he never said it was the greatest team ever....ur probably just some terrorist who doesnt noe shit about football...good try though...
@thestuvylives they might have been 3-9 but btw you sound you sound mad bro and look how successful notre dame is in fball. big win for navys fball team
What's to say ? What a gamel one of -if not THE BEST game of my 51 years of watching NAVY football [maybe as good as getting carry on Plebe Year ... neither the refs nor touchdown jesus could stop NAVY from a righteous win ... Rahm Vela ... SUPERMAN in action ... NAVY;s TEAM & PAUL JOHNSON ... PRICELESS !!! ... Charlie Weiss and ND after the game ... a class act !!!
Had the pleasure yesterday of getting together with family and friends to watch NAVY hand it to Missouri big time in the Texas Bowl! "GO NAVY IN 2010".
At the beginning of the 09 season, some of the Las Vegas folks had Navy picked to go 5-8 due to a tougher schedule and new players at some key positions. Now if the Midshipmen beat Hawaii and Army they will finish 10-3 and go on to the Texas Bowl. Great video. GO NAVY!
In the immortal words of Beetle Juice, I've seen this about a hundred and sixty-seven times and it keeps getting better every single time I see it ... !
dang it why didnt i sign with the mids?! dumb of me not to sign! this game was awesome for the Navy football program. funny how notre dame got two shots at the end of the game to tie it up with a "pass interference" call that helped em out. none the less navy stopped em twice and that makes it even sweeter! GO NAVY BEAT EVERYON!!!
Oh I'm sure it is, I wont deny that. but its clear that anyone recruited in a big school like Notre Dame is recruited more for their football ability than a guy accepts to Annapolis. Just look at the weights of each player on the offense and defensive lines for notre dame and navy. almost everyone on the notre dame line is a solid 50 to 70 pounds bigger
I dont care what kind of season NDs having. you guys were embarrased 2 years in a row. first you lose to them and then they rally against you with 2 onside kicks and almost win. YOUR ENTIRE TEAM IS FULL OF SCHOLARHSIP PLAYERS WHO GO TO ND JUST TO PLAY FOOTBALL. you guys spend months RECRUITING players just for the sport. Navy is full of all walk ons. its a military academy so these kids arent there for football, they arent recruited to go there to play football. you guys are pathetic
rofl i didnt say anything about how they still go to school for free. im saying there is no recruiting for players in navy, thats where you get every single player you have. navy kids are paid for all 4 years to serve in the military for the next (at least) 4 years. your players go for free to be great at football and they aren't. deal with it, you almost lost to a bunch of walk ons again.
Oh please. Dude, I spent 9 years in the Army and served with a bunch of ring clacking West Pointers. Part of their acceptance was based on athletic abilty. Who are you trying to bullshit?
Not quite representing all our proud and honorable Army personnel are you? Same team...Army, Navy, AF, USMC. Not cool dissing on your fellow service members...happy Vets Day.
Give me a break and get real. You have been watching too many bullshit recruiting commercials if think we all served honorably. We were nothing but cannon fodder to most officers.
I know we didn't all serve honorably...I've seen and read those stores first hand. But I believe that's a minority of our men and women who served, and served proudly. It stinks if you had a bad experience with an officer. There are bad apples in every rank. I only commented because I don't believe in bashing our men who serve because of a football game (and women) and look at the commitment they signed up for. As they see, Freedom isn't Free...that's what we should respect them for...you too.
So if I understand u correctly bozolips, ur saying the only reason navy beat them was because notre dame had a bad year? Navy only lost 27-21 this season idiot, and it was a good game. Navy has always been a good football team dude and Im really tired of hearing u Notre Dame fans bitching all the time, saying this game was only a fluke, plus the refes did give u 2 of the last 43 games (saw the game footage). U GUYS GOT BENT OVER AND TOOK IT HARD THIS GAME SO DEAL WITH IT !!!!! GO NAVY!!!!
Oh fuck Navy. ND was total shit last year and the squids were just lucky enought play them. They got their asses kicked by ND yesterday. Make a tribute video to the 3rd quarter destruction of Navy's defensive line.
Crazy fricken game! great video! captured the rivalry prefectly. my friend Kaipo from high school was the quarterback of this epic game for Navy, way to represent Hawaii! GO NAVY!
Amazing video, amazing game. I don't follow Navy football regularly; I am an Ensign though having received my commission via NROTC, and this game meant every bit as much to me as it did to the crazed Academy grads in my wardroom. Hook em Horns and Go Navy! You guys earned it.
Horns - THANKS! We're all one Navy after graduation. Can't tell you how many times my heart was broken leading up to this game when it looked like we were going to actually win... All the best.
John Carney (ND 1987) is a friend of mine and our families went to every Navy-Notre Dame game from 84-87 while I was at Navy (1988). He was their place kicker and an 18 year NFL kicker. It sucked when my best friend kicked a 40 yard field goal with 14 seconds left to beat us 18-17 when I was a plebe in 1984. We were on the phone together from the middle of the 4th qtr 'til our victory during the 2007 game, and he was genuinely happy for us. BTW, we beat #2 South Carolina in 1984.
Todd - Roger that - I remember both games very well. Was a youngster during the 18-17 game - I remember watching it in the wardroom - couldn't believe losing the way we did. You figured your best friend would have cut you a break! Similarly, my phone rang off the hook with classmates wanting to savor the victory after the 2007 game concluded. Go Navy! Send John the video!
All I gots to say is one word: Academy Freakin' Award! Move over Coppola... there a new sheriff in town and his name is Davio87! Rock on... and GO NAVY!!!
