  • you are a great irishdancer . I wish that was me.

  • This is one of the most difficult jumps, but it´s awesome!! :))

  • I watched this in the summer and Im a novice prizewinner and can do these now. a slow breakdown really helps

  • I have to do that in my new reel step and it's sooooooooooooooooooooooo hard to get that leg through fast enough

  • thanks helped a lot!!!!!!!!!

  • i got dance lessons from her!!! - she has ALOT of dance awards

  • @BowTiesareCool12 haha yes she does :) if only you could see her basement lol

  • @suzeee3435 i have seen her basement- thats where she has a stage in her house XD it wuz cool

  • thats abs brilliant!

    you have some skill!

  • holy crap.

i hope someday i jump like her hahaha

    awesome <3

  • That is so AWESOME :-) !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jillian Oury is amazing :)

  • Gah, i can do a capella but not a switch leap because i dont jump high enough to switch my legs over in time! How do you get so high?! x

  • amazing

  • This is really cool! Just be careful because you have hyper-extended knees, don't land with your knees "straight" because your straight is over straight and you can seriously hurt yourself. But I see that you are a very serious dancer so you probably already know this.

  • jillian is amazin.....wow

  • shes so good at those! i almost have them in mu steps but i'm not holding long enough :/

  • to jump higher u need to get a longer run at it

    this girl is amazin :O

  • All I can say is wow. I wish I could do that. How do you get all the momentum? You can actually see her kick her but before she kicks out.... so cool!

  • i wish i could jump like that....

how do they jump soo high?????

  • i can do dat its fun

  • What steps does she do for momentum? I am so close to being able to doing this!! I just can't seem to get enough air time

  • and step in switch 2-3-4

in the vid "Jillina Oury dancing in the Parade of Champions" you can see the full step

  • which dance school do you go to then

  • I wish I could jump like that..

  • I'd be lucky if I could do a switch leap half that good. Love the dress!

  • This is definitely where I get my inspiration for my leaps!!!!!! That's really good!!! :)

  • WOW! That was amazing!

  • WOw she's perfect

  • perfection

  • wow, she's a good jumper!

  • if you haven't read the past comments, this is an irish dance switch leap. not related to the normal switch leap in gymnastics and other dance forms.

  • im working on them right now and the vid helped a bunch! thanks! i still have to work on the hight but my mum says that it just takes more propel from the bottom foot! and she jumps very high! good job whoever that was!

  • that is awsome!!!!it helped a lot thanks!!!! by the way is that you dancing? if it is u r great!!!!!

  • no, this is Jill Oury from the MidAmerican Oireachtas 2007

  • she can jump high

  • this video really helped me get better leaps thank you sooooo much

  • Well it can be called an ''over'' a ''switch leap'' or a ''jump'' there really is no coded name for an irish dance jump

  • ur so right...my school calls it an "over-the-bridge" u get it?!? lol! cuz it kinda looks like ur jumping over a river. So all u gota do is put 2 and 2 together and !!!! u've got an "over-the-bridge"!!

  • @irishdancer1989 we call it freeze jump (:

  • Uhm, yes, this is a switch leap.

  • It's an Irish switch leap, or an over, or a lift, or just a normal leap. We have so many different names for things that sometimes we get mixed up. But yes, this is an Irish switch leap.

  • i gotcha. well that's cool. we all have different names for stuff. haha not meant to offend anyone.

  • None taken :)

Glad to help educate the world on Irish Dance :)

  • well cool (: thank you for helping me, being a dancer it threw me off a bit but now we're cool thanks!

  • can you make one like this for twists? (aka swivels)

I'm having a really hard time with them and it's really frustrating me

  • thats not a switch leap!!

  • thats what most of the irish dance world calls this type of leap. if you compare it to gymnastics or lyrical, it is not the same leap.

  • wow amazing leap!

  • thanks so much for putting it in slow motion! makes it easier to 'learn' :)

  • wow. that is one amazing leap!!

  • so flat feet help get height? Anyway... i love ur dancing jillian!

  • o my lord i wish i could get my leaps like that then maybe i could finally get out of prelims!!! Jillian Oury is an amazing dancer, you have to let the flat foot go...the rest was like nearly perfect.

  • as for her foot being flat....is it really possibly to stay as high up on your toes as you should and get that height and hold it and then land without abosultely killing your shins and ankles from the shock of landing? everyone mostly takes off for a huge leap like that with a semi-flat foot. but hey, she's a beautiful dancer! kudos to her!

  • I could watch this forever! (which I probably will) lol She is incredible, I actually saw her dance at the Parade of Champions in person! And to think... I went into that ceremony just happy to recall, and left blown away by her performance!

  • Can I just say, eucharist may be " overly critical" in some people's eyes. Technically, all he/she is doing is commenting on how it could be made slightly better.

I don't think there's any need to start an argument over it!

Personally, I'd like to say Thanks for posting- should help me with mine!

  • i agree about the flat take off and landing, but i know that i do it myself and really its the cost for getting such impressive height.

still, a champion dancer? i can see from the follow on that her back foot stays pretty flat, i cant really judge though as this isn't a competition!

  • Eucharistfreak your right shes totally flat on the take off ! =O

  • Thanks guys, finally someone who agrees with me....

  • It's physically impossible to land with no bent knees...

  • o that's soooooo encouraging...

  • if you look at the slow motion videos though of switch leaps, or any jumps for that reason

Niamh Taylor, Simona Mauriella, Lauren Early, Ashley Smith

All some of the best dancers in the world, they ALL have a flat footed take off, its a split second thing that no judge would notice and i think its just a fact of life that you need to spring off of it to get any height at all

  • You're absolutely right. Teachers need to stop telling is to take off/land on our toes because that's not how it really works.

  • I agree! Don't forget Jillian Oury!

My teacher also asks me to take off/land on my toes, but my height is nearly cut in half when I do! I was at a feis recently, and took off on the leaps in my reel flat footed.

    I placed 1st.

The judges really don't notice and it adds way more spring/height.

  • Problem when boys are doing this: you will hear the heels!!! :( I wish boys had no stupid heels! :)

  • I agree! I think it's just a matter of coming back up when you land REALLY REALLY fast. I had to work on that.

  • wot do u meen? i rly dnt get it! can u pls xplain fanks........

  • ok, Eucharistfreak227, im a gurl dancer, and i'd rather watch guys dance than gurls, I see the guys do that move all the time, and I do go awe when I see the guys do a move like that. Not to take away from the girls that do this move tho, i've tried it, it's HARD!! so relax, there are people who are in awe when they see guys do hard moves, and im one of them!!

  • JEEEZeezzz

  • FLAWLESS!!!:)

  • GOOOO OLIVIIA

CHECK HOW HIGH YOU CAN JUMP AND YOUR POSITIONS :p :p

    HAHA

  • Who?

  • As far as I know that's Jillian Oury..

  • haha ano i got told lie

    lmao

  • That's the same as a leap click, except without heels obviously. You hold the leap and then click it, or switch it in this case. If you want to see any time anywhere, watch any high level male dancer do his reel. They are usually used at least once in each reel. It's not that amazing, guys do it all the time.....

  • gosh ricky, no need to bash jillian like its no big deal......guys have different muscles than women , so jillians is pretty awesome for a girl.....why do you not post a video of your doing a leap click if its so "EASY"

  • can do a double jump????

  • Thanks a lot for making this in slow motion. Do you think it would be possible to slow down any of those plushenkos (or what ever they are called), the spinning jumps done in air. I've always wanted to know how they are done, but all those great champs are so fast that it's just like "oooh, she's spinning in air, but..."

  • in one of my dances i have to do that and i was wondering how you got the height on it?

  • get a good run before it for as much momentum as possible

  • How did you put it in slow motion?

  • i used windows movie maker and theres an effect where you could put a movie clip into slow motion.

im thinking about doing this for other dance moves if anyone would be interested?

  • Thanks a lot! I did figure it out and it helps me a lot to examin my turn out and crossing. I think it's a great idea to do more of them.

  • PLEASE DO MORE ! I can't stop watching this video! It's amazing!

  • She goes to my school. She danced with a group of other Irish dancers for one of our pep assemblies. Different, but very cool.

  • hahaha i was one of those other irish dancers at the assembly :)

  • Good job!

  • I think it is really hard to get such a beautiful leap!!

It demands a lot of hard work and training.

I hope I will be able to do also a leap like this one day ;-).

  • Not that hard??? Excuse me. Jillian, you rock!

  • she is AMAZING!! :O x

  • but she's placed second in the world, twice in a row.... and she'll get first one of these days....

  • and a two time All Ireland's champion!

what i love is that jills dancing is just as great as her personality. Shes one of the nicest girls i know.

  • i know! i did a workshop with her, and she's so modest even though she's like the best dancer in America! plus, she's a good teacher!

  • omg she can go so high

  • competitors like that make dancers like me place last....that is the most AMAZING thing i've EVER SEEN done in competition.......wonderfully, beautifully, SPECTACULARLY done!!!!

  • I WISH I WAS ABLE TO DO THATT !!! :O

  • Jillian Oury is probably the best irish dancer i have ever seen... i dream about leaps like that!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ok thats why she wins Oireachtas and All Irelands?

  • and is also second in the world for her age group?

  • Omgosh that was the best jump Ever

  • and idk if shes righty or lefty but thats a left leap...

  • this is her right foot and correct left leap! :)

    lovely isnt she?

  • i have a request...can you make a similier video with a bycicle jump? i understand what people are telling me with the mechanics and all, i just want to see one slowed down so i can actually see it, and ont the illusion/confusion of it.

great vid btw! really helped a lot!

  • haha sure! I'll try to tape one of my friends this weekend while practicing. Ill post it as a video response once its finished.

  • ooh that's Jillian Oury. she's such an amzing dancer

  • i used windows movie maker.. if you have windows, most likely you have it then!

  • How did u slow that down?

  • wow.....that's amazing!!

  • awesome!!!

  • wow, hehe sometimes it happens so fast you miss how great it looks!

  • bloody hell! that was fantastic! thnx for slowing it dwn, makes it more impressive!

  • whaou!

  • Thanks so much!

  • Thanks so much!

  • Excellent work! =)

  • wow thanks, this is really helpful!

  • susan!!!! thanks for doing this!!
