Vietnam was in the semifinal in miss world in 2002, 2004, and 2006 despite being a new comer in miss world competition. Vietnam joined miss world in 2002. Last year, Vietnam was in the semifinal in 2008 miss universe. Congratulation to Vietnam.

I wonder why some countries (ex. Korea, and Vietnam) still keep wearing their national costumes in the evening gown competitions? And frankly, miss Japan, Thailand, philippines, and malaysia are not that beautiful. Miss singapore, and Hong Kong looks very glamorous, and Cambodia, and Tahiti was a surprise.

Miss Universe is all about USA and Puerto Rico only. Many countries have alrady stopped sending their delegates to this pageant example Sweden, Austria, Portugal, Hong Kong, Chile and few other African and Carribean countries

Because Miss Universe is very political. In general the favored countries are US, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago and a few Latin countries. Recently the pageant has moved slightly towards Asia eg. Thailand ( a Thai company is one of the major sponsor ). Europe had had very poor showing these past few years. That's why many European countries have stayed away from this pageant
