The thing that made Jennings so unique is that he wasn't old time C&W. He began life as a rock musician with Buddy Holly. He then moved into C&W singing standard fair that eventually changed to Outlaw Country (a distinctively non-Nashville sound). He then blended traditional C&W music with rock, honky tonk, and blues to create the path for Garth Brooks and modern C&W musicians. Jennings was absolutely unique and grossly undervalued as a musical genius.
