Can say with experience that the latest edition of this game on PS3 handles about the same. :D
This kcked ass back in the day along with Hard Drivin and Stunt racer(other excellent old school racers) If you watch this and imagine it jazzed up, it has a lo going for it...The marker on the steering wheel shows pretty well how the car is fighting under and oversteer..Also..Just after he shakes the po-po and tha HGV comes a hm..EPIC..and scary. @ 0:55 ;D
I got my first C64 in 2005 and I used to laugh over it. Then I saw this game and my mind was blown away, lol! I didn't believe this computer is capable more than little silly endless arcade shooters! Then I saw Maniac Mansion and I instantly become a C64 maniac! No wonder my classmates think I am an idiot, but who cares! :)
did anyone else have the c64 spell out "turn the disk over, Fuck-Head" on the screen if you did not flip the disk at the prompt? This is my most prominent memory from this game.
The sound was synced in 1987. In 2008, youtube isn't able to sync it correctly with the power of the entire internets. Don't tell me things are better nowadays.

Did I really spend precious lifetime on that back then?
But then: 64k, 8bit computer. One even felt different characteristics in the cars. That game really was a stunning effort on such generic hardware!

wasnt much after this when Geof crammond released the first hardcore F1 sim. To this day Geoff crammond F1 still holds up with the best of F1 racing.

The sound of this game was pretty poor. The C64 was able to perform much better sound.
