  • this car wash is so old how come it still in good condition?

  • I think the brushes are red and yellow. which of course are shell colors.

  • The biggest problem with filament/cloth wash systems is that for them to do their job consistently, they have to be power-washed DAILY. And you have to keep on top of the hydraulics and check every sensor weekly.

  • This carwash is not new.

  • BAYWASH I5

  • I have seen Ryko Voyager I machines that have yellow and gray brushes.

  • This machine rocks in an old school style. I like its structure and the LED display on top of it. I also like the one separate from the machine(the one with positioning lights, red and green lights).

  • @bluebeast600 The seperate LED display is the Ryko "CMD" - Customer Message Display. There are two versions; this is the old one with two seperate LED display lines, used on brush type machines. The newer one, used on the US2001 and presumably Radius machines, is a big uninterrupted grid of LEDs and can display different text sizes and effects.

  • can you believe people still wash there cars with these old echo weedwacker line washes? Im with you votail.. Mark VII absolutely dominates in quality, efficiency, and usage... I mean These Rykos scare people... even the softgloss is an ugly tank... Plus i would advise to stay away from Ryko in general... FINANCIAL PROBLEMS!!! Trying to sell washes just to keep production up.... Well Good Luck out there everyone!

  • Probably, they're getting replaced, just because their too old, and they want an upgrade.

  • Softgloss XS 2

  • Ryko Brushes Is Red & Yellow

  • where is this

  • Used to be at Bird Road and sw 137 ave in Miami, until it was replaced with a Laserwash G5 S-series.

  • at 5:14 it said ryko voyager

  • Im sorry but i think these Ryko things are terrifing. Look at them with all those legs and things. Give me a good old fashioned european three brush car wash anyday lol.

  • They do kind of look like some kind of crab from space.

One nice feature the 3-brush machines usually have that Ryko never caught onto is the brush tilt. The brushes will tilt or even bend at the center and tilt (look up Christ Primus C150 on here) to tightly follow the outer contour of a vehicle. The result is much better cleaning near the top of the vehicle's sides, and less wear to the brush material. What was Ryko thinking, making them stand up straight forever?

  • Im Irish and our Car washes in general are run of the mill 3 brush no tilt sometimes 4 brush. Alot of Petrol Stations by them on contract for there entire station network so there isnt alot of variety.

Id say they didnt have the tech when they started production of their first machines to make them tilt so they never bothered.

  • The Voyager and Ultraclean look alike, How do they differ in performance?

  • @MegahyperDaniel

I think the Voyager may have been microprocessor controlled, unlike the earlier Ultraclean, which I think was just relay switch controlled. That is my theory anyway.

There was also the R7B, which was an even older design without full height brushes at the rear, but with, to coin a phrase from hyvahyva, "sunflower" brushes to clean the upper half of the sides.

  • They were more or less the same. The main difference was that the Voyager has the newer control system which uses an integrated PLC and can use options like the Customer Message Display signs. The R7B, as I recall, isn't relay logic, but is a far less flexible control system.

If you want relay logic, check out an old "Turbo-Brush" machine.

  • Softgloss XS 2

  • We Had A Voyager 2 in a Shell Gas Station 4 years before replaced and when i went there after the car wash cycle was done, we tried to get out but it got stuck, so we tried to back up a zoom forward over the tredle..it was hard...

  • I wouldn't put a new car in there you'll have swill marks light scratches when you get out! i would put an older car in there tho lol

  • Velvet Touch Filament

  • Ryko Softgloss Xs 2

  • I just took it in today

  • it was based on a voyager I and you where right about the low ground clearance my mercedes wagon had to be backed out AND THE STUPID TRANSMISON BURNT OUT SO IHAD PUSH IT OUT WITH THE GAS STATON ATENDANT

  • Ugh. Sounds like a band is slipping in your transmission. Get that fixed before it cooks the whole thing!

I think the issue with getting out in my case wasn't as much a clearance issue as that years and years of siliconized wax had soaked into the concrete, making it slick as wet glass. I could spin my wheels against the treadle but they couldn't grip enough to climb it.

  • Do you know what a voyager APC is? i just went thru one today

  • Nope.. I don't know. Is it based on the Voyager I or Voyager II chassis?

The Voyager I machine is pretty similar to the Ultraclean with tall rear arms, so it might be a retrofit that adds the Voyager electronics to the Ultraclean.

  • I think some of the Australian BP & Mobil service stations have the Ryko system with green brushes for BP and blue for Mobil! A few Ryko systems are still doing their job!

  • There used to be one of these at an Amoco station where I used to live when I was younger. I remember sitting in the car and seeing the dryer blower near the exit when the car wash was moving. It was really cool. I think that it talked when you entered your code. I think it had red white and blue brushes. There also used to be a few R7bs around. They took the last one out about a year ago. (I had to see it before they did that and found a fillament piece on the ground and took it home! :D )

  • Hey does anybody know why some of these machine the brushes exspecialy the top are down when not in use? and the side brushes are sometimes in tha middle, does that mean somebody exit before the complete finish of the wash? I always wondered about that....=)

  • That means the machine has no power or air pressure. The air compressor is shut down or broken, or the power's off to the machine.

The top brush is lifted by air pressure.

  • Years ago there was a petrol station here in Port Talbot called Afan Way Services, when it first opened in 1990 the car wash there was a Ryko Ultraclean with blue & yellow brushes which was used until 1994 when it was replaced by a Wesumat Soft Wash with blue & red brushes which was used until the petrol station closed in 2002.

  • A Few things I've noticed.

It starts at the middle-back end.

It goes through 2 brush cycles [most I know of only do one]

The dryer leaks [I lol'd at this]

    Also, whats a boost pump?

  • Ok, I think the center start is normal on the Voyager I. I've seen it on the R7B as well. The Voyager II sorta has it - the foam bath starts at the front, but then the machine returns to the center before the brushes start. The double pass is used on the Works wash here

The boost pump is used to increase water pressure. Notice how low the pressure is on the wax?

As for that dryer 'leak'... I noticed that too. I think that's from some water that flew into the fan housings during the wash cycle.

  • Haha yeh, It dribbled :P

Looks like the whole unit could do with a good clean and maintenance, it's loud.

  • This machine I have seen around the places I usually go has a yellow and gray brushes, instead of red and yellow.

  • Is your cars red color faded out?

    cause it looks like that

  • Yeah, it's faded.

  • The Q's I asked you on the ERROR'D, I already found out on this video. So you don't have to reply on the other one.^_^

  • Yeah, I just made the other one because I find the huge buzz funny. I have no idea what newer activation systems do in response to having digits of pi thrown at them...

  • weird how the top brush has to retract when the wheel scrub is running

  • All of them do that, even on a Softgloss. It's a safety feature, apparently.
