In the United States, people who consider themselves "Carpatho-Rusyns" or Ruthenians are generally Greek Byzantine Catholic and have ancestors who came from the Carpathian Mountain region comprising land in present day Slovakia, Poland, and Ukrania. Of course when they emigrated it was from a place called the Hungro-Austrian empire. Love this video, there are so many similarities to cultural traditions my family still carries on, especially the easter cheese!
in region of nowadays Slovakia and Hungaria - to year about 1850 (I do not remember it exactly) was your region called "Rusiňa" and it's inhabitants were called "Rusňáci/Rusíni"
Name of that song is "The Ukrainians - Oi na hori" and that village is named "Потiчкы" (Russin) or "Potôčky" (Slovak) and is in Šariš region, Stropkov district, in North-Eastern Slovakia. Inhabited by Ruthenians\Russinians (both names means that same nation)
practically Russinians are not Ukrainians, but Ukrainians are Russinians, name Ukraine is not older than 150 years. People in modern Ukraine was (in our lands) called Russinians since Great Moravian state...
разделили русинску файту границами :( скоро руснацкую речь только на yotobe слышно будет, а заговорим, кто на украинском, кто на словацком, кто на сербском, как уже стало в польше и мадярщине
@ka82yetan, of course you have right to hold on to your personal opinion, even despite of Genetical, Ethnographical, Linguistic facts, that prove you wrong.
@igorsova There is no such thing as ethnographic, linguistic and genetic proof, because that would led to absurd. For example, you could linguistically "prove" that the German-speaking Swiss are Germans. The only reasonable criterion is someone's own identity.
@igorsova By the way, Carpathian higlanders are genetically furhter to Ukrainians than Ukrainians to Poles or other Slavs. Find on the Internet the article: "Mitochondrial DNA Sequence Variation in the Boyko, Hutsul, and Lemko Populations of the Carpathian Highlands"
@belasoic but russinians in Vojvodina (Serbia) are not orthodox, they are greek-catolic (most of them). I am to russinian, but my family is strongly orthodox. And I am pride of that.
My first post wasn't phased properly. I did see the name Potocky but I can't find "Potocky" on any kind of map or any info about the village. Was curious as to what other villages it is near. Is it is Spis County???? Thanks for any info!
Great video, I want to visit your village, we never made it out of Prague when we went to Europe. Your Baba and Dzedo are the best, she's very much like Grammy Stanislava here at home though Stanislava doesn't like to be photographed and is a crabby as hell on a hot day. Be cool!
