this was a cool song back in 69 when i just turned 14, still like it. I don't know why there isn't a clear digital version of this available. I've tried em all-there all kind of "Muddy"
nirvana...Why be ashamed. Look at the new Life with Archie magazines. Not for kids even though they market them for kids. I still collect as an adult and will always have a place in my heart for the gang from Riverdale!!
@pbrick6301 And Don had a huge success with The Archies. The Monkees went downhill, musically, after they fired Don Kirshner. Can you site a reference for your comment? I could not seem to find anything by a search.
Archie Comics are still being published in the regular size but they're not half as good as they were back then. The quality of the comics has been going down hill since the Archies broke up.
Once upon a time, there was plain and simple "pop" music with no deep meaning or message. Some of it, like this song, was "bubble-gum", and was marketed to kids but skillfully composed and performed by talented grown-ups, anonymous people who didn't churn out flat, boring, unmelodic, repetitive garbage for the Disney Channel.
@57highland Bubblegum WAS rather repetitive often with non-sensical lyrics (kind of like a lot of Eurotrash music from today), but I liked it, anyway!
@shmuli9 Hi shmuli; You're right. Some of it WAS repetitive and nonsensical, but it was still somewhat melodic and was recorded by skilled musicians and singers rather than Hillary, Demi, Miley, Justin, etc.
@57highland Indeed! The advent of "AutoTune" allows physically attractive people who can't sing become 'stars'. It also doesn't help that to get around "payola", Disney actually owns radio stations that play non-stop Disney-made pop drivel...
This is a cute song.... there #1 hit, sugar sugar was a sweet song. It gets people singing to it, even today, as it is still heard on oldies radio here in Vancouver Cda. Jingle Jangle however has to be clicked on...got a mouse? Anway Archie comic books are stil avaliable, but in pocket size. I've actually seen them displayed at the checkout counter. It's nice to see senders like you taking the effort to put on a great slide show. thanks & whatever happened to Tinker's Moon?
It sure doesn't sound like a guy singing a falsetto at the very beginning. I have a feeling Wikipedia is wrong and you are right, MrTrashcan1. In any case, thanks for posting one of my childhood favourites :)
Contrary to popular belief, although the verses of Jingle Jangle are supposedly sung by either Betty or Veronica (the only two female members of the fictional group), in reality, it was not performed by any female vocalist, rather it was Dante using a falsetto voice ........
@pdelliot No, not true. Read the Wikipedia entry carefully. And then listen carefully to the song. Ron Dante sang falsetto on the VERSES. The female voice at the very beginning of the song and and embellishing the CHORUS is Toni Wine.
@pdelliot First of all, why would anyone quote Wikipedia? Hardly an authoritative source. I heard Ron Dante speak about his stint with the Archies on the radio and , yes, he did only the verses--falsetto as stated here. The female who opens the song and sings the embellishments during the chorus is Toni Wine who also sings on Sugar, Sugar. She was replaced by Donna Marie in 1970 for Who's Your Baby, per an authoritative source, allmusic.com.
Have all the Archies LPs except for This is Love. By the time that LP came out, the Archies craze died out. What a pity. There were a lot of great songs off of those records!
Wow! Walked into a record store I've never been in before...looked in 1980's bin for no apparent reason and found The Archies 3rd LP with this song on it!!
I don't remember. When I was searching for pictures of Archies this turned up. But in rethinking, without a graphic reference in the photo, I wouldn't have used it if I had to do it again.
This tune brings me back to the summer of 1969, when I just got out of the second grade and assigned to the third grade. Only a lad of eight, I had so much fun and frolic in the sun.
@flowerbellbottoms -- Was there a bottle of Old Spice after shave next to the Vitalis? That's what my Grandfather's bathroom smelled like: Vitalis and Old Spice.
@flowerbellbottoms I think every boy used Vitalis hair stuff back in the 60's early 70's. Maybe thats why in every old photograph my hair looks greasy
My favorite Archies song. I bet Allison Krauss could sing the hell out of this.

Wrong TEMPmichaelhansen. It was Toni Wine singing with Ron Dante. Ron was doing the embellishments. Listen more closely.

@TEMPmichaelhansen Yes, that's what we've been saying. He sang the verses. But the female doing the embellishments during the choruses was Toni Wine.

thats what ron dante told me as well i sent him a email and ask him about the beginning i that was him or toni whine,,
tornadomanatwork 1 year ago
@TEMPmichaelhansen Actually I think Ron Dante was supposed to be Archie. Toni Wine was supposed to be both Betty and Veronica.
disneyfan81 5 months ago
@disneyfan81 I also heard that singer Andy Kim did the singing voices of the Archies besides Ron Dante
Isotec1 5 months ago
Toni Wine did not sing on Jingle Jangle -- it's Ron Dante using a falsetto. At least that's what Wikipedia says under Toni Wine's bio.
pdelliot 1 year ago
@pdelliot No, not true. Read the Wikipedia entry carefully. And then listen carefully to the song. Ron Dante sang falsetto on the VERSES. The female voice at the very beginning of the song and and embellishing the CHORUS is Toni Wine.
MrTrashcan1 1 year ago
@MrTrashcan1 Yes. Toni Wine did in fact sing in nearly all of the Archies' songs.
For what it's worth, anyone with an account can put anything they wish on Wikipedia.
It's probably the least reliable source of information on the web.
