  • The Danger sign was the artist's first draft of the scene (you can see the colors are bland). The Coca-Cola machine was added in 1965 when Coca-Cola bought advertising for the show. And years later when Coca-Cola no longer sponsored the show, the scene was "cut" out completely.

  • If they changed the Cocoa Cola sign into a "Danger" sign, then why was it cut in 1967?

  • Also, I'm curious. What did the sign look like? Was it just a simple Coca-Cola logo? Or was it a sponsorship tag (i.e. "From your local bottlers...").

  • @tsntana From what I remember seeing it live, it was a large rectangular red Coca Cola machine.

  • So was the "Danger" sign the Coca-Cola billboard? I'm assuming it was.

  • @tsntana It was a rough "sketch" of the scene, it was changed as Coca-Cola since they sponsered it.

  • I can see why they cut this out.

  • ...thanks for providing ongoing proof that TV was better before the onset on "reality TV" and these "s(h)itcoms they have on the telly today!! Would LOVE to see this special in its ORIGINAL form!! I have some old Beverly Hillbillies® episodes where the program's sponsor (Winston's® Cigarettes) is referenced in the context of the storyline..VEry inter-es-tng...but WEIRD!!

  • I always wondered what happened to Linus after CB hits the tree! He hits a "danger" sign! I've never seen this before at all; I'm happy to see this, let alone the cocacola sign! I'm not complaining!

  • Why is it so hard to find the scene of Linus crashing into the Coca-Cola sign?

Becoming desperate, I checked your link, thinking I could finally see it, but it was just another clip of him crashing into the strange DANGER sign.

Please, is there a link where I could find him crashing into the COCA-COLA sign?

    Thanks!

  • @officialpeanuts Sorry, but I've been looking for it for years. There are a few people out there that have a 35mm film copy including the original commercials; Unfortunately it has never been shared with the Internet.

  • @spetragl I don't know if it's still there, but the Paley Center did have a copy at one time. Lee Mendelson is still alive. Try contacting him and asking if he still has a copy. Check with the Schulz Museum, too. Good luck.

  • @spetragl Someone recently offered a 16mm B&W kinescope he had of the special that sounds like it does have the Coke messages on it but I wasn't sure.

  • @lawndogmoon There was a promo in 1965 that featured this scene (among others) on youtube /watch?v=RPUIJj5_qRU (sorry you'll have to cut n paste this).

Apparently this was how the scene looked before Coca-cola requested the sign be inserted into the show.
