One of the Greatest Rock N Roll Dreams realized. Kick ass Rock N Roll, undeniable hard work, and an absolute dedication to its fans and live audience. Shit, its no wonder they were such an enormous success.
Often criticized as being held up by props gimmicks and massive promotion the truth is its often overlooked that KISS cranked out some major kick ass ROCK N ROLL. And the impact it had on its live audience was incredible. Nothing like KISS energy. Listen to New York that night. Best live show I ever saw. Neck and neck with AC DC. Amazing energy. Brings something out of the crowd. And for f--k sakes get off the Gene Ace tragedy. It sucks but the history is there and business is business.

Check out as much as you can of the original lineup. Let's hope you get to see the original four someday (though doubtful). I saw the original lineup twice, once in 1975 and once in 2000.
Whether anyone wants to hear this or not, it was very apparent at the 'Farewell Tour' that Peter was incapable of playing at an acceptable. I say this sadly as he was the one who made me want to drum back in 1977. KISS only has a finite time left as a life act given their age. paul won't tour with peter or Ace and certainly had some tough things to say about Peter. If they get inducted into the R&R HOF, then that would probably be the final time you'll see the original 4 together.
@stevedrums - Is it Paul that refuses to work with Ace and Peter? I thought it was Gene that hated those 2 guys. What were the harsh words that Paul had for Peter?
@shimokita2 Paul will not work with Peter, but has been fairly flattering towards Ace in recent years. Gene once said in an interview that he "misses" Peter, but has been vocal in his feelings about Ace which include accusations of Ace having generally anti-semetic views.
@stevedrums - Thanks. I didn't know that Paul didn't like Peter. Gene has been pretty vocal about Ace and some of those videos are on here. I'm not a big fan of Gene Simmons, though. I think he's a classic narcissist.
@thefadetoblack12 I agree they weren't the same without the make-up but I liked Eric Carr in the band too. I can't bear Kiss today with Tommy & Eric Singer in Ace & Peter's make-up. It's SO wrong. I love Kiss but I stick to the early stuff.

I grew up with Kiss, they are one of my favorit bands. I went to Mexico City concert i 1997 with original Kiss (Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter). Wow, wonderful! Originals always will be originals. I want to see Kiss again, Ace and Peter have to return. Soon, Kiss will be 40 years, it is a good moment to reunion again. Think about it.

@oberfour if you wanna talk about polished up, Alive! is the most polished album they have. about 75% of that album was redone in the studio. Now i love KISS, my favorite band ever. but the fact is that Alive is not as "live" as people think.
I have to say: Of couse KISS is still great with Thommy and Eric SInger, but it ain't just the same...that incredible magic, that was there when the four Originals were on stage, is gone...in my mind they should have taken off the make-up again after the Farewell Tour and pick up things they drop after the Revenge Album...that would have made much more sense to me than to end as their own Cover Thing...
Can someone please answer this question. What happen to Gene's voice, did he just decide to sing by screaming and make growling noises one day or is it just shot from being around for so long. Around 1988 it started changing and he did not sound at all like what he did on the 70's records and by the Reunion tour he did not sound anything like 70's Gene. What happend?

Look, I'm a partisan member of the Ace camp, but this whole Ace/Tommy debate simply boils down to science vs art. While Tommy is argueably better at the "science" of guitar playing, Ace has mastered the "art" of being a rock god. That is why Original Four shows have an intangible magic and the current overly-produced shows have a sterile feel.... meaning they're so polished it almost doesn't feel like rock and roll.
This was when Kiss was Kiss. Today they're just a shitty coverband. Without Ace and Peter there's no Kiss. Not only was Ace the coolest of the members, but he was also the most talented one and he made Kiss to the hottest band in the world!
I also FUCKING HATE how Tommy imitates Ace. I mean, why not come up with your own make-up and costume rather than trying to be someone you're not.. Not to mention that he fucking sucks at trying to look like Ace.

I love Ace to death but his playing during the reunion tours was awful. Embarrassing. We all know that he can play his ass off so I dont know what happened during those shows. I know that he was banned from drinking and drugs. It was in his contract with Gene and Paul but....I also know that he was sneaking in booze. I know somebody that got to party with him in Boston on this tour. I guess thats why he was replaced.
we are luck they are still playing. We know no one was is better than 70' Ace but Ace cant even do Ace. Im an Ace fan but Thommy does a good job to try and mimic him. So get over it.
Frankly, I don't care if Ace makes a mistake, everyone does, it's called a live show, and there is no other Ace, but Ace, period. Without Ace and Peter, there is no Kiss but a wanna-be kiss. Gene and Paul need to work things out with Ace and Peter and do one last US tour, then I'd take my boys to see them, or no Kiss for me.
@PatrickONB the only problem is that Gene is perfectly happy with Tommy Kissfan (yes the affectionatly call him that in the band) on guitar. Gene likes having his ass kissed and Tommy Weasled his way into the band. Hes not a bad guitar player but he markets himself as Ace, plays his solos etc. If they still wanted the spaceman then the shoulda kept the real deal. I would rather see Tommy doing his own thing instead of being an Ace wannabe

I loved the original band also and have been a KISS fan since they started, however, you got to move on. Eric and Tommy are much better musically. Someone mentioned style of play. I can tell you Tommy plays exactly like Ace, except a lot better. Fact is Ace, and especially Peter just didn't have the chops to play any longer. I've seen this a ton with every member. This current lineup is the best. I saw Ace in Omaha awhile back and he was bad. Sonic Boom rocks. KISS is STILL awesome!

I have to say: Of couse KISS is still great with Thommy and Eric SInger, but it ain't just the same...that incredible magic, that was there when the four Originals were on stage, is gone...in my mind they should have taken off the make-up again after the Farewell Tour and pick up things they drop after the Revenge Album...that would have made much more sense to me than to end as their own Cover Thing...

Around 1988 it started changing and he did not sound at all like what he did on the 70's records and by the Reunion tour he did not sound anything like 70's Gene. What happend?

Look, I'm a partisan member of the Ace camp, but this whole Ace/Tommy debate simply boils down to science vs art. While Tommy is argueably better at the "science" of guitar playing, Ace has mastered the "art" of being a rock god. That is why Original Four shows have an intangible magic and the current overly-produced shows have a sterile feel.... meaning they're so polished it almost doesn't feel like rock and roll.

This was when Kiss was Kiss. Today they're just a shitty coverband. Without Ace and Peter there's no Kiss. Not only was Ace the coolest of the members, but he was also the most talented one and he made Kiss to the hottest band in the world!
I also FUCKING HATE how Tommy imitates Ace. I mean, why not come up with your own make-up and costume rather than trying to be someone you're not.. Not to mention that he fucking sucks at trying to look like Ace.

I love Ace to death but his playing during the reunion tours was awful. Embarrassing. We all know that he can play his ass off so I dont know what happened during those shows. I know that he was banned from drinking and drugs. It was in his contract with Gene and Paul but....I also know that he was sneaking in booze. I know somebody that got to party with him in Boston on this tour. I guess thats why he was replaced.

Frankly, I don't care if Ace makes a mistake, everyone does, it's called a live show, and there is no other Ace, but Ace, period. Without Ace and Peter, there is no Kiss but a wanna-be kiss. (notice lower-case k) And argue?... What's to argue, I grew up on these guys, I didn't just start listening yesterday, so I feel I've a right to what I feel about them. Gene and Paul need to work things out with Ace and Peter and do one last US tour, then I'd take my boys to see them, or no Kiss for me.

@PatrickONB the only problem is that Gene is perfectly happy with Tommy Kissfan (yes the affectionatly call him that in the band) on guitar. Gene likes having his ass kissed and Tommy Weasled his way into the band. Hes not a bad guitar player but he markets himself as Ace, plays his solos etc. If they still wanted the spaceman then the shoulda kept the real deal. I would rather see Tommy doing his own thing instead of being an Ace wannabe

I loved the original band also and have been a KISS fan since they started, however, you got to move on. Eric and Tommy are much better musically. Someone mentioned style of play. I can tell you Tommy plays exactly like Ace, except a lot better. Fact is Ace, and especially Peter just didn't have the chops to play any longer. I've seen this a ton with every member. This current lineup is the best. I saw Ace in Omaha awhile back and he was bad. Sonic Boom rocks. KISS is STILL awesome!
