They use the EQ2B, and on older rigs, the PA300. Some companys will out in their own funds and buy other mechanical sirens for the rigs, but Qs I heard were outlawed in NewYork, because of noise or something...but yet Rescue 4 has one? IDK.
@rykember11 I'm from NY and I heard about something about outlawing the real q-sirens. Not sure what happened to that, but alot of rigs here still use q's. I just don't like the powercall sirens running with the q-sirens.
@rykember11 the real Q is illegal in NY, but some companies go out and buy their own... if the maintenance dept sees them when the truck goes in for maint... they remove em, so they are temp mounted
ya umm all new fdny trucks use q2bs and like in the bronx and brooklyn and queens and staten island they do use either something like the q or they do use the q and the older rigs use pa300
Usually there is a pedal on the officer's side, sometimes the drivers side or both that when pushed, the siren will start up and keep going until the pedal is let off. I hope that helps.
Either that, or its on the panel board with the rest of the siren controls, thats how it is on our Quint, electronic siren is on the panel on the officers side, and the mechanical Q control is controled by a toggle beside it, and like said below, by a pedal on the drivers left foot. It just depends on the apparatus and the designer.
if you read the rest of the comments, i clearly said that it was a picture and sound clip put together!

I was bored...Looking up sound effects on the internet and found the Q siren sounds. It was actually 2 sounds I had to stitch together. At 0:17 if you listen carefully, you can hear both sounds together.

Sometimes, especially with the Mack CF-611s the horn button doubled as the siren button on the driver's side.
BassmanII 2 years ago
yup and as soon as the light bar is switched on in our engine the horn switches to the siren control

Amazing!
It sounds without the rotor turning!
If you had any taste whatsoever, you would have allowed it to wind downaturally.
(My Federal Signal 2t22A air raid siren takes 2:38 to wind down to rotor stop.)
