  • Wow, that was really good! Well done! :)

  • Remember watching this at top screen. Great film, what editing software did you use?

  • @eh12220 Final Cut Pro.

  • Awesome film!! How did you get copy right for director's cuts?? did you just send an email saying you where a student? I downloaded some of their stuff which suits the film im making and i really wanna use it. thanks. By the way, terrific job!!!

  • @mystro112 Hi, you could definitely try the producers of the music to see what they say. Personally I ended up buying all the copyright permissions through APRA-AMCOS so I could use the music for a year.

  • ...woooooah~ im in yr 12 this year and wanted to get into top screens but, watching this made me think..... it's near impossible....=(=(=(

  • @Hunbeautilous Nothing is impossible.. Just think up a good idea!

  • This is amazing! Love your camera shots and the way you build suspense, was awesome. One of the best, for sure. Glad i watched this, seeing as i noticed a bunch of the other top screens films had used cameras with manual focus and stuff and i was thinking how am i going to make something that good? But i love that yours was so simple, and so very, very effective. Excellent work, i'm inspired!

  • @ridesthebus thank you, that is very kind

  • Hey I remember watching this, then you gave a talk to the audience about what it was like to star and film.

Not a bad film I must say.

  • dude.. shivers down the spine...

  • Amazing. The most effective thing is the silence. Absolutely no speaking. Wow. Dramatic. I have to admit that at the end when he sees the mystery man on camera, I actually had to look behind me to make sure that I was alone. Very, very well done.

  • amazing, may i ask why you don't do this anymore?

  • @LifeInATent Hopefully I will make another film soon, just need another good idea!

  • I really liked this :D

Did Scream 2 influence you at all?

  • @michaelvm92 I've never seen any of the Scream movies, so no. I probably should try and check them out though.

  • @anonymousbystander ahh OK, you should.

I won't ruin it, but there's a bit in Scream 2 where the killer shows footage of all the footage of their victims before they died (like they were watching them and filming them) and then it cuts to the character watching the video.

    It's like OMG you're gonna die. :O ... but yeah ...

  • just watched this in assembly today at xavier, awesome film.

  • @mezzadakiller Thanks mate! Great to hear

  • Very well done. Im hopefully going to enter my film in this year :)

  • This film is amazing. Great use of camera, well done. I'm doing year 12 media this year and i hope my film turns out as great as yours! lol

  • best of the 13. quick question the shot from inside the trunk of the car, was that inspired by tarintino's use of that shot?

  • @BrownUnicycle Thanks mate, glad you liked it.

The trunk shot wasn't inspired by Tarantino, I haven't actually seen a lot of his films, which one specifically? But it is a pretty common shot Ive seen in a few other things so maybe they copied him

  • @anonymousbystander it's in all haha. its one of his signature angles. except in inglorious basterds its replaced by a nazi having his forehead carved up p.o.v. another question sorry, who is your favourite director? it's just your so good just wanted to know your inspirations.

  • @BrownUnicycle Ahh cool, I loved Inglorious basterds, great film. I have a few favourite directors - Guy Ritchie (check out Revolver if you haven't seen it, stylistically is an amazing film), Darren Aronofsky, Bong Joon-Ho (really talented), Christopher Nolan, Michael Mann, and the Coen brothers to name a few haha

  • wow this is great, I just watched it by myself at home and I was genuinely scared haha!

that's pretty hard to pull off when you're on a student budget.

I'm doing year 12 media this year and you've set the bar extremely high man.

    Good work :)

  • Ummm hi again, =)

I was wondering what the name of the music in the opening was?

  • @julzBbY1 Jim Dooley - Red Mist

  • thanks =)

  • Hey bro, it's Mike Snow, the guy who made the short My Redemption that also got into Top Screen.

Bloody nice work dude, your film was my favorite out of the final 13. There were a few parts in it which remind me of the Saw movies(which I'm a massive fan of) , was that one of your inspirations?

    Mike

  • @smoness Thanks man! I also loved your film, thought it was really powerful.

I have actually never seen any of the Saw movies, I'm not much of a fan of that genre. Most of my inspiration came from Crank and Memento, which are two of my faves. Will have to try and rent out Saw at some point.

  • @anonymousbystander

    Glad you liked it mate.

Crank is a ripper of a film, you've probably watched the making of I assume, if not check that out, particularly the camera work section-mad stuff in there. Haven't seen all of Memento but have got it somewhere, will get around to checking it out one day.

If you rent out Saw you'll easily see how I was reminded of it. To me, the last 5 mins of your film have Saw written all over them. See you at ACMI discussion gig!

  • I might be biased, but your work is terrific!

  • Well Done!!!...Saw this at acmi for Top Screen...It's Brilliant =)

  • great film saw it in top film today was one of the best there.

im doing 3/4 media now, struggling for a solid idea..

    congrats

  • @basyo1 Much appreciated, there are some fantastic films in Top Screen this year, it's great to be apart of it.

  • Really good stuff for a VCE media film. Congrats on the 50 aswell. I'm in year 12 now and would love to make a film this good. However that's most unlikely.

Love the shot in the St Kilda junction tunnel. Every time I walk through there i think i'm going to get stabbed. haha.

  • @milner406 Thanks, glad you liked it. The junction is such a great location I just had to get it in there.

  • absoultely amazing.

what kind of camera did you use?

i want to make a film of equal visual quality but the cameras at my school are complete shite.

  • Thanks! I used a Sony standard definition 3 chip camera. Its not amazing, but it did the job.

  • as far as media films go mate this is brilliant. if you don't mind me asking, what was your study score?

    thanks for your help

  • Cheers, good luck with your film. My study score was 50.

  • nice work man!

well deserved. cheers man i'll need it haha

  • This is some phenomenal stuff mate.

  • Wow. Did you use copyrighted music for that? If you did, did you gain permission so you could enter the VCE Media movie comp?

  • Yeah if I get into Top Screen I will try and clear the copyright. This version is also slightly different and I added the track for the credits.

  • pretty awesome well done

  • this is fantastic, one of the best student films ive ever seen, your frame ups are just fantastic

  • Very nice!

  • that. was. funkin ridiculous!!!!

i'm so annoyed at how good that was, it makes me so excited for you as an artist and so pissed off at myself for making a silly, cheap comedy for my own project. that and freakin WMG takin my audio off, bitches.

but seriously man. if there's one hard thing to do; it's make a good, interesting, serious VCE movie. and you sire, pulled that off. with style

  • thats simply marvelous david. Tres bien!

  • absolutely fantastic
