fabulous performance. I remember coming across this particular performance 4 or 5 years ago on YT and I just keep coming back to it--lovely, thank you for sharing.
@PhillipPark90 Ravel wrote for the quartet again in combination with harp (soloist), flute, and clarinet called "Introduction et Allegro." It emphasizes the harp's virtuosity rather than the quartet, but if you were craving more of this sound, you could took to that piece.
I absolutely love this piece and my quartet really enjoyed performing it for Solo and Ensemble. It is a beautiful piece of music and I wish Ravel would have written more string quartets. One is just not enough.
I love the second violin lines. Its so beautiful!!! I love the chords Ravel uses. He's such a genius when it comes to to that. You can actually tell that he put allot of himself in this piece. >>> Amazing.

The camera angles of this version is so much better. You could feel the painstaking precision and the connection of playing off each other - one hurling sparks and the other catching and returning sprays of sunlight.

I'm astounded by the level of perfection in this live performance. the intonation is peerless possibly, made to serve the delicacy of their unified ear. top of the world qroup.
Their intonation is just the start. It goes beyond that, where their expressions and dynamics allow for the shift of focus from instrument to instrument. Top of the world group, I agree.
I chose to analyze this for my Form and Analysis class and I nearly tore my hair out trying to figure out these harmonies and harmonic progressions.

Very good, but there is not quite enough relaxation to balance the agitato, in my view. the second violinist is more expressive than the first.

I love this interpretation - but I'm not sure it's above the St. Petersburg Quartet's recording in my mind. Incredible playing.
